So I am doing my second ME:A playthrough and just did Jaal's 'Runs in the Family' quest. Met his mother, the family, went to his room and then he hit me with “You make my heart sing. I want us to be together.”
I am being a female Ryder and have never flirted with Jaal, only selected the friendship options when they come up. I did the same thing with my male Ryder and never had this come up. Any reason for why this could have happened? I am curious and also feel bad for unexpectedly having to turn the guy down.

The friendship options are actually flirt options and count towards the romance. I believe it's been tested that you can take one friendship option and two heart options, or two friendship options and one heart option and end up in a romance with him; basically as long as you flirt with him three times. Also, you still might be able to end up in a romance with him by taking nothing but the three friendship options but I can't remember.
As to why it didn't happen in your other games who knows? you might've made him angry with some of your decisions, or gave less than 3 flirts, or your game glitched. *shrugs*
Just remember from now on that if you don't want to romance Jaal don't take the friendship options. I don't know why he's the only romance that they made these icons for but it is what it is.

I went through the Jaal thread to find out and combined with the 3 flirts, the only two decisions that impact his romance is shooting/sparing Akksul and saving/abandoning the Angara at the Kett base on Voeld. Go against what Jaal says on both occasions and that will stop the romance, only go against him once and the romance will continue. Your game should only depend on those two occasions along with the flirts, as the AI decision doesn't change anything. |
