I'd been wondering how Anthem will essentially integrate single and multiplayer. Then it occurred that it might simply be a co-op process. You play the game, but you match-make with friends/randoms because the game is balanced to encourage and support that. A bit like Far Cry's 2-player co-op. www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-10-31-how-co-op-works-in-far-cry-5The key issue will be will each player have an instanced experience of their world, or will only the host's world be the prevailing one?

You mean FarCry 5 I think.
Too many numbers in title and 2 looks like 5 anyway.

I said for awhile that, for me, BioWare could benefit from a setup that was present in Guild Wars 1, basically the world is yours and yours alone an you can talk an hire npc to accompany you or invite friends an only place you see anyone is social areas, again, for me, its probably the best setup for BioWare an im hoping its the sort of direction they have took with Anthem, your a freelancer there nothing stopping "freelancer" being a organization your part of, you can rank up in, recruit other npc freelancers for missions, personal missions, relationships etc they can still do the typical BioWare game with this setup with very minimum intrusion but at same time build that shared online experience that i for one have wanted in my BioWare games.
I played farcry 4 an played large part of it with a friend when we could connect to each other which never always worked but when it did it, for me, took a fun game to a new level, i suppose it might be another form of co-op to look to, but the one thing wee didn't like that im sure ppl here will is if i joined my friend i could go through 2/3 of the map completing everything with him then go back to my map and nothings been done an im still at start, that can be a downer but i can see the plus for it aswell ie your own choices

Meh. I'm thinking ME3MP is the setup for Anthem, not FC5. Once you get something going, it's just a step further (although that step can feel like a marathon) to get to where you wanna go.
In other words, once they've mastered co-op PvP, it's just a step further to design massive world with co-op PvP.

If Anthem is ME3MP awesome, just on an open world scale, it could be great stuff. I have some faith left in Casey Hudson and the rest of the old garde.

I wish I knew. In FarCry 3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 5 (downloading now) the co-op feature is used to call in a friend to help with you take an outpost, defend mission, etc. It has an online/offline feature. Both saves are the same. All I know about Anthem is that the game looks kind of the same. You start off solo and then you can seamlessly call in friends because you're always online. I like this if that's how it's implemented. If it's a solo player game with some multi-party challenges... I'm all in. Micro transactions better be kept to cosmetic items, if any. You know what would boost BioWare's profile: None of that stuff. Provide a suite of tools to customize the HUD, the Javelins, etc. that doesn't have a price tag attached. It can also go subscription based like WoW, but like an addition $4.99 to the $5.99 Origin access. Then they could add DLC, arena stuff, etc. Once I lock in on a monthly subscription, I usually forget about it. And as long as *something* keeps coming... new skins, new challenges, new co-op missions, a 15-minute solo player quest to upgrade some mechanic like a heat sink or whatever. Just some ideas.

Hm...
I'm leaning towards the host world prevailing for two reasons. (1) Simpler to code and track. (2) Bio has no time to muck around with untried ideas. The studio needs to focus on their strengths and game objectives such as combat balance, drop rates, gear rarity percentages, player progression..connection speed and game lag, tweaking the match making algorithm, testing possible Region Locks, launching a bug free game as possible, include enough content and re-playability feature(s)... etc.

I just assumed that the default mode of play was that there would be no other players on the map except you, and that you could invite other people to your instance, or make your instance open for others to join willingly. It's quite a peculiar predicament to think about, as having it be barren of others players could make the world -in its entirety- feel lifeless; sorta how The Division is.

Probably closer to the division or Monster Hunter World
the world is yours but people can pop in and join you.
Or, if there are companion characters, then ghost recon wildlands-ish. But obviously we will know nothing about the game till e3 so...
The division being an urban setting is naturally going to be dead and lifeless. Take the people out of the cities and what do you have? empty pointless urban sprawl.
