Hi all! So my favorite is a sniper, and in ME2 and ME3 I've become rather proficient at it, with headshots left and right... Gotten pretty good at it in ME1 too, though less for obvious reasons.
My question is how does the sniper work with console controls? Can you even aim comfortably?

Yes. I had no problem. I got headshots easily. The controls for the ps3 work fine. Just aim and push the button. I rarely used a sniper rifle in ME2/3, but several times in ME1.

I have absolutely no difficulties with it on the Xbox 360... and I like using a sniper rifle in several different games. With most games, console players can usually make some adjustments to their control sensitivities and enable target assist features to get things just how they like it.
In Mass Effect 1, if the class you are playing can train in the SR, the weapon is scoped when you depress the left trigger. Shooting it can be done with or without using the scope by depressing the right trigger. Aiming is controlled by the sticks. As you upgrade, the amount of sway is diminished. If the class you are playing cannot train the SR, then the weapon will not scope, but you can still fire it.

There are perks and flaws...
Aiming sniper rifles on the Console is partly assisted with the "Aim Assist" feature which snaps your view onto the neck of your target when the overlay of the game switches to the scope. Sometimes the scope also partly moves with your target or slows down when you take aim at a new one.
The flaw however is that with rifles performing multiple shots it can be a slight annoyance when the enemy is trying to dodge and you have to adjust and compensate for your sway and stick.
I personally prefer aiming on the PC. I trust my hand and my brain enough to calculate the presence and head of an enemy and my mouse to be precise enough for me to take down 3 targets with 3 rounds in under 0.7 seconds.

It's fine, apart from when you try to shoot a Ravager, and you hit a Swarmer instead because the game decides that you need help.

First person shooting... on a console...? Haha, no honestly I have no idea. PC Master Race over here. But aiming on consoles for the few games I've had to do that for has been really annoying and awkward.

I'm fine. I even use the controller on my PC version.. since that's what I first played ME on (360).
I kind of wonder though... maybe I'm good with it because I'm left handed? I don't know. I was thinking about this the other day.. why people have such problem aiming on gamepads. I'm good with either mouse or controller, but maybe since my "strong" hand (the left) is set up to aim with the left stick, it feels OK.

Game controllers typically aren't as responsive as controllers tend to be. That being said Infiltrator is favorite SP class to use. Never had a problem with head shots. ME3 particularly with right mod will cause time to slow down allowing easy head shots. A bit harder in MP mode simply because of shield gate bull.

Sniping in SP as a Soldier or Infy is EZ mode because of the time dilation garbage. MP it is a bit more rewarding, but still easy given that there are a multitude of powers that can strip shields and stagger mooks for easy headshots (Sabotage, Energy Drain, Overload etc.), not to mention that headshots aren't even all that necessary with the God tier rifles (Widow, Javelin, Black Widow) provided Phasic ammo is used.
In my experience, the console's auto aim can be abused to quickscope in this game quite easily, at least on PS3. Add that to the lethargic AI and lack of bullet physics on most weapons (Kishock Harpoon gun being a notable exception), and it's easier than most shooters I've played.

It's still easy in ME1, even without the dilation. At least once you train some into it. But yeah, it's EZ mode otherwise... but I won't complain. Soldier lost their best advantage with the weight system in 3. I'll take what I can get.

Ok. Trying ME1 with a controller. It takes some getting used to, but I hope I'll catch on... Though honestly, I keep wondering why I'm even doing it I got a steam controller, it's great for Dragon Age games, but not as much for precision shots in ME.
