First, take a look at my
Gold/Platinum Solo Telemetry Analysis post. Check out the solos that feature either a Gold Wave 6 Hack/Upload. I’ve done it 8 times with the
Human Adept,
Soldier,
Vanguard,
Guardian,
Sentinel,
Juggernaut,
Asari Sentinel, and
Turian Soldier.
You have 4 minutes to complete a Hack or Upload. It takes about 2 minutes to complete the Hack and 45 seconds for each Upload, provided no enemies ever join you in the circle. Obviously, positioning of the circles on the map is incredibly important to your success or failure.
Gold StrategyOn Gold, I try to take out the boss enemies as quickly as possible. Against Outlaws, you have to dispatch two Berserkers and a lone Hydra. They won’t respawn. Facing the Remnant, you have two Destroyers to neutralize; again, they won’t respawn. As for the Kett, there’s a single Ascendant and Fiend on the map initially, but they will respawn once. Often times, if you expend all your Cobras against the first duo, you may not have much left to take out the second pair.
After you take out the bosses, you’ll focus on keeping the mooks and dogs out of the circle. Having crowd control powers like Lifting Shockwave, Annihilation Field, Throw, Pull, Flak Cannon is obviously very useful. Sometimes I deliberately do not kill enemies and leave them neutralized via my crowd control powers. They won’t respawn and when they recover from being stunned, I can either crowd control them again or kill them. This buys me a few extra seconds which could be the difference between a failed mission and a successful one.
Sometimes, I do leave the Hack or Upload circle if I get overrun to kite enemies, only to return as quickly as possible. I did this with my Human Vanguard solo on Sandstorm.
My Turian Soldier Gold Solo, I tanked both a Hack and an Upload with the Piranha Siphon. That was a fun mission.
Platinum StrategyThere’s not much strategy with Platinum Wave 6 Hacks and Uploads, because they are nearly impossible when soloing. Here’s what you will face for each faction. All enemies will respawn (there might be a limit, but I’ve never seen it).
Kett3 Berserkers / Behemoth / Ascendant / 2 Sharpshooters / 3 Anointed / Destined
Those Berserkers, Behemoth, and Ascendant will rush the circle. Sometimes the Anointed join in the fun. If you’re soloing and you’re not the Turian Havoc Trooper with stunning Flak Cannon and a weapon like the Rozerad, you will fail. See
Pota Pota’s successful Wave 6 Hack (though I think he ran out of consumables at the end and didn’t complete the match) here.
The problem is that you can’t stun the enemies long enough for them to rush you and stop progress on the hack/upload.
RemnantObservers / Berserkers / Blaze Hydra / Progenitor / Destroyer
Berserkers will rush you, as will the Blaze Hydra, Progenitor, and Destroyer. Good luck stopping those enemies in a solo. You only hope here is if the Progenitor and the Blaze Hydra get stuck on spawn or be occupied by a pet like the Remnant VI. There’s a video of a
Human Artificer almost doing two Uploads (Wave 2 and 4) by herself on Platinum (people joined near the end of the second Upload) on YouTube. She benefited from the bosses getting stuck on Derelict.
OutlawsAdhis / Anointed / Blaze Hydra / Ascendant / Hydra
Basically every enemy here is going to be joining you in that circle. I’m deeming this impossible for most non-stealth characters.
Wave 2 and Wave 4 Hacks and UploadsOn my YouTube channel, I have a couple of videos where I successfully completed a Wave 2 Hack or Upload (Human Juggernaut on
Sandstorm and
Paradox). I also have some Wave 2 Hacks with the
Batarian Vanguard,
Human Kineticist, and
Krogan Gladiator (the rest of the missions failed).
I have never been able to do a Wave 4 Hack/Upload with a non-stealth character due to the respawning Fiends and Ascendants. I did do one with the
Angara Avenger, and it required a lot of cloaking out of the circle and jumping back in (on Vertigo against Outlaws).
Hope this information helps!
