I honestly think that two movies in, there's still a chance for Carol Danvers to improve and become a better character. I'm keeping myself cautiously optimistic, but not having high expectations since Carol's not my favorite character. I would actually be more scrutinizing over whatever casting/movie decisions they make for a potential Kamala Khan project though.
Anyway, maybe we should try to shift the conversation somewhere else. Um...oh yeah! August 24th is D23, and the schedule dictates that there will be a bunch of movie announcements from Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel. Perhaps we'll finally get that Phase 4 line-up that's been illusively hidden from us?

I'm pretty sure that somewhere down the line, a director will come in and direct a much better Carol Danvers film, one that actually makes Carol Danvers a likeable character. I wouldn't be surprised if after working with DC for a while and finishing her contract, Patty Jenkins would be a good fit to direct a Captain Marvel movie considering her success with Wonder Woman, a movie that equally featured a powerful female superhero icon that not only was in a successful movie, but also didn't feel like an SJW film. Honestly, I never really saw Carol Danvers the character as "Manvers" as you referred to her, because she never really did anything overtly feminist anywhere in either film. She was definitely really super powerful, but her gender never really came up anywhere. (I mean, I get there's the whole thing with Brie Larson, but that's not really important.) In fact, serious question here: How come Wonder Woman is often regarded as a great film, yet Captain Marvel is just plagued with all this SJW-related hatred? In my opinion, I think it's because Wonder Woman was better handled as a character honestly compared to Carol Danvers. It's a movie about a super-powerful female superhero who ends up in a foreign land and wants to use her powers for good, but then learns that the world is not as black and white as she once believed. But the main difference between Diana Prince and Carol Danvers is that we actually got to spend time to know Diana's wishes, desires, and values before committing to the foreign world, and not with Carol Danvers. Carol starts with no memories of her past life, and her only reasoning for investigating her past is more based on curiosity at the weird flashbacks she gets when held captive. Because we got to know Diana better, we are more engaged with her story and want to see her succeed, whereas in Carol Danver's case, we're as confused as she is and don't have any reason to care and thus make the whole "female-empoyerment" idea more noticeable and annoying. So if I were to travel back in time and rewrite the script for Captain Danvers, I would probably start it with Carol constantly having these flashbacks to her life, maybe starting with the test-flight that ultimately led to her powers. Carol is understandably confused about these and constantly questions her superiors about them, though the answers they give are vague. I would establish her as a person who isn't comfortable with being super powerful, as she would constantly end up accidentally destroying things or just can't activate her powers when she needs to. We would then get that whole scene of Danvers on a mission, except she's relegated to support instead of front-lines fighter, and she would eventually get captured and interrogated by the Skrulls, leading to her eventually crashing to Earth and meeting with Fury. Her reaction to being on Earth is more fearful, and she is in a completely foreign land with a completely foreign system, instead of the unreleastically, sometimes too meanly confident person that she was in this version. Eventually her mission does take her to the Skrulls, but I would still have them be the bad guys who basically want revenge against the Nova Corp for exterminating an entire colony or sometime (the person in charge would be Carol's commanding officer) and at the same time, we could keep the twist that the commanding officer is the one responsible for Carol's powers, probably as an attempt to gain a powerful weapon that he can eventually use to take over the Kree Empire. In this way, we end up Carol fighting two enemies that are both neither right nor wrong, and because Carol starts the film more uncertain and scared of her powers, it's slightly more cathartic when she finally does unleash and control her powers, similar to when Diana Prince managed to figure out her true powers and use them for good. This version wouldn't be that much changed from the official version, but it treats Carol more as a normal person rather than an unrealistically over confident hero-type and is honestly the direction they should have gone.

You might as well be waiting for a cow to jump over the moon then (because those SJW's and feminazis will bitch and moan unstop if that ever happened). Also, Manvers is used by many because she looks a man with that haircut.

Also, Manvers is used by many because she looks a man with that haircut. Okay, I'm getting very sexist vibes from you right here. First of all, when you say SJW's and feminazis, you're implying that EVERY person who wishes to have strong female or minority characters in movies (like I do) is a whiny pretentious person known for generally making ranting claims online that are the unfortunately the loud minority, but even the REAL feminists and SJW's hate them! Second, giving Carol a low-nickname like Manvers just because she has a haircut that isn't the long, flowing, "girl" style is just plain wrong. I'm sorry, but this will be the final time I reply to you and I wish people like you who look only to insult without fully thinking through on your opinions would stop being so pretentious and whiney! It's people like you that are the reason "SJW's and the feminazis" exist and fill the internet with hateful, irrational thoughts and drown out the more reasonable opinion makers seeking to make good changes to the way we tell stories and view media.

I liked Carol Danvers/Cap Marvel in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. I can't say the same for the live action incarnation.

I liked her better in Endgame than her own movie (minus the cringe scene with Thor). Yeah, I saw that (not in full, just the embarrassing part). I still think it was asinine how YouTube was littered with videos saying that the movie sucks before anyone could actually watch it, or Marvel Studios is "dead" (R.I.P. MARVEL!!) because one actresses's said lame things to the media. That content gets views, though. But she's, uhh, not doing herself any favors, either....

You know, one thing I dislike about the MCU is that ever since the Avengers (2012), they keep giving Black Widow an American accent for every other visual media. Natasha Romanov is supposed to be a Russian spy, something people tend to forget when they see Black Widow nowadays.

Yeah but she was also supposed to have been born during the siege of Stalingrad in WWII. Well, we don't know that much about Black Widow's past in the MCU, so they might have some interesting comic-accurate surprises for us in the future. (I'm still convinced they'll bring Black Widow back from the dead) Still, Black Widow being Russian is a huge part of her character, and I feel that since the movies are where most people are getting their knowledge of Black Widow, they're missing that crucial tidbit. (I know it's mentioned, but only briefly and easy to miss).

I don't really mind BW's accent; after all, as a spy, she probably changed her identities, appearance and manners quite a lot of times and might picked up several accents to blend in different places and situations. It's just my headcanon and maybe a little cynical of me to think so, but having an American accent while working with mostly American heroes might be her way to get their trust more easily. What kinda bothers me is Scarlet Witch's accent. I know you can lose your original accent over time, but the difference between AoU and CW (which is set, what, few months after Sokovia?) was quite visible hearable audible (ha! Thanks internet, I've learned a new English word!).

Anyway, I guess my concern wasn't that the MCU made Black Widow with an American accent. It's that EVERY new visual media that has Black Widow in it gives her the American accent (Avengers Assemble and even the upcoming video game)!

If they found it easier to drop the fake accent from the fictitious country, I'm all for it. Edit: that's actually a ding I have against Black Panther.

Not bad at all, very good. Critics are idiots, never gave two shits what they thought. Don't know about this so called drop. Went to see it again this weekend, at least my theater was decently filled.

I feel it was doomed from the start. Nobody cared about this version of Jean Grey from Apocalypse, and it was being directed by the X-Men Last Stand writer, who already bungled the Dark Pheonix storyline in that movie. And despite him claiming he learnt his mistakes from that movie, apparently he makes the same mistakes all over again in this one. Good god, why can't they get Dark Pheonix right? I'm now looking forward to seeing Marvel Studios do X-Men justice this time! Just hold off on Dark Pheonix until much later in the series please?
