Okay, NOT counting Mankind, Dogs, Cats, Rats, Apes or any of the obvious options...
Who is the smartest animal on Earth?

Most Intelligent Beast? Probably the one from the X-Men. (Also Nick Hoult's Beast over Kelsey Grammer's, since he's actually shown doing science)

Most Intelligent Beast? Probably the one from the X-Men. (Also Nick Hoult's Beast over Kelsey Grammer's, since he's actually shown doing science) I prefer Grammer Jen Lawrence's "acting" ruined the X-men prequels for me... I prefer Grammer's Beast as well. (Hoult only wins in the "intelligence" department because Grammer never did any science that I can recall?)
I hated Mystique's portrayal in the prequels as well. Rather than a beautiful, deadly and complex character... we got a character stuck in a constant face-heel revolving door, who's identity issues lead her to conform her personality/beliefs to whatever guy currently is validating her that day, and in doing so, taking a great character from the comics and making her nothing more than Xavier/Beast/Magneto's side-b*tch in First Class.
Then again, I suppose her attempted seduction of Wolverine in X2 (both as Jean and Rogue) is consistent in hindsight, both in how screwed up that is and that she's only attracted to him because he nearly killed her. And I guess she does also flip sides in X3, albeit only to get revenge on Magneto for abandoning her after she got cured (by taking the bullet meant for him).
But still, Romijin's Mystique came across as a deadly predator, whereas Lawrence's comes across as decidedly petulant.

For those wondering, I was the one who voted for the pot-bellied pig. Because they are the only species that's achieved their life-goals. They're as happy as... well, y'know.

Elephants/Dolphins are about on par i'd say, but their brains are developed to better suit their respective environments so its difficult to compare. Elephants have far better memories whereas Dolphins have better coordination.

I gotta give it to the crows. They can make tools and even understand street signals as well as the lines in the road. I've seen crows serve as lookouts for roadkill meals, taking turns and calling out cars to alert the ones that were eating.

Crows. They are smart little bastards.
- they crack nuts by tossing them into streets and waiting for cars to run over them - they understand "obstacle courses" to food where they have to use tool A to get tool B, tool B to get tool C, and tool C to get the food reward - they know that sheep often birth twins, and will kill the firstborn while the mother is busy with the second (a murder of crows indeed)

I once saw an experiment on TV where orangutans ( or probably chimpanzees?) solved a box puzzle faster than kindergarden children. I thought that was pretty amazing.
I read that killer whales are among the smartest animals on Earth because of the way they hunt and even that if one species ever develops to become a threat to human superiority it's them. Not sure if they were serious but I read a whole essay about how disturbingly smart they are.

Well if the stoned ape theory has taught me anything its that we only have to worry about the species that can get its hands on some serious drugs ie. shrooms. Not going to find much of that in the ocean, it's those sneaky elephants i'm worried about
