As the question suggests, what do you find your approach is to a combat situation? This isn't a question of biotics or tech or what-have-you, but more of what you do the most in a fight; reload or cooldown?

This is really dependent on the game. ME1: Use power(s) > shoot with guns ME2: alternate between powers and guns. ME3: (a) Use powers, or ( Use power (A-Rush or Cloak), shoot with guns, or (c) alternate between charge and shoot

I play engineer so...
bypassing ME1 in which I play soldier,
I shoot, shoot, shoot and then randomly remember I have useful powers and then overload someone and then...
shoot, shoot, shoot til their dead. haha

"This isn't about strategy or tactics..." My main engineer is using a pretty even split, using slightly more weapons in ME2 and slightly more powers in ME3. Tough for some reason my dice seemed to favour gun heavy builds for the last 4 or so trilogy playthroughs.I still have to try a melee centric build in ME3, already did so in MEA.

Really depends on the class I play. With an adept, it's powers all the way. With most other classes it's intermittent. My favorite class is infiltrator mostly because it has the best interaction between powers and guns IMO. Cloak + shoot, use incinerate to explode combos, energy drain (bonus power) for healing and against shields and synthetics or the occasional hacking of the robots. Great and fun combination IMO. Though I don't use the hacking too much because it annoys me when everyone else is already dealt with but you have that one hacked geth still standing around, looking dumb.

I'm all for fast cooldowns and lots of crazy biotic powers.

Adept here. It's all about powers.
ME1: powers as much as possible, sometimes need to shoot at enemies while they're floating in my Lift or Singularity.
ME2: unfortunately I have to use guns more in this game.
ME3: I barely use my gun at all.

I usually start with powers and finish 'em off with guns. Or a punch to the face when Vanguarding.

My canon is a Vanguard, followed by Soldier. I sort of feel like a Vanguard is a super-charged Soldier. Slam into things and then shoot whatever's still standing. Biotic Charge is the power I use most and I think guns complement in nicely.

If I'm not playing a biotic then guns, guns and more guns with powers when useful.
If I'm playing as a biotic then powers, power and more powers with guns when needed.

Powers all the way...
How I finished ME1; Spam dem powers, only shoot when there are no powers left
How I finished ME2 on insanity; Squad mate overload/incinerate Shepard singularity Squad mate/shepard warp
How I finished ME3 on Insanity;
Squad mate overload/incinerate Squad mate warp Shepard throw/shockwave/another detonator
Or some sort of variant depending on enemies.

Consumables are hoarded like crazy. Everything else is prioritized by application. In ME1, that meant non stop shooting if possible since powers would take too long to cooldown. ME2 was...iffy depending on class. Bullets were a precious resource even with regenerating clips so powers were spammed a lot to avoid wasting a shot. ME3 broke the rules with cooldowns reaching absurd levels, which helped keep a crazy fast pace. Bullets were still a precious resource for stronger, more stubborn enemies and certain weapons made target practice all the sweeter. Despite not having any issues using grenades, I find myself loathing any dependency on something that's so limited in quantity.
