But they are selling it at a Triple A price, considering the amount people have to pay to get the game and the Peter Molyneux level of promises the company made the players should at least get a playable experience. Right now the developer seems to be back peddling on a number of promised features (that many people purchased the game to specifically use) and the features are absent from the game but the developer is just dismissing the questions with non answers (multi player aspect right now) They never promised multiplayer. They said multiplayer was possible, but the shear size of the game made it improbable. Why do people not understand this? I dunno if this is a server issue on their side or if they just never expected anyone to actually meet, but it is obvious that there was some straight up miscommunication surrounding the multiplayer features of this game, which sucks when people are spending almost a hundred dollars on something that isn't what it promised to be - in the multiplayer aspect, and in other things - (dead planets, space whales, things getting more bizarre as you get closer to the center, etc.) I actually do like this game as a kind of experimental tech demo. I think it's a fun toy, and I'm glad that lots of people are enjoying it. My only issue is with the devs for allowing hype to go unchecked about things they knew wouldn't be represented in the game and making false promises about features that were never included. I also don't think this game should have released for 60, but I bought it anyway, so...

For the MP thing, Murray did actually say that the two players who found each other should have been able to see each other and that server issues was the reason they didn't.
Though I suppose everything else is a non issue for me right now anyway, since I'm not buying it as long as the PC port is as bad as it is.

I would honestly like to believe that Sean is telling the truth, but there's a part of me that thinks the multiplayer just hasn't been implemented yet because it still needs work, and they figured no one would notice because no one would meet in the time it took to be patched in.

I don't think Sean is lying. He's British! British don't lie. No, but seriously, I don't think he's lying. I think that the game is just too huge that problems like this are going to be difficult to sort out. Remember, there are only 13 people working on this game. 13 people! They aren't a big studio like BioWare, Infinity Ward, Gearbox Software. Small things will have slipped through the cracks that would create big problems, and it's going to be difficult for such a small team to find and sort out where these issues are coming from. - And yes, Sean could have helped stem the tide of ludicrous expectations pre-launch. I think the reason why he didn't is the same reason why they were tearing down No Man's Sky videos on Youtube pre-launch. They didn't want people spoiling the game, and that includes themselves.

I know I'm being kind of negative about it, and I hope you're right. They're definitely taking steps in the right direction - they just hired a QA team bigger than their entire team to bug fix. I'm definitely letting my disappointment with the game color my opinions about the devs, and that's not fair to them. But at the same time, releasing this game with a AAA price point when you've only got a small indie team and many bugs/other issues on launch isn't fair to consumers. I think I'd be a lot less upset if they'd released the game for $30 right outta the gate. There's a difference between not spoiling what's in the game and making sure that people's expectations match with reality, though. Obviously nobody can stop the hype once it starts, but he should have been a little more upfront about some things.

It also a rather vague statement from a technical standpoint. Saying that could either mean "servers were overloaded so it was temporarily not working" kind of server issues, or "the code is broken so it'll never work till we fix it" server issues. The second one will look the same as if they had never implemented it.

I like the game minus the bugs/technical issues. I don't like that I paid $60 for it. Honestly it is a $30 game right now content wise. I'm hoping it ends up like CIV V was for me. I played vanilla CIV V maybe 12 hours before I couldn't stand it anymore, and now 4-5 years later with Brave New World and all the addons its one of my favorite games of all time with a ton of hours spent on it.

They've already said they're going to add some kind of base-building feature in a patch, as well as keep exploring new content ideas to add to the game. Right now I've put maybe 15-20 hours into it, and I think that's enough for me until more stuff gets added. When there's more to do overall I think it'll be a much better experience. I just hope they release a lot of this stuff for free. I'm totally cool with paid DLC somewhere down the line, but for the moment they need to focus on improving the core gameplay.

No Man's Sky is incredibly ambitious for a tiny dev team. I applaud what they were able to accomplish, and gladly paid full price for my game. I admire then for trying new things and putting something out there besides Call of Duty 9.

I got No Man's Sky on GOG. Played for an hour this morning, and was enjoying it until the graphics started glitching. So I exited, and went back in, lo and behold, none of my checkpoints saved. Tried and again, got to a checkpoint, and exited and went back in, and again, no saves so had to completely restart. Turns out you have to run the game from GOG Galaxy for the save system to work.
It's interesting otherwise in a tedious kind of way.

How far does the procedural generation go in this thing?

How far does the procedural generation go in this thing? Well, there are something like 18 quintillion planets, but I imagine even the most dedicated player won't ever see more than ~1000 of them. In my experience with the game, some planets will be more mountainous than others, some will have giant oceans, some will have more grass and trees. But as far as the assets are concerned, it's a lot of color-swapping. One planet might have red dirt and an orange sky, the next will be green with a purple sky - lots of that kinda stuff. Every planet has buildings and stuff on it, and they're all more or less the same, especially as far as what they have inside them. Space stations look different on the outside, but again, are more or less identical inside. There are other structures in space besides these, but that's spoiler territory. I think they did the best job with the animals, honestly. It's obvious that a lot of the limbs have been used multiple times, but you end up with some really cool/weird stuff. Though if I never see another antelope-like creature, I'd be okay with that. The devs have said that things get weirder looking and more sci-fi as you get closer to the center of the galaxy, but I haven't found that to be the case at all. But with the crazy level of chance for different player experiences, ymmv.

For anybody wondering what the "end game" reveal at the center of the galaxy is: You start over (keeping your upgrades) with a broken ship on a planet at the edge of a new galaxy. Lolwat... Everything I've seen on streams just makes it seem like the planet exploration of Mass Effect 1, which was the most boring thing ever for me. It doesn't like one iota more appealing here.

Never.
Never ever.
NEVER. Take a Gravatino ball on a planet that says "hostile sentinels" on it.
I escaped to space... the sentinels will chase you out to space. They have their own starships.
'Nuff said.

Anyone figure out how to get back waypoints if they disappear while on a planet? I lost a bunch of mine when I flew too far afield to check out some ruins. I think the procedurally generated terrain may only exist while you're on a certain chunk. It's too bad. I kind of liked that port station I'd found.

Grrrr....... scanned 3 planets of animals and it won't let me upload the 3rd one for the trophy. I got so mad that I turned it off and played Overwatch instead.
Man, some of these glitches....

Steam refunds are working even if you have over 2 hours of playtime. I refunded with 22 hours of playtime and got my 59.99 refunded to my Visa. I'll probably pick it up again after some major content updates and/or it goes on sale during the winter or next summer.

Only way I would pick up this game is used at $20. Anymore is too much for what content NMS has imo.

I was on Twitch streaming of another game, there was discussion on NMS and I've to say 99.9 percent of it was negative towards it. I watched AJ's review of it and saw the spoiler for when you get to the centre of the galaxy. I was at the results of a player who posted his findings of 10 galaxies. He's moving to the 11th. Maybe it'll be different after the devs did a ton of patches but $60 (I'll have to pay more if I buy it, it's not 60 for me) for what I see on Twitch. It's not worth it. I'm surprised they had the gumption to put that price up, knowing how much they had put into the game.
