I was going to pre-order it despite the high price. Then it was leaked and that put me off pre-ordering. I still had plans to buy it after that but the more I watched it, the less fun it seemed with the same things all the time.
Plus the Atlas story is a let down as is flying to the Center of the Galaxy.

I've searched for a used copy and found one at ... 52 euros yeah, sure... no thank you. I'll wait a bit longer especially after the seller told me his PS4 crashed 3 times.... it seems it's part of the glitches they're trying to patch. Someone had the same trouble here ?

My ps4 crashes often with this game. Usually when I'm warping, or if I've been on a long journey with my pockets full of expensive mining materials, and I'm just about to get into my ship. Definitely wait, Scarlett. I really don't mind paying $60 to support a revolutionary idea from a developer, but I kind of wish Sony had their head screwed on enough to help them get a large-scale QA team together BEFORE launch....

Heh that video gets me everytime. I've searched for a used copy and found one at ... 52 euros yeah, sure... no thank you. Procedural generation is fine and all, but it needs hand made stuff to back it up. It's not a new and revolutionary tech either.

Played it for a couple hours yesterday. I think it may have reminded me of Myst more than anything else.
I'm not a big fan of games that purposely obscure their own premise, unless I'm playing a character with amnesia or something like that. Exploring the two planets I've been on was fun, but I wish I understood who my character is supposed to be and how much I know about where I am and why. In addition to the sentinels, there are some larger ships flying overhead that would seem like they're probably piloted by other intelligent beings. Should I know who they are, and if so, can I talk to them and are they friendly? Is there any kind of planetary or galactic civilization, or does this "Euclid Galaxy" consist mostly of solitary travelers wandering around and exploring?
I'd found what seemed to be a radio signal from an intelligent life form when I signed off yesterday, so I guess I'll go back and see if I can find who's sending it and if I can talk to them.

Super wide and super shallow is pretty much the antithesis of what I want in my games, so I stayed the hell away from No Man's Sky.
And I don't entirely blame the developers or publishers for its faceplant. Gamers had ridiculous expectations for it, and they should have known better. Which makes me frown at Steam/Sony offering extended refunds.

Question: Do I have to get back to where I first started the game and saw the red Atlas sphere to get an "Atlas Pass," or are they available elsewhere?
The game is fun so far, but I hope this whole Korvax/Atlas thread amounts to something more than disconnected pieces of sci-fi mysticism, which is all I've obtained from the monoliths and other artifacts. Other than that, I'm mostly just wandering around cataloging animals and collecting resources. Well, and I got into a fight with space pirates or something, but I wasn't sure what they were after or why - I flew towards a distress signal and they just turned up and started shooting at me.

Well in the case of No Man's Sky the developers, especially Sean Murray, said a lot of things and not just in a way that made people have unrealistic expectations of the game. One example is he objectively confirmed without a doubt that while it would be very rare to see another player, it was actually possible. However with the game out, we now know that's not true. I think there was plenty of times were they were ambiguous about details and it led to players getting very imaginative about what that meant, but there were also plenty of times where what they said was flat out false information about what we ended up getting in the final product.

I'd buy drinks for the person that actually posts the video on Sean Murray's twitter page. LOL Edit: Make sure it's the game developer Sean Murray, not the actor from NCIS.

I saw Sean Murray on numerous interviews before the release of the game and he always rubbed me the wrong way. Like a snake oil salesman or a mega-church preacher. I'm certainly not letting him off the hook here! I imagine that he probably thought he wasn't lying when he said they intended for players to be able to meet each other...but they could never make it work. My point is that you should take everything with a grain of salt and at least apply logic to it. With resources being limited -- which they certainly were in this case -- going wide with you game will make its depth suffer. Alternatively, going narrow with a game will allow you incredible depth using the same resources. Obviously there are other factors; they are constantly developing tools to help devs speed up the process. But still, the numbers never added up for No Man's Sky to be an immersive experience.

I actually do find it somewhat immersive. I just find it kind of shapeless so far. For starters, who am I even supposed to be? Am I a human who ended up in this Euclid Galaxy somehow? If not, am I from one of the established species (Korvax, Vy'keen, or whatever)? Do I know how I ended up there? Is there any sort of high-density galactic civilization anywhere, or do all these aliens live in isolated planetary structures and space stations? At first I thought perhaps this was a galaxy where most organic life had died out, leaving behind only synthetics in the form of the Korvax, but the Vy'keen seem to be organic.

I've actually put this game down for now. It seems very promising in its current state, but thats the extent of it, promising. Please don't take that as a negative rating. We have a solid base right now. But it needs more fleshing out, as right now the NPC's seem to be very on rails. And the exploration is very repetitive.
I feel like the NPC's need to do more, and have more impact on the universe as a whole. And we need to have the ability to affect the universe in some way. Also interacting and lading on capital ships is something the game really could use. That and factions, worlds with cities on them, space battles, and maybe multiplayer (though I could take over leave multiplayer).
I admit to pre-ordering the game, a day before it was released. And...I over payed. If/when they really flesh out the game, then I think it'll be worth 60 bucks. but right now, I don't think its worth the asking price. Closer to 30 I'd say, maybe 40. But no more.

Yeah, I had hoped that we'd actually find planetary civilizations instead of isolated outposts. (I take it that doesn't ever actually happen? I've only been to a few different systems so far.) The Atlas plotline is interesting, but it's not clear to me where it's going, if anywhere. If the devs don't eventually add more interactive content, maybe they'll open it up to more modding and/or players can get together to form their own factions and storylines. I know some people do that with DayZ, for example.

I have been there since the first Trailers.
I had big dreams of finding a planet very similar to Rannoch and naming it Rannoch, creating my own fleet, establishing colonies... And what was the final product ?
Well, I boot up the game and there is not even a main menu, I can't change any of the settings or set my starting universe details... I walk around with huge FPS drops on a machine built to handle Battlefield 4 as smooth as Crysis and Fallout 4... It takes a long time to figure out how to even play this game since there is no real tutorial besides hints in the corner of your screen.
The time it took to fly into the sky on my 30th-class ship was immense, by which point I was already dropping my interest.
However I did not quit yet, I was among the stars and there have been planets, ALL PLANETS, the infinity I could explore...
Unfortunately this "infinite space of infinite possibilities" has seemed like I looped around back to my planet without taking a turn, for in fact, both planets looked exactly the same only with the difference that on one planet I was about to die in radiation clouds, this time it was toxic rain, the next time it was frost, and later it was heat...
I never found my Rannoch, all planets looked alike with minor changes in color and "What is killing you right now" factor.
My confrontations in space were only ranged down to dying because a single ship rolled around me faster than I could turn my mouse around...
And I made allies with the ugliest looking species of space-rhinos which spoke utter nonsense and the only word I comprehended after 9 hours of searching for a codex was "Interloper"...
Then again if someone told me every functioning shack has an encyclopedia on the wall maybe I would have had the whole book by now.
I had hope, for a game to lift me from my chains and show me the stars. Yet all I got was a Styrofoam ping-pong ball and told THIS IS THE UNIVERSE.
Never before have I been disappointed by a game, most of the times their excuses (release dates, hype train, delayments) were good enough and I could still salvage SOMETHING ! But this game, this CRIME OF THE YEAR, was the first thing I wished to never have witnessed.
You advertised a perfect cake of an experience, and we got a sugar-tinted cardboard roll of sandpaper...
I am not aggravated, neither am I offended, I am only utterly disappointing in your lack of attempts to hide these failures. And I proclaim SkyTV the Marauder Shields of our time, they have tried to stop us from seeing this, and we shot them down...

Its a nice looking update, adding a few things that should have been in there from the beginning. I might actually install it again, just to give this new update a run through. Though I can't really see myself following the atlas quest.
What I really want is the ability to get a ship to transport a ground vehicle of your choosing between planets, and the ability to hire and dispatch workers to collect resources for you. Even better, if you can do that from a large freighter. That's the update I'm looking for. Reducing that grind to a minimum, and adding new mechanics in the process.

Honestly, I just have no interest in these "Walking Simulator" games anymore. I've tried so many at this point their all pretty much the same experience imo. You spend all your time grinding materials in order to upgrade equipment whose only function is to make collecting materials easier or building "player bases" then once you've upgraded everything, you just wander around aimlessly "exploring". I personally need something more than that.
