So awhile back I was playing Ghost Recon Wildlands. In that game you can play the game entirely by yourself with an AI squad of three behind you that you can order around and do things with. Or you can have one of your friends join you in AI co op...or an entire squad. Unfortunatley even if you have one other person in that game the rest of them drop out.
I would be curious to see if BioWare could pull this off for the next Dragon Age game. Make it entirely single player but if you want instead of your AI companions you could have one of your friends join your game and do quests with...or vice versa. Obviously though your other companions don't just dissapear if you do not have enough people to make a full party which will let you still do the companion quests.
Obviously the main concern would be an issue of programming. If they cannot do this and have their usual high fidelity companions running around with their full arcs its not worth it but I'd actually be really curious what it would be like ocasionally, maybe, playing this game with friends.
Thoughts?

I'll say in advance that MP is not something that interests me in the least. Obviously the main concern would be an issue of programming. Thoughts? To address this specific issue, I don't see why that should be a big problem. 90% of the world exploration has nothing to do with the NPC character's story arc; you're just running around killings things. You might miss significant banter that way, but that happens for other reasons as well. I don't hear a good portion of the banter in these games because I prefer to roll with my fav crew and never bring anyone else.

That and I'd probably have a character just for MP and a 'regular' character. But yeah not even sure I'd utilize it but it's an idea I've had before and GRW actually pulled it off.

Honestly, that sounds like Divinity: Original Sin II My personal opinion: I played and still play a lot of DAI MP and like it just how it is. If I want to drag a bunch of NPCs through MP, I can just go to the Proving Grounds as a Lvl 1 Arcane Warrior.

I would like there to be no multiplayer. They already have Anthem for that.

The problem is, in order to implement this, they would have to take resources away from something else. I would prefer they not do that. There are plenty of games you can run around in with friends. It seems like the number of single player focused games dwindles by the day. I'd like to keep the ones we still have for a little longer.

Its an interesting idea, but going by past experiences with BioWare games I think having AI controlled NPCs would just be a mistake. Now I would be for other things that improved the aspect of the game for people that want to play solo. Such as buffs or other types of modifiers for the game. I have not had a BioWare game when played that I thought the AI was good enough to try and do complicated things with.
An example would be in the group select you could pick lets say for a four person group. Yourself, P2 = +2% Damage, P3 = Health Regen, P4 +2% Damage. When someone joins the P2 bonus would disappear.

Haven't we had AI companions since the beginning? Or at least since DAI?

Haven't we had AI companions since the beginning? Or at least since DAI? Yes, but they are dumb as a ton of bricks. Using abilities instantly that you might want to save, getting stuck in terrain, unable to properly follow us, and more that I cannot think of. Its why I didn't say it was impossible to do, but that it would be a mistake. Even with Andromeda I had NPCs getting stuck on the terrain trying to follow me around or in door frames.

not a fan of multiplayer games, and even less of placeholder AI. i am in favor of a dragon age MMO however, purely for the purpose of RP. if bioware ever gonna make a dragon age MMO i sure hope they learn from the mistakes of SWTOR and improve on that.
