I think we need a thread about games journalism, which sometimes does and sometimes does not affect BioWare and EA.
I found this quite moving...

With the decline of printed media goes along the decline of this kind of journalism. Most of them struggle to keep audience since it easily disperses across all the channels and voices on the digital platforms. The primary thing that keeps them alive is exclusive content from the publishers and producers and that often puts them in their beds with them which is also not beneficial for their cause in the long run.
Sinking ad revenues, stricter cost management, tighter deadlines and you'll get this.

It's not really surprising. Penny Arcade pointed out gaming journalists were sponging off the community (while at the same time attacking the community) 4 years ago: Much of the content on “the big news sites” is simply reposts from Reddit, encased in their acrid saliva. Once you realize this, you can’t really read them in the same way.

I'm not really fond of Kotaku, or the articles attacking devs for misogynistic games and stuff, but when Kotaku complained They’ve cut off our access to their games and creators, omitted us from their widespread mailings of early review copies, and, most galling, ignored all of our requests for comment on any news stories,” it showed exactly why big news sites are in bed with gaming devs, and why they always fight their battles.

I mostly use gaming journalists for news, not reviews. And since most gaming news can be had from following game devs and producers on social media, I don't have much use for game journalists at all. Not because "hurr durr game journalism is bad." There's simply very little reason for me to consider anything they have to say as worth more than the opinions I can get from my friends.
