I believe the title says it all, really...
My first playthrough got bogged down on Tatooine (as the second planet) with a terribly useless character build (seriously, who choses Consular and go Lightsaber heavy?! I must've hit my head when I was choosing that).
Now I decided to finally finish the game, since I really loved KOTOR2 and wanted to see the first game in it's entirety for myself (YouTube only goes so far, right). My build is pretty good, since I was actually using whatever is housed between my ears when building my Exile, and I'm copying that build in my current PT of the first.
But I didn't want to end up getting buttfucked by my own poor choice of planet order, in case they're intended for certain levels and do not level dynamically.

I dug out the official game guide (yes I still have it) and the planet order is listed as Tatooine, Kashyyk, Manaan and Korriban. I however do Korriban then Manaan as I find Manann boring. Also on Tatooine you get HK and Kashyya you get Jolee. It also should be noted it's possible to do all the side quests on each planet without actually getting the star map though you have to hit them eventually to progress the story.

for storyline purposes Only:
Spoiler Free Reasonings:
Tatioone: Reasons:
Optional in recruiting Hk-47 for a Light side play thru; or you can recruit him for the sole purpose for his dark sense of humor and all of his story upgrades are required before and important scene. Repair Skill: 14 or higher to fully upgrade HK-47. Just say, there is a cool funny yet touching scene with him. Hl47 is an evil violent as hell C3PO expy. and able to do complete Mission Vao's side quest and Bastila's shan Side quest as well.
Kahyyysk: Reasons:
Recruiting Jolee and understanding Wookie culture during this era. Dark or light, plenty of options to become a Dark Jedi or a Light Jedi.
Manaan: Reasons:
Jolee's past is explored a bit thru a Friend.
A very Important Scene if you complete any 3 planets post Dantioone and understand your character's past and if you have hk-47 with full upgrades with a good build and good gear selection, he will become a viable option for saving your crew. then on the Ebon Hawk, there will be a scene with your character and Hk-47 and it is great, funny and touching.
Korriban: Reasons:
A test for your character and deciding if your character is truly a Dark Jedi or a Light Jedi. also Bastila shan can't set foot on Korriban due to many Dark Jedi will send her to Darth Malak, either dead or alive.

My suggestion:
Tatooine immediately, get HK. Leave, go to Dantooine and lie or tell the truth, and proceed as you wish thematically from there. I typically become a Jedi, then return to Tatooine to finish.
Then, I do WookieWorld. Depending on alignment of playthrough determines when I go to Korriban, earlier or later.
Return to Dantooine, finish all business there. Seriously.
Don't forget to visit Yavin IV occasionally to increment your "relationship" with Suvak. It pays off.
You have Manaan or Korriban last, depending on alignment.
...
As far as strategy goes, doesn't matter much in KotOR. In TSL, however, there is a "best" approach if you want to build your lightsaber faster.

The best order for me has usually been Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Manaan, Korriban. But I think Tatooine and Kashyyyk are easily interchangeable.

Here's mine (light side). Basic order is as follows, though there will also be a bit of extra backtracking, too-ing and fro-ing to hand in latter side quests, complete companion quests etc.
Endar Spire
Taris (obviously)
Dantooine - Because I want to get the Jedi training underway ASAP, there seems to be very few benefits in waiting, or attempting to build up points in advance. Grab Juhani, complete all side quests, get star map.
Tatooine - More manageable battles (in my opinion) in relation to your level. Grab HK47, complete all side quests and get star map
Kashyyyk - Do all side quests, grab Jolee do not get star map.
Manaan - All side quests, but do not get star map.
Korriban - All side quests, get star map.
After that I'll head back to Kashyyyk and get the third star map, triggering an 'event', which I won't go into just in case you're new to the game and don't want spoilers. Basically only grabbing two star maps initially has a specific benefit linked to this 'event'.
Then back to Manaan for final star map.
Then I'll double-check all side content is complete. I'll also go to Yavin Station for the top-quality energy crystals and then kick off the end game.

The only rule I have is do Korriban last since Bastila will be gone at that point, and she is unavailable on Korriban anyway.

Interestingly, they have recorded banter VO for her on the planet, so the decision to lock her out of Korriban was a late one. There are mods to unlock that content, just a little extra dialog you haven't heard.

I go to Kashyyyk, all the way; then Tatooine and Manaan intermittently.
Korriban I always do last.
The only "hard-line" plot points are the Star Maps, so if you're worried about cutting off storylines or missing quests, hold off on getting the pieces of the Star Maps.

I prefer doing Korriban last since you get extra dialogue options after The Reveal.

I always do Kashyyyk first 1. Because I think it's the most boring planet and 2 because Jolee is a great companion. I find Tattoine to be more difficult than the other 2 planets (those sand raiders are no joke!)

I seem to remember a certain battle that could take place on either Tatooine or Kashyyk being much (depending on which of them you did first) harder if you had the encounter on Tatooine.
Is that accurate? Or am I having a senior moment?

Korriban: Reasons: A test for your character and deciding if your character is truly a Dark Jedi or a Light Jedi. also Bastila shan can't set foot on Korriban due to many Dark Jedi will send her to Darth Malak, either dead or alive. Agreed. Korriban works great as the planet where you're figuring out how to parse the revelations about your past, and what it means for who you are in the now. Getting a real taste of the dark side, perhaps indulging your frustration and anger at having been deceived on such an existential level without Bastila's support/leadership, and also the chance to really, fully reject it is a much better way to cap off the hunt for the maps than just running around another planet doing good/bad as usual after what you found out. It's also just hard to imagine the PC undertaking such a risky and spiritually demanding undercover mission while fresh off Dantooine.
