She basically left there after dao? For me she was always fascinating (that whole part) including the traps was so different and yet feels likely abandoned . Would love some backstory on how the circle got a hold of her
Wiki says a tevinter magister did this to her. That room full Of artifacts etc . Could the random statues we find in dai such as stormcoast be related

Well... any statue could be a petrified person, but most probably aren't. If a statue doesn't talk, it's probably safe to assume it's an ordinary statue.
Although maybe that's how Meredith animated the statues in the Gallows? They were supposed to be animate anyway, and she just made them slightly less statuelike?

We see and talk to the statue again in Witch Hunt - Finn is quite familiar with it. We also see talking statues in Awakening, the two Avvar brothers turned to stone by another Tevinter mage.

They are between where you find the granite for the walls and Ines the botanist. If you pass close enough to them, you should hear one call out to you.

The statue is of a man, no? I assumed her spirit was somehow confined in a pre-existing statue.

The statue is of a man, no? I assumed her spirit was somehow confined in a pre-existing statue. Could also be the result of a thousand years of wear and tear, as well as exposure to the elements (when she was placed outside of the Archon's fortress) taking their toll, making it hard to determine what gender the status was meant to depict anymore?
The statue could have also been altered/defaced as part of some type of damnatio memoriae. Similar to how the Chantry removed the Canticle of Shartan from the Chant and somehow "forgot" that Inquisitor Ameridan was an Elven Mage, both around the same time the Chantry declared an Exalted March on the Dales (how convenient!)
But you're probably right, Archon Valerius may have put her in a pre-existing (male) statue.
Although anyone who would overreact to a bad portent by trapping their lover in a statue for all eternity, probably isn't going to be above putting them in a male statue, if only out of pettiness and spite.
