Given Bioware seems to think any criticism of their products at all is "toxicity"... Any criticism? No just the extreme ones like death threats. That's pretty damn toxic. And where did I say that wasn't?
But Bioware was INCREDIBLY dismissive of any criticism towards their darling Mass Effect games. And that hurt MEA.

It was a big "Screw You!" to anyone who hoped that they were paying attention on anything but the most superficial layer.

You should probably unpack the rhetoric there a little. Remember, you're responding to someone who doesn't share your feelings (and probably hasn't read as many of your previous posts as I have). If someone hasn't already drunk the haterade, it's not immediately apparent what lecture you're talking about, and what the non-superficial criticisms actually were.

They offered at least some kind of redemption. Throwing the character into the bucket before was pretty disappointing before.

Um, they literally made a DLC that addressed a bunch of complaints and gave it to the players for free. The complaint about the squadmates suddenly appearing on the unknown planet? The player gets the what-the-crap evac scene. What a joke. Harbinger: All reapers stand down. I SAID STAND DOWN. Commander cupcake is having a mushy moment to say goodbye to someone he/she did a short time ago Even the dialogue choices were a joke. Pick the top right, Shepard says, I need to know someone is going to live. If you don't stop the reapers, no one will live. Pick the bottom right, he/she says, you're in no condition to fight. Get to the medbay. Up to that point, whenever a squadmate 'dies' Shepard can use medigel to get them back in the fight. Why not this time? Was it because Bioware only wanted Anderson and Shepard on the Citadel to have the touchy-feely scene? Yes.

I do agree the cut left more questions unanswered than answered.
I would guess the screw you means the refuse ending? I know you refer it as Bioware giving the bird to the players.

Not in my mind. In my mind it fixed any issues I had. The only issue it fixed for me was the flashbacks as Shepard is shooting the tube. Before the cut, it was Larry, Curly, and Moe who showed up in the flashbacks for me.
I liked to have the cut explain who inforned the characters that Anderson was dead for them to put up his nameplate? If ems is below 3100, Shepard's nameplate is put up with no problem. Why the hesitation when over 3100? How long after the crucible fired, did the memorial scene take place? If ems is above 2600, the SR2 flies off the planet with no problem. What was the purpose of the planet? If ems is below 2600, the thrusters are seen being ripped from the fuselage, yet the main body ends up in one piece on the planet. How is that possible? It should be in pieces with everyone dead.

I certainly won't be purchasing ME 5 until well after it's come out and I've had plenty of time for reviews. Andromeda I purchased sight unseen due to the goodwill that the original trilogy garnered (the ME 3 ending notwithstanding). But after the mind numbing mediocracy of endless fetch quests and open world grinding. After the complete sterilization of the setting with no 'alien' aliens to be seen. After the cheap and forced Citadel-like humor injected throughout the narrative. And after the sheer incompetence and stupidity of the entire cast of characters and NPCs I have learned my lesson.
Maybe ME 5 can turn things back around, maybe it can draw me back into the universe like ME 1 did, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it. Unless BioWare gets writers like Chris L'Etoile back, and puts such sci-fi visionaries at the head of the writing staff I have little hope that any future titles will capture that same spark the series started out with. Oh and can the open world 'MMO-lite' game designs go kindly die in a fire please? That would be great.

Sorry you didn't but I don't want anything to do with going back to the MW or anything less than Andromeda.

With the type of game Anthem will be, my prediction is we will get an Andromeda 2 in the like. Open-world and mindless fetch quest is the new BW formula. At this point I'm not too worried about it. If Anthem doesn't kill BW; we can only expect more of Andromeda. I'm personally on the edge of my seat waiting on Cyberpunk 2077. BW doesn't do RPGs anymore. Assassin's creed odyssey felt like more of an RPG than Andromeda, and that's sad. Ubisoft doesn't even pride itself on being a RPG dev. Old BW is gone and I've accepted it. "ME5" will definitely be Andromeda 2.

What "more like an RPG " metrics are you using? Basically choices actually affect story, and way more customization of your character's abilities and appearance with armor and weapons.

Basically choices actually affect story, and way more customization of your character's abilities and appearance with armor and weapons. Umm that's in all the games. Umm no it isn't. You honestly do not seem to understand what people mean when they say that. It's a known fact that most choices in the ME games have little to no impact on the plot. It doesn't matter what squadmates you keep alive, or what races you recruit, or killing the council, etc. The plot of the game always progresses the same way with basically the outcome. Even on a cosmetic level anything barely changes. For instance, If you kill the council a new, identical looking council takes their place. And where did I say that wasn't?
But Bioware was INCREDIBLY dismissive of any criticism towards their darling Mass Effect games. And that hurt MEA.
Um, they literally made a DLC that addressed a bunch of complaints and gave it to the players for free. Yeah but that was after they received more backlash for an ending than literally any other story's ending has in history. People literally started a cupcake charity to draw attention to it. Not to mention it was the opposite of what they promised it would be. They HAD to do something. And it's not like they did much. The Extended Cut was an insult. It barely fixed anything and actually created more plot holes than it tried to answer. I don't get why they could not have simply made an ending like DAO's but with some clips or something added.

AC:Odessey choice is just insane how it affects the game, and have 9 different complete endings based on the player choice. ME has always had the illusion of choice similar to Telltale episodic games. For a game developer like Ubisoft who has never done a game like this before; they did an outstanding job. Especially with the added family dynamic to the story as well. First game ever, I actually felt something for the main character family. DA2 failed at pulling that off, and BW games as a whole failed to ever make choices matter. I'm not surprised BW stepped away from RPGs.

Sounds like ME5 and DA4 are already going to incorporate Anthem's live services. Don't know that it will be to the same extent but it's definitely going to be there. Wish I could remember where I saw this brought up.

I understand fine. I don't agree. As to the EC, imo it was fine. Yep, it worked for me as well... Of course it does if you have low standards or are simply biased towards bioware games. I honestly don't know how you can claim your choices have any real impact when every mission you go on is basically identical regardless of your choices, the plot always progresses the exact same way, and the ending is based solely on a number score that you can get regardless of what choices you make. Go play the Witcher or Alpha Protocol, or AC, or Fallout: NV, etc. I would also add that the EC was a rushed piece of garbage that barely fixed anything. It made the plot hole of how your squad gets on the Normandy even worse by having Shepard call in the Normandy in the middle of the dash to the beam. Let's think about this for one second..... If we could just call the Normandy in at any time.. THEN WHY THE HELL DIDNT WE JUST FLY STRAIGHT TO THE BEAM AND AVOID THE ENTIRE GROUND BATTLE? What was the point of the entire final mission when we could have just flown straight to the beam from the start? or better yet, why not fly straight to the Citadel? Even with the arms closed there were still holes large enough to fly ships through. But this is made even worse because HARBINGER IS LITERALLY STANDING 50 OR SO METERS AWAY. What was to stop Harbinger from blowing up the Normandy while it was just sitting in front of it. Shepard is even able to say a last goodbye to his squad while Harbinger is apparently oblivious to the whole thing. No one stops to wonder if this is a good idea while they are standing right in front of a giant reaper that is still in the process of shooting everyone around it.... yet apparently not the giant ship with the people running to it directly in front of it. This also does not answer the question of how the rest of our team got on board the Normandy. The irony here is that Shepard called in the Normandy to save 1 injured squadmate but in the process jeopardized the entire Normandy and should have gotten everyone killed right then and there. The kid still barely answers any of your questions and he doesnt even give a reason for why he can;t answer more. he simply says "there isn't enough time to explain" when in reality you have all the time in the world. Remember he basically controls the reapers and there are none even trying to attack you so why the hell he can't explain himself more. We also have no idea what happened to everyone on the Citadel. As far as we know the council is dead. The game didn't even bother telling us that. The Red ending still makes no sense. How the hell does this beam magically differentiate between a true AI and a calculator? How does any technology work when the red beam destroys technology? How do the Geth fall under the category of technology but advanced computers, space ships, etc. don't? The Green ending is still utterly baffling in every way and nothing was explained. What does the green ending even do? It's never explained. It makes everything cybernetic? How? Why? How does a beam magically give ALL LIFE IN THE GALAXY cybernetic parts that are completely compatible with them? It can somehow give a HUD to a whale and a virus? And for what purpose? How is that going to stop people from creating purely synthetic life? I get that people 'won't need AIs' but that wouldn't stop people from still making them for whatever reason. There's trillions upon trillions of people in the galaxy and you are telling me that NONE of them would ever create AIs again? And apparently according to Edi, all synthetics get knowledge of all organic life that has ever existed in the Milky Way...... or something to that effect. First off, how the hell could they even handle that much information? Second, what exactly would that accomplish? If anything it would just give synthetics all the information they need to manipulate organic life in the galaxy. Even the slide show at the end is garbage. Most of the slides have no context and don't shows at all what happens afterwards. Zaeed's is about the only one that tells us anything. And maybe the Rachni's. You might expect too much from "choices" spanning over three entire games. The amount of different storylines is just not economically feasible to create. I am not necessarily talking about affects on the game from previous games, because even the game in which you make the choice is not affected by the impact of the choice either.

You might expect too much from "choices" spanning over three entire games. The amount of different storylines is just not economically feasible to create. I am not necessarily talking about affects on the game from previous games, because even the game in which you make the choice is not affected by the impact of the choice either. I've played through the trilogy 30+ times and I enjoyed what I got post-EC. Conversely, you're welcome to continue to froth at the mouth and bang a nearly 7 year old drum. Just don't buy their games, you'll probably be happier.
