Not to steal anyone's thunder, but the Calpernia thread got me thinking: if one our Mage Companions in Dragon Age 4 is a Tevinter, to better inform us on those parts of Imperium culture, who would be your preference, and why?

I don't have a preference for any one specific person.
I have reasons for thinking that neither Dorian or Maevaris will be that person, which I've enumerated elsewhere. I have no investment in Calpernia; she wasn't in my game (I got the mage path), and I've never met her (never finished the templar path). In fact, I think I would prefer not to have her for that reason.
We got the full non-mage experience with Fenris, and a tad bit with Krem, and the full mage experience with Dorian. I don't think there is any sort of imbalance to make up for.
However, I'll also point out that they don't like to do similar character types in succeeding games, so it may be that we won't get a Tevinter mage, particularly altus, because of that (which rules out Maevaris as well as Dorian [the carryover]).

I voted "no mage". We got one last time. I adore Dorian and a part of me would buy a game containing nothing but 40 hours of his banter in an empty room buuut let's be reasonable...
As said above, we already got a none mage in Fenris too but I'd still prefer another escaped slave over a mage. An inside perspective from an outsider, could be a neutral party too, like a mercenary, or better yet somebody lower class with no magic in their bloodline. Tevinter is not a fun place to many groups aside from slaves. I'd like to learn more about those that fall in between the ruling class and the slaves.
Dorian should absolutely return in a minor role. Or even as an important story element. But not a companion.
Never finished my templar playthrough so I have no opinion on Calpernia. Wasn't she another lunatic to defeat replacing Samson?? O.o

I voted for Mae, because I think she’d fill an interesting niche with respect to fleshing out Tevinter.
We’ve had the former slave (Fenris). We’ve had the reluctant magister (Dorian). Mae has connections and positioning that Dorian lacked. There’s a place for people like Dorian, to be sure, but he’s relatively green when it comes to the politics. Mae is the wily, experienced incumbent who may not please all the reformers, but is able to get shit done.
That said, Calpernia’s a close second for sure. I would love to see the two of them talk. Mae almost certainly has some blind spots that Calpernia would be best equipped to challenge.

I went with none, thinking about the discussion Dorian had about slaves that one day their sons son would become a mage.

I voted for Maevaris, but I'd be happy with Calpernia as well. (Or in addition.) I just really want to see Mae in game.

I voted for Maevaris as well. I don't wish to have Dorian as companion again though. Him being a sort of Advisor could also do fine.

I voted for Calpernia but if i had the option my pick would be Calpernia and Maevaris. Why not have them both in the DA 4 Party?
Dorian would be fine in an Advisor/Major Role like DAI Leliana. Also Dorian is too similar compared to Maevaris.

I like the idea of Calpernia, Maevaris, or an escaped Saarebas. I'd prefer Dorian to be more of a prominent NPC/advisor type.

I voted for Mae.
If we need a Tevinter mage in the game as a companion I'd rather have the trans Mae West type character (seems like a very unique and fun character). We got Dorian as a companion in the last game (what else could he add that he didn't provide in the last game?) and I'd rather Calpernia be a conflicted antagonist we face instead of a party member.

I'd prefer Calpernia, but it's almost guaranteed that Maevaris will be a companion. Bioware wouldn't pass up the opportunity to have a transgender companion.

Calpernia has the most interesting potential. How is she changed by her betrayal by Corypheus? Does she seek redemption or is she further hardened? She's surely lost that naive idealism that would lead her to follow a darkspawn magister.

i want mae, dorian and calpernia to all appear (which seem likely), but i wouldn't want any of them as a companion, that being said, i do want their role to be more than just a cameo.
however, if bioware are planning to continue the trend of "one of the companions from the previous installment becoming a companion again", than dorian is the most obvious. well, have to wait and see =D

As much as I adore Dorian, I feel like most of his background and personal story was already explored in Inquisition. His potential relationships with the Inquisitor/Bull would also mean losing out on a romance option, if he returned as a party member. That's why I'd prefer Dorian to be our patron or advisor-type character, as it would allow him to still be present, without taking up a companion/romance slot.
Mae and Calpernia would be excellent to have as companions, as they haven't really been explored (beyond additional media) and both could easily be potential romance options. I'd actually prefer we have both of them in the party, as they'd provide great character and political juxtaposition (much like Wynne and Morrigan in Origins). Mae seems to favour social reform and work to ensure the Imperium has a future, whereas Calpernia seems more traditional and strongly desires that Tevinter attempt to reclaim their past glory. Both have good intentions and motivations for how they want to shape Tevinter... and I imagine would generate a lot of discussion/debate if we were allowed to choose who we ultimately hung our hat with.

I would rather have a new character or somebody besides those three. Next week the Deception comic comes out so maybe Olivia is a mage if so that could be an interesting character to have.
If we have to have one of those three, I choose Maevaris. We've already had Dorian, can't stand Calpernia, and it would be great to have a trans companion. Though I think she would fit better as an adviser-like character.

I chose none, because my highest priority for a Tevinter citizen perspective as a party companion would be for an Ambassadoria-associated dwarf. However, if I missed the point of the poll, then I include my backup vote for a romanceable Maevaris.

His potential relationships with the Inquisitor/Bull would also mean losing out on a romance option, if he returned as a party member. Not arguing for him as a follower, because I don't want that for various reasons, but I just want to point out that we always have followers that are not LI -- Wynne, Sten, Oghren, Shale, Varric, Avaline, Varric (again), Cole, Vivienne. Dorian would just slot into that role if he were to be a returning follower; we wouldn't be losing anything.

They did end up using Leliana again and the other advisers were romansable after all. Though I agree with Dorian not being included, at least not as a companion.

I would assume that Dorian and Maevaris will be like Leliana and Cassandra in DAI.
Dorian as the Lucerni Leader is too busy to join us so Maevaris take his place.
And Calpernia will be an optional Companion like Sera or Vivienne.

If they bring back 9 party members like DAI (which I prefer they did), we could easily have Maevaris, Calpernia, and a new mage, which, IMO, would be ideal.

Dorian as the Lucerni Leader is too busy to join us so Maevaris take his place. It seems he and Maevaris are co-leaders. Mae started the group and Dorian joined and stepped into a leadership role along with her. It's not Dorian's group. I've seen numerous people do this on the forums and it's just not accurate to characterize the Lucerni in that way. From the friend letter in Trespasser: "For months I've had only the Society of Maevaris's fledgling Lucerni party..." From the romance letter: "Maevaris and I have been meeting with our fledgling Lucerni party..." I mean, Dorian's great and all, and my favorite character in the franchise, but let's not ignore the fact that Mae is the older, more experienced of the two, with political cache that Dorian lacks. IMO it doesn't make sense for either of them to be followers, considering the circumstances and their responsibilities.
I've seen people use the comparison to Vivienne. However, I'd argue that it also made little sense for her, considering the circumstances. I'd also suggest that in being a magister, Maevaris has even more responsibility than Vivienne does.
