Mae or Calpernia would be nice to see, but I would much prefer someone entirely new I'd love to see Kieran as a companion (depending on the time gap between Inquisition and the new game he could be an adult by then), then again he would be difficult to include since he may not be present in all world states
but yeah, a brand new character might be more fun and interesting to see on that note...I wonder who our link companion will be in Awakening we had Oghren, Anders in DA2, and Varric for Inquisition
(also am I the only one who noticed that the returning characters have the same class as Bioware's 'canon' class for the protagonists? (Warden = warrior, Hawke = mage, Quizzy = rogue) )

who would be your preference, and why? I chose someone completely new. Because we've already gotten Dorian, Mae, and Calpernia's version of Tevinter. I want a new set of Insider Eyes to give new information. It would be weird for Dorian to start referring to things that had never come up before in conversation with him because the writers have obviously added more lore. It would be character jarring. Whereas a new set of eyes giving new information makes sense.

Assuming we get a 2/2/2 configuration for our companions, it's likely we'll have someone new in addition to someone old...probably Calpernia. Personally, I wouldn't mind Dorian and Calpernia since they'd give you different perspectives on Tevinter...which could make for some delicious conflict, both in cutscenes and party banter.

Why 2/2/2 ? Isn´t 3/3/3 for each class be more likely?
I don´t think that Dorian will return as Companion. He has already plenty of Screentime and he is too similar to Maevaris. And don´t forget that Bioware didn´t like to use former Romances as Companions again.
but yeah, a brand new character might be more fun and interesting to see on that note...I wonder who our link companion will be in Awakening we had Oghren, Anders in DA2, and Varric for Inquisition No one this time or should i say its likely that our link Companion will be Lace Harding. Because Bioware and the majority of the DA Fans love Harding but the main reason is that Harding is the easiest one to integrate. Like Oghren, Anders (not really) and Varric before.

Isn´t 3/3/3 for each class be more likely? I don't know about likely, more like possible. I'm sort of anticipating them scaling back on number of companions but I guess we'll see. As for Dorian, I don't really see it happening either...I just wouldn't mind it.

I'd like Maevaris, but I'd be happy for her to be an advisor or something.

I chose Dorian, but I would also like to see him with a backstory that involved Fenris and seriously, a scene with pissy Dorian and pissy Cullen would be awesome. I wanna see the two of them bickering back and forth in a humorous debate. I think it would be phenomenal.

Voted for Calperina but I would actually like it if Mae was the actual companion earlier on but we eventually get a Alister/Loghain type situation with her and Calperina. I actually want both as companions with Dorian as a advisor but since I think that seems unlikely so a situation were I can experience having one in one game and another in another game would be cool.
I just would want this situation to happen earlier in the game then later. Make Calperina last companion we can get as a secret companion but not late game maybe mid game or a little bit after we get our final companion. I think both have good character arcs that would be interesting to explore. I want them both romancable also so that way we arnt sacrifing a romance for a non romance

What if we are the Tevinter Mage as an origin? It could be likely but I think not, but that said who really knows any thing can happen I don't think it unfeasible. Tevinter accents seem British, we could be from any strata of society, as Dorian makes it clear, while Mages do rule in Tevinter not all mages are equal. This origin could open as many doors as it closes. Then again this is my inner Tevinter fanboy talking so make of it what you will.

Well Neve Gallus, "Someone completely new", has won the spot for Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Tevinter mage. Even wihh a lot of logical theory crafting and wishing. Dorian, Maevaris, nor Calpernia will be Companions. Though they still could be in the game as Advisors and/or quest givers.
Any thoughts on why none of them panned out, despite being popular? Mae and Dorian might be out as Companions since David Gaider isn't there to write them anymore, but DA writers have taken over others' characters before.

Any thoughts on why none of them panned out, despite being popular? Mae and Dorian might be out as Companions since David Gaider isn't there to write them anymore, but DA writers have taken over others' characters before. They have never carried over a companion who was formerly a romance in a previous game, although they have used one as an advisor, Leliana. Thus, it was unlikely Dorian was ever going to be a companion, although I do expect to see him at some point in Tevinter, as it would be odd if we didn't. The recent panel didn't rule out having cameos of familiar characters but refused to be drawn as to saying who they would be (other than those from the Missing) as they wanted to keep it as a surprise for the game. Also, we may see him in connection with Emmrich since Dorian did have strong ties with the Mortalitasi and the Grand Necropolis. Maevaris was very much DG's character so they may have felt they didn't want to make her a companion. Also, it probably didn't fit their narrative as companions are linked to factions and Maevaris founded the Lucerni, who haven't been mentioned since Trespasser. So, again, likely she may feature in game (as she was in Tevinter Nights alongside Dorian), probably in connection with a quest in Tevinter itself. She and Dorian were vehemently opposed to the Venatori so I could see them setting us some sort of quest associated with those enemies or collaborating with us in some other way. Calpernia is clearly not returning as a companion, unless as a temporary one for a specific quest. However, since she never actually died in DAI, she could make an appearance either as an ally or an enemy. For all we know she could be the Viper behind the Shadow Dragons. Harding was clearly our link character with DAI. Whilst she wasn't an actual companion there, she did feature prominently throughout the game and the writers have said they brought her back because of how popular she was. Since all the companions are romance options this time round clearly they had to ensure there were no complications in their back story that might prevent this. Of the companions in DAI, none were ever going to be a possibility because of this. Cassandra: Can be in romance and/or Divine; Vivienne: Can be Divine; Cole: Can be a spirit or human (and in a relationship); Sera: Can be romanced or in a relationship with Dagna; Iron Bull: Can be romanced, in a relationship with Dorian or dead; Blackwall: Can be in a romance or dead. Solas is now the antagonist and Varric devoted to Bianca. We have yet to discover if he is dead or MIA after the prologue but clearly at most he will be an advisor or temporary companion on occasion going forward.

I would've liked a Tevinter Mage companion who wasn't native to Tevinter e.g. an Avvar, but who instead found themselves in a high enough within the Tevinter hierachy. I wish the Tevene native had been from a noble family like Dorian but born without magic, and tried to find her own place in the world now that she couldn't do the usual mage things. Maybe that could've been the Antivan Crow lady in the concept art?

I wish the Tevene native had been from a noble family like Dorian but born without magic, and tried to find her own place in the world now that she couldn't do the usual mage things. Since they are returning to companions having unique abilities, there is more chance of hybrid characters occurring. Already they have said that Harding, a dwarf, will acquire some magical abilities (we have yet to discover how and what they are), whilst Bellara seems to be a hybrid mage archer too, but with the emphasis on the magic as her starting point and acquiring archer abilities through her gauntlet (so sort of Harding in reverse). As we don't know her origins, she could be from just about anywhere and I have already suggested elsewhere that her fixation with triangles could connect her with both Par Vollen and Seheron. Meanwhile, whilst Neve now sees herself as a champion of the common people, she could have different background from the previous Tevinter mages we have encountered, whether friend or foe. Whilst I don't think she could have come from as far afield as the Avvar, there is a remote possibility her family could be from a more remote location, perhaps adjacent to the Anderfels or somewhere to the east, maybe down near the Hundred Pillars. Tevinter is a big place after all. There is even an outside chance her family could have originally lived on Seheron as I believe Tevinter do have a small enclave there but in any case it was only around 100 years ago that the Qunari retook the island, so her grandparents or great grandparents could have fled to Minrathous at that point. When it comes to people born without magic but perhaps have some sort of magical heritage, there was some hint by the writer that Lucanis may have some small amount of magic and at present we only know who his grandmother is but not his parents. Perhaps one or both of them were mages.
