Just follow the instructions. Slots and connections are basically idiot proof. X item goes into X slot, Z connection goes into Z hard ware.

Seagate's Firecuda better than the Blue WD? I think all of them are garbage. A lot of the WD Blue drives are 5400 RPM, so yes, Firecuda SSHDs are a lot better when it comes to performance. The only WD HDDs that I buy are the Black (7200 RPM with 5 year warranty) and the Red (for NAS) drives. As for SSDs, I only trust Intel and Samsung (Pro drives only, not Evo). Mine can transfer up to 110 MB/s to my Samsung EVO 840 SSD. Just tried it a few seconds ago.

Yes SSD prices have dropped a lot. I've seen their prices get cut in half just last year and they will keep falling.
As far as reliability goes, any good SSD is as reliable, if not more, than a mechanical hard drive. SSHDs are faster than normal hard drives, but not as consistently fast as SSDs, even less compared to PCI-e models like M.2 modules.
I have two Samsung drives: 830 128GB from 2011 and 850 EVO 250GB from 2014. Despite the heavy use they are still nowhere near end of life.

Friends of mine are talking me into building my own PC, and I guess I'm going to try, nervous as I am. But they're going to need to talk me through it every step of the way. Find out the specs you want and estimate costs before you start building to see how much you'd be saving. There are pretty good deals on gaming PCs out there now, so it might not be quite worth the hassle. When my sister built her PC, she kept track of the various parts and bought them one by one as there were price drops. She ended up saving a fair amount, but it took her much longer to actually have a PC. Me, I just straight up bought mine for not all that much (I believe it was on sale as well). Runs everything just fine. Don't forget that you can also upgrade parts later on so you can just have a starter now and replace parts with more high-end ones as you can afford them.

Take a look at this one. The price is a bit higher but it has a better graphics card and is also white.

You might want to reconsider.
Even this game needs:
Galactic Civilizations III Recommended Requirements
CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor or Equivalent RAM: 6 GB OS: 64-bit Windows 8.1 / 8 / 7 Video Card: 1 GB DX 10.1 Video Card Click here for the latest video card drivers Sound Card: Yes Free Disk Space: 15 GB
That 6 GB, really is unachievable with 8GB of ram because of windows and other programs using from Ram.
Newer huge games will need more memory than that.

If you have big hands and/or poor motor skills I would caution physically building a pc without any assistance.
Fortunate my BIL is quite good at it; otherwise I could not do it.

Fortunately for me, i have girl hands, so that isn't an issue. Another bit of general advice is to get at least a mid-tower, that way one has a future-proof case where they don't have to worry about parts not fitting. I was originally going to use the case of my previous prebuilt comp, but it proved too small for the motherboard i was going to put in(let alone the other parts) and ended up with this bad boy instead.

I have a fulltower atx case and that is still not enough room for me. I have troubles placing the RAM in the slots and seating the GPU into the PCI-e slot. I would need an ultra atx case that would weigh 50 pounds. Speaking of cases I am going to get a new case, one without plastic and better build quality.

Building your own PC is easy. I learned that by disassembling and assembling my first PC and I found out that it's just LEGO. With cables. Mine can transfer up to 110 MB/s to my Samsung EVO 840 SSD. Just tried it a few seconds ago. Try that on my 4x4TB WD Black on RAID 10. IMO, HDDs often end up being the biggest bottleneck. That's why I never skimp on storage when I get a new PC. And I thought that I'm weird with 3x6TB WD Black in Raid. I do miss my Velociraptors *le sigh*.

And I thought that I'm weird with 3x6TB WD Black in Raid. I do miss my Velociraptors *le sigh*. Haha. Like everyone else, I stopped using Raptors and Velociraptors as soon as large SSDs became more affordable to me. Now I don't think I can ever build or use a PC without SSD.

OK, disclaimer ... this doesn't really fit in this thread, but it's the closest I've found and my post is not worth a thread of its own.
Windows 10 Anniversary Update and Logitech gaming mice ... you know, the programmable mice ... may have some issues.
If you go into a game and your mouse isn't working properly ... download and install the latest version of their LGS software (8.88.3 as of this post), delete the game profile you created for your mouse (pre-Win10 Anniversary Update), for the game with which you are having problems. Create a new game profile for the game and your Logitech mouse should work properly again.
Logitech support was not much help. Pretty much all their suggestions were really bad and would not have fixed the problem. Their support forum might even be worse than EA's ... it really didn't have anything that addressed my issue ... other than lots of Logitech customers were having issues with Logitech hardware, after the Win10 Anniversary Update. Origin In-Game.
Problem came back ... after a LOT of mucking around ... the issue appears to be Origin In-Game. I don't think it is JUST a Win10 issue, there are issues with Origin In-Game with other gaming software, like some Razer software. I have a Razer keyboard and associated software. It could be a combo of Win10, Razer and Origin In-Game.
Bottom line, I disabled Origin In-Game and the problem went away ... again. But this time, it stayed away. Also, passed that info along to EA and Logitech, plus of course, Razer.
So if this helps you, that's a good thing. Hope you haven't had to jump through too many hoops.
