Lame. Never cared for a bunch of sub forums. Now I have to be bothered to move away from the 2.5 forums that I surf here.
Edit. Really lame. Now I see a bunch of sub forums for Other games.
*Sigh*

Well..... If this forum was never going to grow bigger than it is, then I would be howling at the fences with pitchfork and pictures of DragonRacer and SofaJockey's avatars with a red slash through their names! As it stands.... Anthem is going to come out. For better or worse, this forum will continue to grow at that time. When that happens, this would be a welcome change too late. So, this is just Preparation-H. Gotta cover your tookus, and if that means a little planning then what can I say. This PSA is brought to you by Preparation-H Edit: Con side: We don't want or need wanna-be RPGCodex.

Also in the mix was visibility for people "thinking of making a thread but for whom the search function is borked" and general "finding things you're interested in talking about". Plus, as ME is on hiatus and DA is "totally not being made right now"...the sub forums can help with SEO visibility on Google for potential new members. Yes.

OK, I'll be that person who doesn't like more sub categories... This means if I want to browse what's going on with other games I have to open each category now. I find this very... inconvenient. Especially on mobile. But since I seem to be the only one, never mind me! Not at all, I am not a big fan of multiple sub-forums either. I don't often visit other games or talk about movies/tv/entertainment, so I wont affect me that much. On the other hand the change does not courage me to do so either. Looks a bit messier in my opinion.

We'll monitor the situation. It will be successful in generating additional conversation - or it won't. If it doesn't we can always put it back.

I like it. It's essentially a redistribution of information that was already there, making more visible at the same time. To the user, and to search engines.

I think different people tend to use different parts of the board, so I guess that's normal. Just a small piece of advice: I'm like you and don't often discuss other games on here, so I'm using the hide-function for the subforums I don't need to see. Keeps my landing page nice and neat, and if I want to look something up I can still do so with just one more click. That being said, I like the change, especially the separation of the movies/music section and the general discussion. Well done!

I find it pretty much too fractured now. I'm not a fan of finding a drawer with a label for every thing there is.
Also: I kinda liked seeing people talk about other games I dont have on my radar - now, I'd have to venture there to look and I doubt I can be arsed. There subforums now with under 10 threads in. Never mind the additional work for mods having to shovel new threads to places because ppl can't be bothered checking the forum structure first or maybe fear their thread will go unnoticed in a subforum that looks pretty much dead.

My 2 cents on the new setup:
Personally, while I appreciate the effort, I’m not a fan of the changes, especially splitting certain dev studios into different sub forums. I like to read people’s opinions and new posts on games of all developers and I used to be able to see what’s new for any of them with one click. Now, I have to click through 6 or 7 subforums, to do the exact same thing. I mean, I get that this allows for more games to be on page 1 of their particular forum, which otherwise might have been on page 2 or 3 but come on, it’s not like the forum is so busy that threads in that section go to page 2 in a few minutes or something. Unless there is some option I didn’t know about, that allows to merge threads on the user side, (in which case, please tell me), I think this new setup is pretty inconvenient. Sorry, again, I do like that the admins are trying to improve things, just saying, in this case, IMO it kinda made things worse.

In my opinion all we're gonna see from this is a further fracturing of a already small group of posters. Though I guess it will be interesting to see if people start creating more specific threads in each subforum, which as I understand it is the intent here.

Just noticed the huge re-design of offtopic/other games. Now I know why my "new" button kept taking me back to page 1 of a 200+ page thread I just posted in today. Not sure I like it separated out by company rather than by game in a single topic since, for the most part, who makes a game isn't something a normally pay much attention to.
Came here to say the same thing. In terms of process, I think a little community feedback into how to organize into sub-forums before the change would have been good. I would have suggested by platform, like PC, Xbox, Playstation, Wii, etc., instead of by studio, since that's how most other subs are organized (Reddit) and that's usually the first factor people use to determine what game to play, particularly given exclusives. In terms of personal preference, I liked that there was one sub where I could sample the community news and feedback all in one spot. Now I have to visit literally every sub under Other Games to get the same information. More work for me with no additional added value. If the goal was the drive up page views on the site, I suppose that's one way to do it.

In my opinion all we're gonna see from this is a further fracturing of a already small group of posters. Though I guess it will be interesting to see if people start creating more specific threads in each subforum, which as I understand it is the intent here. It's about engagement rather than page views. We are tinkering because we do want to hook some additional visitors over Anthem launch. BSN can handle conversations too complex for Twitter, more linear than Reddit is designed for, and less corporate than some 'official' forums. BioWare isn't exactly pumping out games at a fast rate and Mass Effect Andromeda was polarizing. Anthem will be something different, so really it's been 4 years since BioWare had a win on its hands (DAI). So a little diversification is in order. We'd like to offer more space for different conversations - if they don't happen we'll likely roll some of those sub-folders right back down again. But without testing them we don't know which will 'catch'. After two and a bit years it's not as if we mess about with folders every day...

Ah yes, "sub-forums"... we have dismissed that claim! And now you are telling me there are actually other forums than Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer? Do you mean these sections with all the weirdos and cry-babies who are the reason why MP'ers we usually discuss EVERYTHING in the ME3MP section because people around there are actually cool? Maybe we can have like 10 additional sections just inside the ME3MP sub-forum? Ah who am I kidding, we'd all just keep posting in the main section anyways.

It's a cautious and gentle process. Creating opportunities for new pathways but also watching where people go, and responding to that. During MEA launch, we were getting 10x the daily visitors compared to our normal baseline. The 3 months before a game launch is my favorite forum time.

Can you take all the ME threads of cmdrshep2183 and consolidate them under a single thread instead of the vast wasteland of pointless questions? The guy doesn't even participate in the threads he creates.

Change on the internet!!???!?!111 Eh... it's extra navigation, but that's only a minor annoyance. I'm not sure the "Other Games" section really had the collective traffic to need splitting up. I don't know that the site ever listed more than about 8 people reading that entire section while I was watching, but maybe traffic generally hits it at times when I'm not looking.

So I just saw that the DAI Mechanics subforum vanished. (as of this thread) My only question to that is: What will happen to the threads inside? Because I don't know about you, but the guides inside were really helpful, especially the BUGS/GLITCHES one. Are they gonna be moved to the Dragon Age Series Modding, Mechanics and Builds subforum? ewwww now I need to scroll down

I'm late to this post but you make a good point, considering I wanted to lessen the clutter on the main page and put everything in sub boards. Better to have direct access to topics and see what goes on individually such as recent posts. Now I'm gonna keep this in the mod section...
