I'm absolutely PUMPED for this. I literally can't wait!

Warcraft III is right there in my top five video games of all time, and getting a remastered version is enough to make me froth at the mouth. Release date can't come quick enough.

In case you guys haven't heard, they're definitely adding new stuff even to the release version. The campaign maps are getting redesigned to match the geography of World of Warcraft and to spice up the less interesting missions. I don't really play WoW, but I love its environmental design anyway. I've heard some grumbling about the changes, but personally I can always play the original version and would rather experience some new stuff. Plus, if this means we might get new biomes to play around with in the editor (Winterspring! Mulgore! Eversong Woods!), I'm all for it.

Also, they've brought writer and long-term Blizzard collaborator Christie Golden over, and she spoke of wanting to give some characters that become important later in the story some more time in the spotlight. I'm curious as to how they'll go about that. And for skirmish mode, heroes will have male and female versions, which sounds awesome. My mind keeps going back to how that would enhance custom maps. Like, maybe Middle-earth maps won't have to use a busty archer to stand in for Legolas!

Caution is good, and I would recommend against preordering anyway. But I don’t think there’s reason to panic just yet. Have you seen the Stratholme gameplay they put up?  The geography of the map’s changed but the mission’s the exact same otherwise.

I share the same general gameplay preferences e.g. I don’t like rushing, and prefer to take my time to build up and explore the map. Hence why I loved the campaigns and custom maps but never got into skirmish mode. I confess, however, that I don’t see the point in playing the exact same missions I can load up right now if I wanted to, only with spiffier graphics. I didn’t bother with Starcraft remastered because of that.

So while I can agree with “don’t change the core gameplay” (which they have promised not to do, as far as I know), I can’t with “don’t change anything at all.”
