Seems this topic is all the rage and picking up steam these days, including on this forum.

Why people keep bringing up this flat earth drivel? It's as ridiculous as thinking a man can be a woman.

I like the Flat Earth "theory" because it's ridiculously complicated and fools stumble around trying to reconcile it.

I like the Flat Earth "theory" because it's ridiculously complicated and fools stumble around trying to reconcile it. Explain. How is it that all other celestial bodies we observe retain a spherical (or oblong spheroid shape if you're feeling silly) due to the forces of gravity exerted on matter, while our measly rock is a big ridiculous disc? What's on the other side? How would there be tectonic forces on a disc anyway? How would there even be geothermic activity? How does the disc retain its shape when it clearly has a gravitational pull? Where does the atmosphere end... Where is the motherfuckin' edge? Why is it that none of these slack-jawed crackpots have been able to go to the actual end to show the abyss into space? Why would we futz about flinging rockets directly upward to escape the atmosphere when we could just create launch points at the edge?

That doesn't explain how one model is ridiculously more complex then the other. Who do you think would win in Occam's Razor? How do you know the stars are spherical and how does this prove a spherical Earth. Did you ever check out all the p900 camera footage of stars/wondering stars online or better yet buy said camera to check for yourself? Do you know how light reflects off a sphere? This thread is here to stimulate your minds and encourage a friendly debate (I'd rather stay out of it for the most part, personally, but looks like I have to intervene a little to get you guys actually discussing the science). So what's the scientific explanation to why the full moon moon reflects light evenly if a sphere?

Flat earthers believe that there is a wall of ice (yes, just like Game of Thrones) around the edge of the earth, which is patrolled and guarded by the Night's Wa... errr I mean NASA, to prevent people from getting close to the edge and their dirty little secret from getting out (what exactly they have to gain from this elaborate conspiracy is never really clear, as with most crackpot conspiracy theories). In general, you have to be careful about assuming that there is some internal logic or sense to flat earthism lest you underestimate just how ridiculous and delusional it really is.

This would mean that NASA consumes a great deal of its budget for the technology and manpower to continuously monitor the circumference of the Earth Disk, just to guard vast nothingness. The bastards. They must live in sealed habitats there, since the atmosphere is concentrated primarily at the disk's center, where I live.

Also NASA was only founded in 1958, so who do they think was monitoring the wall and keeping it secret before then? Furthermore, wouldn't the Soviets have blown the lid off this conspiracy during the Cold War, since surely they had no reason to help the West by keeping quiet about this? Wouldn't have exposing the existence of the Flat Earth to the world, thereby discrediting the US by proving the moon landing was fabricated, have benefited them immensely? (Silly me, trying to bring logic into this)

Honestly just need a place to vent my current passion, discussing flat Earth. Mostly random stuff that's entertaining, like today, had many good laughs listening to 1/4 of the Flat Earth Debate with host NathanOakley1980. It's an open panel debate show where everyone is welcome to join via google hangouts and discuss the shape of the Earth. It's daily and in my opinion very entertaining (never miss a show for past few months now).
Sadly the best parts of the show when it was filled with globeheads are behind us. The arguments have got so refined that there's no more wiggle room for obfuscation, begging the question, reification fallacies, etc. But the globe view is the popular opinion, so there will never be a shortage of those willing to get in the ring to defend the globe.
