to be released in Feb 2019. Industrialisation setting. Back to some Anno roots? Another travesty of insta spawning AI bases? At least the setting interests me. But after the last 2 Annos, I'm not expecting anything much, yet still hope for a good game.

It's been pushed back to mid April. First impressions do look indeed it might be more of a Anno 1404, one gem of a game. There is a closed beta 31st January even no NDA. I am a bit in anticipation mood.

I've no expectations in 2019 except for one game by Dontnod. Might look into Anno.

I have to admit, I liked Remember Me, and I like LiS, but I'd love to play another Remember Me style game from them. Open beta in April for Anno 1800. Never played any of the Anno games before the 1800 beta this past weekend. I got a bit hooked on it.

I LOVED Anno 1404 and also enjoyed 2070 quite a bit. Haven't gotten round to 2205 yet, want to play it despite the bad reviews. Once I have, I'll get 1800 for sure too. They ARE very addictive and time consuming games. 8 hours can pass in the blink of an eye, which is why I used to play them during my two weeks Christmas break. Unlike most people I don't care too much about the strategy part. I just want to build pretty cities, so I set it to easy without hazards.

Ooh, I'm totally going to do that (when the next beta happens in april). I wonder if I can disable the other AI and just have a peaceful world to make perfect Admittedly, I never played any of the other Anno games, but 1800 is certainly beautiful and I will definitely be buying it... and now that you've given me the idea to try to play it sort of like Sim City or Cities Skylines, I'm looking forward to it even more.

You'd attack enemy assets and woop outa nowhere they would insta respawn right on top of you. Kinda ruined it. Still OK for just the sim part, but then again, 1404 made all the parts better.
I skipped the last one hearing there would be no combat and hoped this time would be a bit like 1404 again. And my hope still prevails for I spot a bit of that love to detail again. Usually you can pick quite docile AI that doesn't bother you much. Don't forget you can also trade with them - is not all competition but markets to explore, too.

Considering how AWFUL combat was to me, that's a plus for 2205.

Looks just like naval combat is again integrated into the overall gameplay on the map. No sightings of ground forces yet. Not sure if Anno really needs them.

So is out now. Preliminary impression: Worth it. If you've play Anno 1404 - This game plays like that tradition. Minus land armies. Plus New World - the new culture with alternative building tree is now moved off to another new map. Miniquests, naval combat, hostile takeovers - that's all kept. Looks like the item system was expanded.
Game plays like a breeze so far while coasting minspec. If you're looking for a relaxing city builder with advanced complexity consider this. Has some future expansions planned and is season passed, personally I might look at some arctic stuff they want to include but I dont usually buy season passes. The game as is - it makes a pretty complete package.

I've been playing a fair bit of builder games and prod chain managers. But they all lacked the soundtrack to hum and sing to while I plop down malteries and breweries. I renew my recommendation. Some negatives are slight balance issues - they drink a LOT of rum. A bit of pathfinding woes wheen your ships wander off. The lack of a overview about consumption to gauge production and diplomacy. Now excuse me while I go back to build my bastion to and from the New World.

5 years later, Anno 1800 has grown a lot. The music is great, and many of the dlc added useful buffs or features. It’s almost too easy now really. I still enjoy it.
