Oh... I have a bad feeling about this. Don't like it one bit. For starters, this announcement is not worth a stupid god knows how many hours strem in which nothing but a bunch of random shit every hour or so happened. Not a Fallout 5, nor TES VI is worth that. The "clues" meant nothing, they were just doing random shit to troll the audience. Way to go Bethesda *sarcastic clap* All that just to show some dumb 1:30 mins trailer and tell us "more at E3 bahahahaha" . What type of lobotomised monkey is in charge of their marketing department? or they just come up with ideas whilst they're high?
The trailers says something about rebuilding? No something heavily focused on settlement stuff again with that terrible and not intuitive UI... for the love of god. Shitaku says it's on-line something type of game? HELL NO, I'd love to say Bethesda Game Studios is not that stupid, but honestly I'm scared. If it was an on-line game, wouldn't it be better to be done by Zenimax who also did TESO? why BGS? they have no experience whatsoever in that, they only ever made single player RPGs.

So a Fallout multiplayer? Hmmm. Would that mean the player can play as mutant? How about as a deathclaw? That might interest me.
Come on remastered Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas announcement.

So I'm getting the vibe that it's gonna be a Fallout Survival type game. Someone said it in here I think and I've seen it elsewhere looking around now as well. It would make sense since it's the same engine as fallout 4 and the building mechanics and such would all be in place.
Since it's a vault that's supposed to open just 20 years after the bombs, maybe it's like a you explore the "new world" and have to set up settlements or A settlement to "reclaim" the area post bombs.
I liked the building aspect of FO4, so I wouldn't necessarily be against that but I'd definitely want there to be story and quests and such involved in it unlike Ark or Conan Exiles (I had fun with the latter, but it got old quickly).

Not sure how I feel about this. A multiplayer Fallout experience is interesting, but I am not sure if I want to delve into that. I need to see more. BTW, thanks for posting the trailer and other tidbits folks, appreciate it

IF this is a MP shooter I hope it's PvE. Iiiiiif so, a ME3MP style of gameplay against the critters of the wasteland could be fun.
I would give it a shot if reviews are good. My friends are far less thrilled and will not buy any type of online shooter.
Currently I'm a bit worried Bethesda is slowly moving away from SP games too. If Fallout 76 has a lootbox system of any kind I will cry. I REALLY hope this game isn't the big E3 announcement. I desperately want Starfield news, ANY news on that to reassure me that another traditional Bethesda exploration is coming soon.
I am really curious about Fallout 76. I honestly thought it would be a simple rerelease of FO3. Not sure this is better or worse...

While I can't say an online Fallout has me particularly excited, I am curious to see what the hell it actually is. And why. How does this fit in with the 2 new IPs they said they were working on? Is this pushing back the next ES even longer?

Is this pushing back the next ES even longer? Can't say, although I partly feel that this Fallout 76 thing almost feels like a 'spur of the moment' deal that was whipped up in a relatively small amount of time. I surely hope it doesn't push back another ES game.

If vault 76 is indeed a multiplayer game, then I really hope that:
1) We can play co-operatively in a PvE environment. PvP tends to suck the more fun and asymmetrical aspects out of these games for the sake of balance, so I would hope to avoid that as much as possible. Something more structured than a pure survival game like Conan Exiles or ARK, but also not a mini-MMO with players grinding through zones to level up their characters.
2) A slight extension of the first point, but if this is really an online multiplayer game then I would like to have the option of playing as someone/something other than just another vault dweller and I would want those choices to have an actual impact on gameplay. Really, a FPS/TPS version of Fallout: Tactics would be amazing here. In that game you could make a character who was a Ghoul, Super Mutant, Robot, Deathclaw, or even a dog if you wanted, and that was in addition to the regular human archetypes. Those different 'racial' choices provided different advantages and disadvantages based on your choice, with humans being the best overall pick for a 'jack of all trades' play style.

When vats is your best chance at being accurate, that doesn't really make for a good MP shooter.

Is this pushing back the next ES even longer? Pretty sure it doesn't affect at all none of their projects in any significant fashion. It uses the same engine and graphical fidelity, and it's supposedly done by the studio in Maryland and the former Battlecry studios (can't remember the new name), so actual BGS is not involved on it. __________ The guy at Kotaku also said on twitter that if people expect this to be a traditional single player RPG, they're gonna be VERY disappointed. This is looking grimmer by the minute... It sounds as if the on-line component will be forced upon the player, rather than an addition or an optional component.

When vats is your best chance at being accurate, that doesn't really make for a good MP shooter. I know!!! This is why the whole thing had me raise an eyebrow. What engine is this going to be running on? The same old one?? An online shooter would need good fluid combat and while FO4 was totally fine for me as a SP shooter, not sure that's going to cut it. Even if they hired super skilled animators, on THAT engine I'm not sure you can work that big a miracle... So I'm kind of intrigued how Bethesda pulled that off if it's anything remotely close to our speculation. I never played TESO, so I can't compare how much they improved the combat over clunky vanilla Skyrim. So call me interested if: - ME3MP kind of fun diverse kits to choose from in PvE gameplay (vault as shopping hub, otherwise maps/no open world - MMO type of base building where everyone can visit your settlement and trade with you - shared world 4 player co-op like Anthem with lots of cool places to explore (kinda like FO4, just with friends and vague story) I've never played an MMO in my life and normally wouldn't touch that ever. But I like the idea of people visiting my settlements... so I would consider it under these very particular circumstances. Old school map shooter sounds like the cheapest and also the best option imo. As said by others, let us choose to play synths or ghouls. Give us crazy flashy upgrades, stupid fun weapons. Actually, that sounds damn NICE!

Graphical fidelity is the same as in FO4, plus the game is being released relatively soon compared to FO4 which is a clear indicator this is a spin off of sorts. They might have more modules in the engine to support some sort of on-line (remember that C.Engine is a glorified Morrowind engine with more modules so it can support more modern stuff life volumetric lightning). However, you're right, I doubt this engine with more modules or not is good enough for a traditional MP game. Something smaller might just work, but barely.

The idea that this is likely just a spinoff gives me hope that at least Fallout isn't destroyed. Forced multiplayer for THIS title is an absolute no-no for me.

So it raises questions like - Was this game in their long-term plans all along, or is this Bethesda quickly shifting gears to try and capture a hot market right now (Battle Royale, etc.)?

Kotaku - Sources: Fallout: 76 Is An Online Survival RPGkotaku.com/sources-fallout-76-is-an-online-survival-rpg-1826425333 Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout: 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said. It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs like Skyrim. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015's Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources. One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online “service” games, but that’s the core outline.
Fallout: 76 is in development not just at Bethesda Game Studios’ main office, in Maryland, where the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4 were made, but also at the company’s newest branch, in Austin, according to our sources.

Wasn't that studio opened last year? Both Montreal and Maryland were the new studios to be introduced to the family, they made an announcement and everything. They probably saw the success of FO4 and went ahead to plan some sort of spin off (as this thing seems to be). Remember in that last/new Interview with Todd Howard (can't remember the name of the site), he mentioned they had a new animation system, and before switching to that system they had one project that will use the old animations still. It could be this one. Ultimately, in the grand scheme of things, I don't think this game is going to push back other projects, and I still think BGS will reveal a proper game made by them at E3.

Quests, story, building, plus survival and MP mechanics. Which doesn't sound horribly bad if you stop there.
The only thing I don't get is the "rapidly changing" portion of it. What's an example game that's like this?
