...The only thing I don't get is the "rapidly changing" portion of it. What's an example game that's like this? Anthem? Fallout 76 - Vault dwellers leave a vault to fight shit in a dangerous, ever-changing, co-operative online environment. Anthem - Freelancers leave a fort to fight shit in a dangerous, ever-changing, co-operative online environment. Shit. That's not an "ever changing environment" that's a mmo mob fest with zero story. Oh well. lol

If it state of decay where buddies can join in that’s fine but if its an mmo where you walk by tons of offline 76’s like eso then it would be awful

Why the gaming industry suddenly looks like Marvel comics? Just a bunch of clueless devs who keep making deliberatly bad design decisions that turn the entire fandom against them. Fallout 76 seem be recieving lots of negative reactions out there ever since they revealed it will be a online game.

I wouldn't be nearly as pissed if they just revealed the thing normally instead of dicking around with a stupid pointless 8 hour stream that revealed nothing. I would still be a bit salty about an on line Fallout, but I wouldn't be annoyed. And what is with the 2 weeks away teaser? I think they revealed Fallout 4 one week before E3, and that was an actual new game.

A deep story would make it different, though deep stories is not exactly Bethesda's strength...

Because everyone knows what would have made Fallout 4 a better game was more emphasis on generic FPS combat, settlement building, radial quests about killing mobs in your settlements, and less emphasis on story/rpg and more emphasis on dealing with shitty humans in a multi player setting. Duh.

Developers are always in the shit position that trying something different makes their core fan base freak out because people don't like change. That doesn't mean they shouldn't try new things. They certainly have the right to do so. It's THEIR risk, not really yours. You can decide to simply not buy that product. I'll be cautiously optimistic until we know more, same as with Anthem. As long as Bethesda doesn't abandon their still very successful SP RPG formula, delivering something different in between is fine by me. If I happen to not like it, that's ok. That's my problem and not an indication that the developer did bad, unless the majority hates it. Even then that's not the end of the world. Just do better next time.

I actually interpreted the "rapidly changing" as the source saying the game design wasn't set in stone yet and the gameplay was going to evolving until the game release. And going by the "other online service game", I think that person meant it's going to be an half-finish early access title with no direction.

Kotaku - Sources: Fallout: 76 Is An Online Survival RPGkotaku.com/sources-fallout-76-is-an-online-survival-rpg-1826425333Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout: 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said. It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs like Skyrim. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015's Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources. One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online “service” games, but that’s the core outline.
Fallout: 76 is in development not just at Bethesda Game Studios’ main office, in Maryland, where the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4 were made, but also at the company’s newest branch, in Austin, according to our sources.
Shit... Remember that "freemium" (as in "free to dowlnoad, pay to play" ) game Bethesda was supposedly working on? Could this be it? Possibly, but I believe that game is being done by their Montreal studio.

Bethesda main franchises, namely elder scrolls and Fallout have aways been known for the singleplayer RPG focus, and are also beloved for it. I bet a Fallout set in the moon would have gotten a way better reception then this one. The only reason the reveal trailer is not filled with dislikes is because most people aren't even aware of what this game is about. And yes, it's their risk. But I - and other players - are the one that pay the price. Because if this game is just a boring flop, I miss what could have been otherwise a perfectly enjoyable game that I could spend my time with. Of course, I have no crystal ball, and only time will tell. But if we go by recent games that were completely fucked over by "attempts to renovate", then things sure look grim.

Whoa dude, generally I am the first person to shit on a new Bethesda game (mostly because it is Bethesda and Bethesda games aren't all that great) but don't you think it is a little early to start crying just because there are rumours that it will be an online game? Personally I would say see what the game is first before you go handing out judgement and while it may be something different from what they usually do different isn't always bad.

It was a bit of a waste to have an overtly long and basically pointless stream just to drop a teaser such as this. IMO, they should've just released it instead of drawing in the masses and having them watch whatever the hell that livestream was.

While John Denver's Country Roads is a classic sing-a-long song that I like, it seems to " sound " out of place because it came out in 1971. That is my minor pet peeve.
Otherwise I am slightly hyped like I always am concerning a Fallout game. A new direction for the game might be a risk but I am keeping an open mind until more info is released and until I have tried it myself. Which is what I do for any new game that has my interest. ( some titles/developers having more credit than others. )

OK "online survival RPG" inspired by Rust and DayZ does not sound so great anymore to me personally. Never played those. Unless the game lets me build whatever I want with mods anywhere on the map... I dunno what to think right now.
First Creation Club, now they'll probably sell new gear and skins through it in Fallout 76. Guess there is no resisting that kind of money...
STILL, it's all about how they do it. How much fun that game turns out to be. So let's wait and see what Bethesda's spin on that business model is.

Personally, hell will freeze over before I like that style.

Not after the kind of success they had with 4. They have to know that giving people more where that came from is basically a license to print money at this point. They might have miscalculated how eager people are to throw their money at something as long as it has the Fallout branding and setting, however. What most people truly want is a new Fallout with the same type of formula as before, though YMMV on how much you either want them to keep to it as is with a more streamlined shooter approach or for them to revert to the more traditional RPG trappings of earlier titles. A big sandbox RPG to explore with (hopefully) interesting quests and characters and that Fallout charm. But nobody was clamoring for whatever this is.

Well I can only say one thing: If it's multiplayer (or even worst, an MMO), co-op or "Semi Sort Of Single Player With Everyone Online", then I'm out.. Not going to buy it, ever...
I am a pure Single Player (yes I tried MP and still regret every minute of it). And while I like the Fallout games, I never ever will buy or play "Fallout Online", blech...

Obviously, the Fallout franchise is no longer what it used to be ever since the first game launched. But do we really to bastardize the series further? We already took away skills, multiple dialogue options, and oversimplified dialogue checks. Do we really need to add multiplayer to that mix? I didn't even loved Fallout 4. I thought it was a potentially great game squandered by poor choices that made it an inferior product. And now it's happening all over again with insult added to injury. And... yes. They do own me a proper Fallout game. Just like anyone else that cares about the franchise. We are the ones that buy their stuff and make sure there is food in the table. In a business, you pander to your consumer base, not turn them against you. I'm not expecting New Vegas 2.0. Not being kicked in the balls would be good enough.

I am sure we could cry over all the hypothetical games that could have been made if developers decided to go in a different direction but honestly that is a lot of fucking games and honestly even if the game that did get made did not get made there is no guarantee that the hypothetical game we wanted would have been made in it's place, besides unless we are making the games ourselves it is not our place to decide which games do and do not get made, the only decision we can make is "does this game that currently exists appeal to me and do I wish to purchase a copy"? Obviously, the Fallout franchise is no longer what it used to be ever since the first game launched. But do we really to bastardize the series further? We already took away skills, multiple dialogue options, and oversimplified dialogue checks. Do we really need to add multiplayer to that mix? I didn't even loved Fallout 4. I thought it was a potentially great game squandered by poor choices that made it an inferior product. And now it's happening all over again with insult added to injury. You are free to hate the latest incarnation of the Fallout series and if this new Fallout game sucks you are free to hate that as well, however I do think it is a little short sighted to be passing judgement on a game based on little more than rumour and speculation. Sure there is a chance that the new game might suck but there is also a chance that the new angle is just what the Fallout series needs, can't really know until we see more. And... That really isn't how things work, just because you bought a previous game in the series does not mean they are beholden to you to craft the games you want for all eternity. The way it works is they make the game they want to make and you decide whether or not you want to play that game and make your purchasing decision based on that. They are not required to make the game you want to play and you are not required to purchase it, your relationship with Bethesda exists purely on a game by game basis and if they stop producing the content you want to see then you stop purchasing that content. Now if we are arguing from a business point of view on whether it is smarter to create content that your current consumer base wants to see or whether it is smarter to strike out and do something different to attract a new more profitable audience then maybe you could argue it would be wiser to stick with their current audience, but in no way do Bethesda owe you or any of their other fans anything and if they want to go in a new direction that is entirely their prerogative.

Didn't they confirm it already that this is an online game? For the info we are getting, you can't even play it on singleplayer mode alone at all. They do own us if they want to make money. Were is the profit in an alienated fanbase? They are free to do what they want, but the freedom to fail doesn't sound very appealing. If you really want to see a game franchise that properly renovated and tried new things, try God of War and Metro Exodus.
