blog.bioware.com/2018/12/06/thedreadwolfrises/A Message From Mark Darrah & Matthew Goldman – The Dread Wolf Rises by Author -Mark Darrah Posted on - Dec 6 2018 Hey everyone,
We have been working on a new Dragon Age™ game for quite a while now and I am pleased to finally tease the existence of this project!
While we won’t be sharing any details for now, I can tell you we have been building a new team around a core of Dragon Age veterans, people I’ve worked with on Dragon Age, Jade Empire™, and some of whom I’ve worked with since the Baldur’s Gate days. While I have been focused on Anthem™, the rest of the team has been hard at work exploring ways to push BioWare’s storytelling to the next level.
I’m so excited to show you more!
Mark Darrah, Executive Producer
Making players into heroes of their own stories has been my real-life quest since Baldur’s Gate.
Over the years I’ve taken on increasing challenges: building vast living worlds, devising fun party-based combat and illustrating fantastic stories. Now, I’m honored and excited to continue BioWare’s rich legacy of colorful companions, romance and epic choices in my favorite fantasy franchise.
We’ve gathered our strongest team yet and are venturing forth on the most epic quest ever!
Matthew Goldman, Creative Director

I'm so hyped tonight I've read this short blog entry like fifteen times.
I can't even imagine the final count until we get more news. I'll be able to recite every word.

My favourite Matt Goldman story starts around thirty-three minutes into this amazing panel video. (The whole thing is well worth watching.) I could not be delighted that he's the new Creative Director.

The DA2 lyrium idol...there's some old lore theorycrafting to dig up. I do wonder if it’s all connected: the Evanuris, the Veil, the Old Gods (referenced possibly/likely by the 7 semi spheres around the idol), Red lyrium. Given that the plot will focus a lot on Solas and its quest, I expect some other big reveals to happen. On Matt, I’m happy that the role was taken by a BioWare and Dragon Age veteran.

I remember David Gaider writing some forum post in the old BSN , someone posted about the DA2 Thaig. It was about the strange elven loot, and D. Gaider said , yes it was put there on purpose. Trespasser confirmed the elves went underground and mess with the dwarves, lyrium, and Titans. As for the old God, Mythal was after their soul and she was really concerned about the Blight.
So I'd say yes everything seems to go back to the old elven time when something big happened. Solas was able to reshape the world with the veil one time. The Evanuris were as powerful as him so who knows what they did back in the day?
At this point I'm pretty sure the Golden City was part of Arlathan. If we don't find out about the Golden City in DA4, I'm bursting several blood vessels.

My favorite theory is that the Old Gods are the Forgotten Ones, as both were trapped underground. Mi Their numbers are not the same, if I recall, but the elven myths were completely wrong on the true nature of their gods and the ancient elven civilization, so they might be able to collide the two myths together. Though I doubt it’ll be like this.

Okay he just said NEW TEAM. Brah, they better watch every little move these guys make. HYPE IS GONE, SKEPTICISM IS ON. Mark said on the blog that the team is composed mostly of veterans from DA, JE and BG. The leads are people that worked on DA for years. If the reason to be skeptic is only about the team composition, it doesn’t seem to be warranted.

I saw the trailer at work. I watched it about six times on break and my boss (jokingly) accused me of hogging the company wifi. I immediately blew up my boyfriend's phone over it. Gah, I'm so excited!! I need to start replaying some stuff to hold me over.

Their numbers are not the same, if I recall It is not clear how many Forgotten Ones there were/are. We have been given the names of 3 of them but that doesn't mean there weren't more, simply that their names have been forgotten by the Dalish. From what I recall we didn't get their names from Dalish Keepers but other sources. It was Felassan, an ancient elf, who identified one of them as Anaris; Daern'thal was mentioned in a codex about an item and Gelduran was giving his views on the elven gods in a codex in JoH. So there could have been others. It would make sense really for them to be an equal number to the Creators, hence the reason the battle between them was so evenly balanced that, according to the Dalish, both sides were willing to call a brief truce whilst he negotiated. Whilst the Dalish story of the war between the gods may not be entirely accurate, nor do I think it was wholly wrong. Gelduran shared the view of Solas that the Creators were not really gods. Clearly at some time he had been banished by them or fled from their influence. According to the codex in the Temple of Mythal the Forgotten Ones hung out in the Void. Whilst the Dalish claim that Fen'Harel was able to safely walk in the camps of both sets of gods. Could this be because he didn't go there physically but contacted them via the Fade? If the number of Forgotten Ones corresponded to the number of original Evanuris (7) since Ghilan'nain and Solas were late additions to the pantheon and subordinates to two of the original gods, then it is entirely possible that the theory about the discs around the circle containing the idol are correct and they are connected in some way to maintaining the Veil and keeping the Evanuris imprisoned. Solas says that foci were a means of channelling power, so if each of the Forgotten Ones had one, may be all 7 were required to power the spell, with Solas providing the central focus. Then just as Solas fell into a millennia long slumber to recover his strength, so did the Forgotten Ones. Hence the old god dragons seemingly being in hibernation. It would certainly explain why Solas was beside himself at the prospect of the Grey Wardens seeking to kill the last two old gods if they were all that is left of the team that imprisoned the Evanuris and he was not yet strong enough to face his old enemies. However, there are a few problems with this theory: He claims that if Corypheus had died as he should, Solas intended recovering his orb and tearing down the Veil. He made it sound like he would have done this straight away but he was still weak, so that would make no sense. So may be all that was required was to unlock the orb and there would have been a time delay anyway before he felt ready to put the next stage of his plan into action. Darkspawn are drawn to the location of the old god by its song, which the Grey Wardens can also hear. This suggests that the old god is already an arch-demon before the darkspawn reach it as it is a corrupted song that they hear. In which case, it is more likely that the corrupted dragons are the split soul other half of each of the remaining Evanuris/Creators and Solas imprisoned them in the Deep Roads at the same time as he shut their other half behind a barrier in the Golden City. That being the case, the discs around the circle may simply be representative that only two of these dragons are still alive. If they were killed and their souls allowed to return to the originator in the Fade, may be that would give the Evanuris the required power to break free of their prison without action from Solas. In this scenario it was the Evanuris whispering to the Magisters from the Fade, encouraging them to go to the Golden City to start the process that would lead to their release. The dragons were already infected with red lyrium before being shut in the Deep Roads and it was the desire of the Evanuris to use red lyrium as a weapon and Mythal forbidding it, that led to her murder.
