Speaking of BioWare Romances. Can we all agree that we would like to see them stop with the kisses being shown from the back of the players head-thus not something anything even close to a kiss actually happening on screen? I mean the back of Jaal's head is a work of art no doubt, but I want to see the lips smooshing. I'm glad we got that in the steamest bit of the lake scene, but so many romances have those angles that show nothing at all in kisses. stop censoring the kisses, specially in lgbtq romances, almost every time the kiss gets censored by an arm or some lame perspective view

They really show very little of the actual kiss. Mostly out of focus and yes again the back of the player characters head.

I really hope our dear leakers are right and they took notes from MEA m/m fiasco. We gotta wait 3 years minimum and that KILLS ME

Jesus fucking Christ, not this crap again. Funny enough, in the conversation about what constitutes good LGBT representation, the components of a good RPG aren't really relevant. Funny enough, in your own words this thread was about potential Dragon Age 4 romances in general, and not just LGBT representation:
As far as how good RPG mechanics versus rigidly structured plots and characters affect romance arcs, I would argue they can become very relevant. Imagine you are romancing Companion A, when halfway through the game, he does something you find unacceptable. Maybe he's a mole, maybe he needlessly sacrifices innocents, maybe he tries opposing or usurping your position, hell maybe he simply revels beliefs and/or personality traits that you just can't stand. Any combination of those, or anything else. Suppose this turn is so bad that simply breaking up and avoiding him is not enough, you want to cut him out of your life, organization, and quest completely. But you can't, because that character's writer decided that their ego was more important than your enjoyment of the game. Considering that most sports and sports talk bore me to tears, I have to laugh and remember what happens when you assume . I admit that I have misconstrued, over analyzed and/or not properly thought out my initial posts, and for that I apologize. However, I have never opposed LGBT characters in of themselves. I want good, complex and three dimensional gay, lesbian, bi, ace, demi, poly and everything under the sun characters. Any objections I had had nothing to do with orientation and everything to do with respecting player choice, and the desire to maintain DA's dark and realistic tone instead of devolving into mere wish fulfillment. Which I also maintain should be true of each and every straight character.
Looking back, I see it was stupid of me to try and have two completely different conversations that had nothing to do with each other. So, sorry. That said, it was wrong of you to try to strawman me as some kind of bigot, just because I disagreed on something completely unrelated to character orientations. You're better than that.

I would like an (Orlesian) KISA, but none of this '' oh i'm so shy and inept when it comes to romance ehehehh uwuwuwu '' but more like, gentlemanly, princely, charming and chivalrous instead. Maybe a tiny bit of awkwardness if it's a must, but I want to be thoroughly courted please.

Anyway, another type of romance I would like to explore is related to an overall tone I would prefer to see in Dragon Age 4. Considering how Companion arcs have lost much of Origins' complexity (Hardening and Softening both having positive and negative traits), I want a Love Interest where the so-called "good" choices lead to the worst possible outcome. In Origins, idealism could be noble, but it could also be foolish and unrealistic. Likewise, pragmatic could be ruthless, but also actually get things done. Hell, the "Renegade" choice in Alistair's quest was to get him to grow up. It would be nice to see a more realistic story where being diplomatic and trusting gets them stabbed in the back, whereas taking a harsher stance gains more long term stability.
How would this work specifically for romance quests, as opposed to regular Companion Quests? Maybe loving someone outside their group gets them excommunicated, maybe they have to break the heart of a rival who is just as good for them, maybe they're not ready for how hard romancing the protagonist truly is, any number of things.

Microtransactions sure are a convenient reason to want to see games with LGBT characters go away. I am against obvious pandering which dilutes a story, I am not against LGTB characters Even if you may think it is the same thing for whatever your reasons, that is YOUR fault, not mine. Hmmm, curious. Because to my eyes, The Witcher series (since you are heaping praise on CDPR) has loads of "obvious pandering"...... to straight men. But then again, you are the target of said pandering, to the point where you likely don't even see it as pandering and you think it enhances the game instead of "diluting" it the way pandering to people who are not like you does "dilute" a game's story.... But anyways, I will leave that here and debate it no further. There was lip smooshing, though...... In the Scott/Cora romance of course!!!!! That scene had more time and attention put into it than half of the game combined. Lmao.

Ya, I was thinking the Liam Kiss scene which is het totally had his arm covering it and this issue was not reserved just for gay characters.
I like to bang video game characters a lot, but I'd rather have excellent hand holding animations WAAY over awesome kiss animations. My favorite part of Cass romance was the ambiance and the hand holding in the repeat kiss scene. I got a LOT out of holding Thane's hands at the coffee table.

So I bought Kingdom Come: Deliverance over the weekend. Fun game, really interesting mechanics here. Kinda like Skyrim with more realism. It's really unforgiving, you need a certain potion to save the game. The only autosaves are at mission checkpoints and when you exit the game itself. I can't stress this enough, in so many ways, the game really doesn't hold your hand at all. If the solution for a problem was communicated to you verbally, you actually need to remember it because the quest log won't. If you need to tell someone how many people you saw at x, you do actually need to remember how many there were. Unlike Skyrim, you can't just put every quest on hold to do something else, there are time restrictions (that are not always explicit, you need to actually think if it's urgent). That kind of stuff. The PC is predefined as straight, which tbh I'm fine with. He's kind of cute for a medieval Czech blacksmith's apprentice, maybe he'd find good money if he finds a certain Hunter . Oddly reminds me of Alistair, a bit less dweebish but a little more prone to violence. Oh, and he tends to smell a bit haha - there's even a perk for smelling 'manlier' that gives you speech advantages with women but reduces your stealth coz everyone can smell your stink. Anyways, regarding romances er ... I wasn't expecting quite what happened. I'm so used to BioWare style romances that I was kind of shocked There's this wife of a nobleman you meet fairly early on. Long story short, you help her with basically a fetch quest. You return the items and then she asks you to try on a shirt, which you have no choice in except whether to do it in front of her or outside.
If you try the shirt on in front of her, you kiss her and then realise "oh shit". She says it's fine, you continue kissing then move onto the bed for some fade to black pg-13 banging. I was kind of expecting a little more warning and a last chance to actually abort, but I guess it's in the style of the game. Turns out there's an achievement for staying a virgin throughout the game. So once that whole shebang happened and I found out about the achievement, I thought "Fuck it, might as well whore around". The going rate is 40 gold pieces for the bath house girls. So basically, BioWare bring back brothels, but please let's have some m/m and f/f options.

Bioware, please add some "self love" to the game! Maybe a bottle of slippery salve the PC keeps next the bed that you can interact with XD

You know who I really wanted to bang through every run of Inquisition? The new Orlesian quartermaster with his breaking voice. I kept picturing my inquisitor asking him over to his quarters one evening, before proceeding to question him 'in-depth' on the logistics involved in supplying Skyhold.

Yeah, and that's still got nothing to do with your ideal RPG or anyone else's. There are some people in here who want LGBT love interests to be compulsory party members, just like straight ones have been in DA:O and DA:I. They're talking about their wishes regarding romance content, therefore: relevant. Complaining about the content of same-sex romances being stereotypical or offensive is also relevant When you say that NO characters should be compulsory because RPGs should maximise player freedom, that has nothing to do with romance content.

So here’s a follow up question for the thread: Which was your single favorite romance option in a BioWare game and why? And, if the character is bisexual, what gender was your PC? For me, it was Kaidan with MShep, which I explained a few pages earlier. A major character in the story; emotional and believable dialogue; they weren’t afraid to show genuine affection between two men (likely because it was dialogue written for FemShep, but, hey, I’ll take what I can get); and on a superficial level, he’s hot and his voice is sexy. Toss up between Iron Bull and Kaidan with M!Shep. I played as a male with both. I enjoyed Iron Bull immensely, because from a physical standpoint, big beefy guys always get my juices flowing. I just loved his story arc, and I really enjoyed the take on a dom/sub relationship. For Kaidan, he's hot and sexy (as you mentioned), but I really enjoyed going on the entire Mass Effect journey with him. It was a hell of a slow burn, but totally worth the wait.
