I'd prefer not, given the utter saturation of all things superhero-related which has dominated mainstream entertainment for the last few years. It's alienated me from cinema, and I'd end up alienated from games if they all went the same way (Brandon Sanderson's Reckoners series excepted, that would be awesome). If I were given the choice I'd plump for some kind of film noir-based detective RPG, which downplayed gun battles and supercharged action in favour of a tightly-plotted story that focused on detective work, narrative, exploration and discovery.... but that's just me. There's probably not much call for games of that nature. La noir did fairly well I think and while it had action is kind of like what you are describing. I don’t think BioWare could write a tightly plotted story if given 100 years though. The dialogue and characters might be solid the plot not so much. It would fit my plot requirements but that is a low low threshold.

I can accept that Anthem is not for me. I am also not obligated to buy it and support it. I hope it does well so that Bioware is still around to make the games I like but I also hope it doesn't do too well because then EA might decide that is all bioware should work on. Yeah I'm kind of on this fence too I don't care at all for Anthem it looks good an fun but I don't really care because I don't do MP or MMO's but at the same time I don't want EA pulling the plug on Bioware by it failing but at the same time I don't want EA converting Bioware into a massive MMO studio because it did a little too well. As I want them to continue to produce games like ME and DA because they are the series at leas t for me that have put Bioware on my map. Yeah EA and bioware say that they still want to support the ME and DA franchises but only time will tell.

Neither superheroes nor detectives appeal to me, to be honest, but I wish there were more imaginative fantasy RPGs, ones that aren't D&D derivative to start with.

I'm sci-fi oriented, which is why I am psyched about Cyberpunk 2077. I actually love cyberpunk. In any case, though I really enjoyed Dragon Age, I loved Mass Effect.
I've always been a comic fan but I'm not sure how it would play out in an RPG. I have played text-based superhero RPGs where you had a lot of freedom in what you do but also a lack of resolution. There's no real goal. It was fun but ultimately where nowhere. Beyond that, I can't see much in the way of a graphical RPG working. It would have to be something very specific, like Spider-Man fighting his enemies or the X-Men fighting theirs. Games like that exist but they're not RPGs.
Detectives...eh. I'm playing "Call of Cthulhu" right now. It's horror but you're a detective. The choices are minor and it mostly involves sneaking around. It's not an RPG. I imagine a non-supernatural RPG would still largely require sneaking around.
I've been doing a search for "real" RPG. Fallout 1 was mentioned. I'd forgotten that. Bought it when it was new. Baldur's Gate was called "close". Space Station 13. The games are out there. Most of what is called RPG today isn't based on the standards of a couple decades ago.

Some classes of superpower would be nightmarish to animate -- no way we'd ever see growth/shrinking based supers with any variability in size, for instance-- but lots of others could be handled through fairly generic VFX and standard HTH combat animations.

So apparently Anthem isn't doing well at all. While I dont care about Anthem the game itself I do worry that an Anthem flop could kill bioware and kill the ME and DA franchises.

If EA's earnings, in general, continue to slump, Bioware and any of their other developer studios appear to the be first on EA's chopping block... So, anything's possible; and our selection of different games is what's going to suffer.

In 2015, SWTOR made pass $1 bill for EA. Games like SWTOR and Anthem survive on cosmetic microtransactions with time. It's not like the singleplayer games where the revenue are only calculable on release. If anything, I'm hoping with MP's focus completely on Anthem; future ME and DA should remove the entirety of MP elements and only be SP-exclusive titles.

Someone taking a developer's quote completely out of context to validate complaining about it I agree. If you really read it what it says is that you can get endings A, B and C but that there are lots of little decisions the factor in, presumably to the slideshows. Krogan alive and thriving with Wrex and Eve? Krogan preparing for war with Wreav and no Eve? The rachni overrunning Tuchanka? Tiny little things but there are variables.
