Aside from the fact that I have been playing and enjoying their games for a few decades now, BioWare scratches a specific gameplay itch I have. Third person sci fi (or fantasy) action with character creation and dialogue options and a choose your own adventure feel to it with memorable characters who are integral to your adventure.
Even though Anthem lessens the dialogue and companions aspect, the gameplay is there and looks stronger than ever. I will play most of it solo, but I've got a family and work six to seven days a week so not much time for joining a regular group.
And yes BioWare can't always just be the Mass Effect and Dragon Age studio. Always good to diversify things.

People were hype about the new IP, until it was revealed to not be a single player RPG. Something we've come to expect from Bioware, something we've come to expect Bioware to be a decent, if not great producer of. I remember when people were speculating that the new IP would be a modern age superhero RPG. Now THAT would have been fun. |

The thing I like about Bioware games is, even though the overall story may not change as much, the constructions of different paths through it is fun, interesting, and engrossing. Who gets betrayed, who survives, who falls in love, etc - these are things I enjoy changing in replays. I very much enjoyed that with Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises (weirdly DA2 a LOT). SW:TOR pretty much has none of that - just a bunch of different stories that converge, and the "fun" part is using different abilities and equipment, and I just NEVER understood the loot draw for games like Diablo, and Destiny.
Anthem sounds like it is heading in that latter loot-hunt direction.

I think Anthem reminds me of Shattered Steel, which may not be what BioWare is known for, but being their first game is part of their roots. |

He has a proven track record when it comes to insider information and has put his credibility on the line several times for his claims. He was right about no MEA DLC, he was right that Anthem was a loot shooter, and he's almost certainly right about DA4 being rebooted for live-service shenanigans.
He was also the one who let the cat out of the bag about Fallout 76. No one could have guessed that.

I think interest aside they are doing something brilliant for Anthem. Creating a brand new IP instead of redesigning an exisisting one. That way anyone who can play Anthem can and those who have no interest don't have to.
