Welcome... to Schmooples' Den!
As discussion around Dragon Age is picking up, we felt it was a good time to have a general chat thread for all things Dragon Age that don't warrant their own thread.
Spin-off discussions from the Twitter Thread? - This is the place! Fan art & videos you'd like to share? - This is the place!
Going forward, we'd like to restrict posts on the Twitter Thread to Tweets & DA News only. Discussions about those Tweets can be made either here or in a new thread for the bigger topics.
We understand it'll take some time before we all settle into the new discussion thread, so no worries. There'll just be some gentle nudging (& post moving) over the next few weeks. And if our regulars can help out some of our newer members, that would fantastic!
Also, just a friendly reminder that all the BSN Forum Rules & Copyright Rules still apply.

Not sure whatβs the problem then? If we read the book and gain additional insight that we then want to at least partially implant in our Inky... we can just headcanon that additional conversations with Leli or her spies had occurred. It ainβt that complicated. That wasn't the argument you literally just quoted/made. You said, "my characters wouldn't know it anyway, therefore the novels are unnecessary." I just gave three examples of information your character should know but they are: ignored entirely (the Templar Order slaughtering Mage Enchanters wholesale which caused the war), rehashed and submitted as new knowledge (re: tranquility), or minimalized to a minor event barely mentioned (re: Halamshiral Massacre). This isn't about Roleplay for me, this is about important information about the characters and events of a game world that should be IN the game world.

Information is power, especially in Orlais. If sheβd been a Marcher or Fereldan, perhaps she would have shared that information with this random stranger. But Brialaβs not going to suddenly forget all her instincts for the Game just because she got betrayed. If anything, that seems like an excellent reason to lock everything down.
Also she still loves her. So add a heaping scoop of denial on top of all that.

I'll admit some of this comes from my bias that if Bioware really wanted to show how progressive they are with LGBTQ+ characters, they would have had Briala move on to a healthier, more honest and loving relationship, rather have any part of her want to go back to her abuser .

Honestly, that was probably the point. Yes the relationship was abusive, yes, ideally Briala would have moved on, but...
Briala + Celene together was clearly written to be the most progressive options in so far as outcome for the people of Orlais and it also results in probably the friendliest relationship between the Ruler of Orlais and the inquisition. Celene can't just ignore Briala's insurrection, killing Celene to allow for Gaspard and Briala is a hopelessly unstable outcome.
A lot of people know what happened and still reconciled them because there are bigger issues at hand than an abusive relationship.

I'm all for dark, ruthless and/or desperate choices, so long as they portrayed as such. If players want to reunite Celene and Briala in what they hope to be some pragmatic greater good, that's their choice, but let us see the consequences. Let the narrative tone show our complicity in further enabling Celene's unrepentant sociopathy and damaging Briala's self worth. Let War Table missions and off hand comments from Leliana and Josephine, not to mention Briala herself in the Arbor Wilds, show that Celene was still all talk about providing any lasting improvements for the elves. In the Epilogue slides, tell us how despite being one of the Empresses' most trusted Advisors, Briala more or less found herself increasingly under house arrest. How when some would see the two of them smiling together, for the briefest of moments Briala had the eyes of a woman screaming inside.

Oh don't remind me. I don't use that Trial anymore since it promoted one of the barriers in the Exalted Plains (where you have to burn the corpses) I didn't know you could just reload the game (or that that trial was responsible) so I fought that stupid ice barrier with my Reaver's 2H Prismatic Greatsword for like half an hour. I wish it worked on our barriers the same way Wouldn't that be nice. *sighs

Sort of like a NG+ type thing where you have this specific superpower, like now youβre promoted, or enemies are at a lower level, or your entire party is made of greater bears. I could see even powergamers using them, just to try out different flavors of speedkills.

Hmm, that could be interesting, tho I'm not someone who likes speed runs (all my DAI PTs are around 200 hours long, I love to take my time), but still let's see what I'd like. Must Go Fast - Instead of slowing down when going into combat, you walk faster than before Power Level Up - when you hit the max level, you can convert your unused Power into skill points Let's Be Friends - attack radius of enemies reduced until you attack something, then cooldown for 10 minutes

It's not even the Pride demon that's the issue, because I might as well kite the bastard - it's the rift disruption and adds that are the problem for me, usually. We can only stand in certain spots to disrupt the rift, entirely exposed and vulnerable to any attacks - and the damn adds hits can interrupt the process, nevermind the whip or ball of electricity :/ I donβt even bother attacking stuff directly with the Inquisitor. Keeps the aggro off of them enough that they can usually get clean disrupts. I also try to disrupt at weird angles around the pillar so I have a longer lead time before the pride demon can slowly stomp into position. Or just have Cassandra tank aggro.
The disrupts are why I put the Envy Demon above the Pride Demon in difficulty. No super-powered cheats in that one, apart from one shot of your focus ability. But your point is well taken about using the pillars and timing your attacks against the Envy Demon to exploit his tunneling and screaming pattern.
EDIT: Oops, just saw the mod announcement. My bad. Move at will.
