John Epler @eplerjcCan we just all take a moment to appreciate how fucking -weird- writing is. Like, it's basically creating worlds and people out of nothing and then hoping that you did a good enough job that they live outside of you. Yes, I've had a few drinks, but goddamn, it's still so -weird-. Or if you go peak JMS you can have entire covnersations with your characters in character in your head and it flows naturally. Yea, once the character solidifies in the head, with their quirks and beliefs and whatnot, it's like they become a copy of a real person stored in the brain* that will act according to their character rather than what you want them to do  *(There actually IS such mechanism in the brain that lets us store copies of people we know to help us predict their reactions and behavior - as far as I understand it, this is what's tickled during character creation) |

Dare I hope for the return of Desire Demons as recurring enemies in DA4? Sounds more like desire demon for a companion ;P As long as they give us some Desire demons to fight (and make male and female variants, so that everyone gets demon eye-candy to look at), I approve of that idea. It'll probably be a mage. More specifically, the shifty mage companion with its own intentions who pulls off something near the end of the game and end up important to the general plot in one way or another...  |

I mean, he's pitching it. Does one usually get the job of pitching something they're not on board with? Yyyyep. Anytime you're in a tough spot, from the narrative perspective for example, and can't seem to find a good solution, but you have to find something anyway. Writing or brainstorming ain't always fun - it can be really draining. For example, we can have all those amazing ideas, but there are issues with the lack of connective tissue between them and somehow we can't find a decent solution for that. Or, in case of projects like that - parts of games being cut or modified, thus removing parts of the story, messing with pacing and so on and we have to stitch the story again, but now with them lacking some vital components, etc. |
