This page of the thread has so much cynicism it would put Diogenes to shame.
NAh.... I'm sure DA4 will be launched in the Fall. Bio committed to it no? Corrine said so no? The console version is at Steam being tested there. That's a milestone. Bio/EA marketing is in full swing. Bio devs are squawking about the game... all good signs that "progress" is moving along. Even Shinobi said so.
But I'm curious why EA is only showing the sports game(s) at Gamescon and no Bio devs at SDCC.... must be a cost issue. Investors can be demanding at times.
I'm no seer but I imagine the fact that every BioWare game gets trashtalked relentlessly before release for the most petty and trivial matters has made them a lot more cautious in their marketing. BioWare has some seriously dedicated haters, because BioWare was *the* pioneer in what they perceive as the "woke agenda" in video games. It's a symbol. Also, they want to avoid getting themselves into a situation where they have to delay the game. Better to just announce it when it's good and ready. Why is this an issue? I'm actually super happy they are keeping the lid on the pot. Don't need a "my face is tired" for what is probably BioWare's final test in viability.

So the Fandom party they were hyping up turned out to be a big nothing. Did they ever say they were going to announce anything new there, though? I assume the point was for the Dragon Age fans physically at the con to get a chance to hang out with each other and meet some of the devs. I think people pu t2 and 2 together and assumed htis would be when they'd give us an info dump and possibly a release date given this opportunity and I'll admit I was on eof them. I twould be sad if w edidn' tsee some gamepla yor a potential release dateor something but lif egoes on we do a tleas tknow the game i scoming soon though regardless of what's happening here

Honestly what confuses me is like...do people not actually follow marketing campaigns? Granted I can't say I have followed to many but this has pretty much followed every single marketing campaign that I know of, though greatly extended because its taken them awhile to get their act together for like...nine years or so. But aside from teasers and stuff this marketing campaign so far is basically within their first month or two. Things aren't just going to hit us all at once. Things often get repeated over and over again of what the creators of a project feel is important for the audience to understand about their work. And compared to the silence we have gotten over much of the last nine years the last two months has been the equivalent of blaring music in your car till your speakers blow out.

To be fair, getting impatient about something you are (presumably) excited about is normal when you have been waiting for *so long*. Like a dam that finally breaks. Just sad to see people become bitter about it.

DAVG was meant to be released last year September.
There is a hypothesis that rough PC launch of Jedi Survivor is what pushed BioWare to delay the game for additional year. This is why I am happy to be patient if the delay has been to avoid a Jedi Survivor situation. Clearly there must have been some sort of major problem for the game to be delayed another year, as I said at the time. Everything was pointing to a late 2023 release, including the comic tie-in. I said at the time that the last issue of that was likely delayed because originally the final page was meant to have the date of the next game and then that didn't happen. Now with the amount of activity in the last few weeks (after months of drought) it seems to point to the Fall release they are promising but I'll believe it when I see it as this point. I never got quite as hyped up as I have with previous reveals because it has been so long now. I am looking forward to the game but I shall start getting really excited when we do have a definite release date.

I don't see an issue if the launch date is given in October for a late November release... . Also, I still believe that giving 3 hrs of early access to the game is a good idea. Mass playing will shake any additional bugs out in the open to be identified and fixed before launch.

Wasn't that the game that was almost unplayable on PC when it was first released? I hope they learned from that. I don't care about the wait so long as when it finally is released I can play it on my PC from day one. DAVG was meant to be released last year September.
There is a hypothesis that rough PC launch of Jedi Survivor is what pushed BioWare to delay the game for additional year.
Respawn was offered to delay the game by EA, but Respawn heads just didn't take the offer.
If the game architects had any smarts, the game controls would be designed for both console and K&M at the same time to see which ones have a "proper" fit. Awkward PC controls to replicate console controls just won't do.

EA may want to have a word with you, regarding "when Bio is good and ready". Oh 4-5 pages back there was a post that said a Bio insiders mentioned that EA does not want a delay. Draw your own conclusion.

The marketing campaign has been a little… odd. But ultimately an event like SDCC is about meeting people and enjoying the time there. I’m glad the devs had a bit of fun with the fans that could make it, got to meet some of the voice cast before the strike goes into effect, and make silly memes about Jason Derulo in Thedas. It’s fluff and that’s okay. Once I saw the tweet about more information being revealed later in the summer I assumed we weren’t learning anything anyway.

All credit to this fan for the effort they put into their cosplay but did she have to make Bellara's beehive even more ridiculous? It is way OTT.

If there's one thing I've learned for the past few years, is that gamers can be VERY forgiving. Your company can be rife with sexual harassment accusations, reports of extreme crunch, and incompetent management but some gamers look past that if the game is good not necessarily great. We saw that with Cyberpunk's "comeback". Some gamers are willing to forget and are happily looking forward to the next installment without looking at the company with a critical eye.

I'm somewhat surprised about Gary McKay. EA sent him to the company in what seemed a corporate stooge role to watch what was going on at BioWare and right the ship a few years ago, then was named interim GM, then full GM...and now he's hanging out with fans at conventions.
Also, I'm still processing Neve being a Vampire Queen.

"We had other projects going on at BioWare as well," Epler says. "We wanted to make sure we got this one right." The developer continues, calling The Veilguard "the best version" that the new Dragon Age "could possibly be." Barlow then chimes in, describing how she's been working on the game for five years now alongside its cast of actors: "We started casting five years ago. The team, the talent has been on for five years." And, according to Barlow, five years isn't that long considering the amount of work the cast had to do: "It takes a long time to record 700 characters, you know - 80,000 lines or 140,000 lines with all the Rooks. It just takes time to make good."

"it takes a long time to record 700 characters" WTF
I'm pretty sure DAI didn't have that meany speaking characters and the fandom wiki has 296 different character entries for the game and that include codex reference, not just speaking in-game characters.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard took "so long" as BioWare "wanted to make sure we got this one right" - that, and "it takes a long time to record 700 characters" and 140,000 lines Well that explains a lot. Imagine having a line of dialogue that doesn't get selected much and then it turns out there is a bug on it. One thing leads to another and now there is a whole string of dialogue that doesn't work but may be it wasn't picked up on immediately. So, they have to keep playing and replaying, checking and rechecking the dialogue of 700 characters. Phew. By comparison, DA:I had 88,000 lines of dialogue. For comparison, any idea how many lines there were in ME2 or ME3? I'm pretty sure DAI didn't have that meany speaking characters and the fandom wiki has 296 different character entries for the game and that include codex reference, not just speaking in-game characters. It probably has something to do with including the six factions into the narrative. Take the Crows for instance. Presumably any involvement with them will at least include Caterina but probably Viago and Teia as well, not to mention minor operatives, plus everyone connected with antagonists or whatever is troubling them. Then there are the multiple episodes in the companion character arcs that they have promised us. Once again presumably that includes multiple contacts and enemies involved to a much greater extent that we had in DAI. Also, our interactions in the Lighthouse are probably going to be more extensive than for Skyhold.

And, according to Barlow, five years isn't that long considering the amount of work the cast had to do: "It takes a long time to record 700 characters, you know - 80,000 lines or 140,000 lines with all the Rooks. It just takes time to make good." Ok so assuming that 80,000 lines included one Rook then there are about 20,000 lines for Rook (since 3 added Rooks combined for an extra 60,000 lines). Hopefully that means we get a lot of dialogue variety.
