Nothing can make up for reducing mage’s abilities to only 3. I really hate Veilguard’s combat design for mages. I just can't agree with this sentiment at all given all the combat videos we've seen. Fade Step, Barrier, Mind Blast, Spirit Blade, etc have all been rolled into the default abilities. They added additional abilities like Arcane Mark/Bomb detonation. They let mages use a parry "active" (an ability previously limited to warriors/rogues). They let you do a beam attack and chain attacks which make up for the AFK staff auto attack of previous games, effectively filling in roles for what actives can do. The abilities are just a small piece of the puzzle, and this is before you consider ultimates and rune actives. One rune is basically just Cone of Cold in a circle. Another is basically akin to weapon actives from DAO. All in all, you not only have more build variety, but nothing is stopping you from slotting in abilities that work in different missions. In DA2/DAI some mobs were basically immune to some elements on Nightmare (the difficulty I'll probably play in), so like here you'll just not slot in stuff that is useless/weak (assuming you dont use the runesto override element types).

From what I understand, the three "abilities" all the classes get are like the ultimate abilities for each skill tree the Inquisitor got, and a lot if not most of the spells/abilities that used to be bound to a single face button press have been adapted into button combos instead. On top of the ultimate ability each subclass gets. I have my criticisms of other aspects of Veilguard, but the combat system doesn't 'appear' to be one of them at this time.

You know, looking at this map made me realize how much i want more games set in Thedas, because there are still so many places we haven't visited. Hopefuly, DAVe will be successful enough that we will see Dragon Age V. I just need a Dragon Age game to explore Par Vollen and see the heart of Qunari society and drink in all that Qunari lore in maximum detail. Then I can rest in peace.

I hope executing combos isn't too hard, because I'm bad at button mashing. Me too. I'll be executing combos the way monkeys write Othello. If I button-mash enough, one day I'll land on a combo and it will be epic.

Veil Flurry - Spellblade Trait "Hold X at the end of a Light Attack Chain and release at the right moment to unleash your Orb in a circle around you." Oh, so that's what that effect is. I wondered when watching the video. I suspect I might be a bit fingers and thumbs clumsy when it comes to doing it right but since that is a high level encounter by then I should probably have got the hang of it. Definitely like the look of Spell Blade.

^ I love it the more I see it. Really makes me wanna play a Spellblade. What a cool-@ss freakin' move, I want it inside of me. Metaphorically speaking of course. Would be quite painful, otherwise... I mean, I imagine. 🤔 Now of course the lore nerd in me is asking, how on earth did the Crows come up with this? Spell Blade is a Crow specialism right? How many high level mages did they have in their ranks? So, I am going to focus on the Antivan Crow part of the specialism. Force Mage was a specialism developed in the Kirkwall Circle, so Spell Blade was a specialism developed in the Antivan Circle. Then when the stuff happened at the White Spire, the rebellion started as a result and the Templars went crazy and started annulling them, the mages from the Antivan Circle who didn't join the rebellion sought refuge with the Crows and they suddenly acquired a whole lot of arcane knowledge and expertise. Yes, that works for me.

Good news Dragon age the veilguard is on the Top Currently Global Selling Steam Games at #73. What ever it is that make the selling numbers grow, i am very thank full for it. Hope the game will have a good enough story and in game consequences, so that they get good feedback at release.

Yes, that works for me. I assume the mages in their ranks would've also trained in close-quarters combat as well as magic, not foregoing their physicality, agility... knowledge of daggers, poisons, everything - and developed/refined it into their own thing, a "best of both worlds" kinda deal. One of the Spellblade Passives, for instance, is called "Antivan Kiss", which increases Shocked and Burning stacks on a target - that's analogous to poisoning, inflicting ailments (or bleeding wounds, even) on a target and enhancing their duration, efficiency/lethality. If you watch the Spellblade in combat, even their basic attacks, it's all very sorta elegant and almost dance-like, similar to the moves of like an expert duelist - how I imagine the Crows fight. If you've seen Teia and Viago fighting in the trailer, you'll see the similarities. It's all very Crow-coded, they've truly done an amazing job with it!

Seriously. That move alone (Veil Flurry aka fiery dragon-orb above) is enough to convince anyone to play the Spellblade. And if that's not enough, show them the Ultimate. I mean... oof!

Ngl, Shadow Dragon looks like Inquisitor with semi-transparent left hand. Plus Inq wears this faction clothes in CC. Make me theorise he/she has been working in that organisation, alongside Dorian.

My canon Inquisitor was generally good aligned, romanced Sera, and was close friends with Dorian. It'd be utterly on brand for her to be in Shadow Dragons. Would be interesting if she's the leader but been hoping it's Fenris.

How does Bellara look cartoonish?
Mostly it's the oversized cheekbones and very narrow chin. If ever there is a V face, that's B. Mind, So can Taash. I can't sync the giantess, the face and the voice. Blame it on my memories of the Arishok, I guess.
But, hey, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
Maybe this helps. Asian beaty standrad. link

Timing becomes another tool in our arsenal. I've seen some abilities referring to things like "after a perfect block" or whatever (I might be paraphrasing, can't remember). Sounds promising! Especially big for rogues considering Rogues are all about mobility and I believe some of the build vids and stuff talked about Rogues generating momentum via blocking and parrying. On the negative front something I am annoyed by so far there just seems to be only one major finisher in the entire game which seems pretty universal, at least for Rogues and Warriors. Also really annoyed we don't get bow finishers like this: Wonder if they will be open to adding more later... And holy crap I never even seen that second one.
That's really good.

There is not even close to the build variety in Veilguard you had in Origins. In Origins could play very different types of mages: spell-based dps powerhouse, healer, blood mage, shapeshifter, arcane warrior, and more. You picked your abilities to play what you wanted instead of only picking 3 and whatever Bioware feels like giving you. You had fun combos between your spells instead of having to light attack over and over and over to maybe get something. They set the game in Tevinter, and the only thing they gave mages is weapon swap and rogue hybrid combat. Nothing at all to do with magic. Instead they cut number of abilities. No fun spell-based system or going all out with magic to match the setting. They chose a combat system that was not designed for mages.

Asian beaty standrad. link
Hm.. thanks.
There is a resemblance, yes. And, if B represent Jee as a thank you for her voice work Bio did a piss poor job, imo.
On another note, Bet'ya you can't make a B face using the CC. In the 60s programming had a saying: GIGO = Garbage In Garbage Out. I've seen the head models for the CC. Not one beautiful face... plain to meh, yes. From the head sculptures I saw in the CC, I'm certain my Inquisitor's face cannot be recreated. She was a beauty. Good luck with yours.
