I still don't know why I'm preordering other like than to support, the Blood Dragon armor is horrendous. And so are the Deluxe armors. I guess the weapon skins are kinda cute? Eh. Whatever. 🤷♀️

Whatever. 🤷♀️ I preordered to show my support for Bioware, because I've dumped about 1000 hours into DAI, plan on doing around 500 after launch if it's anywhere close to that ball park. Are the cosmetic and stuff worth it? Probably not. But as of Inquisition this series is worth it to me and VG looks to be about the same standard.

So in light of this game coming out in a couple more weeks:
- What do we think will be the most positively received aspect of the game? - What do we think will be the most criticized aspect of the game?
This is purely speculative here guys, so I'm not breaking anyone over a board for a definitive answer. Just a best guess.
I think the build crafting and skill tree options will probably be the most positively received part of the game. The most criticized aspect, I think, will likely be some element of the art direction, albeit with the Darkspawn Redesign, the overall graphical look, or people finding the UI to be too busy.

I seriously don't get how anyone can look at this game and think it doesn't look gorgeous. I think there are people who are looking for greater facial detail, as it helps make the game look more grounded. While the aesthetic BioWare went with is distinct, it's not a given that it gels with people. For a lot of people, the commonly-used photorealism aesthetic is more pleasing to the eye because its just the norm. I haven't heard much of any complaints about the environmental art, but that's never been an issue with most Frostbite games. For me, I'm not a fan of the Darkspawn redesign.

IMO the detail in faces is there, it's just subtler than in some games - less visible pores, etc. However, if the style remains consistent within itself, I see the same things happen as I noticed some people mentioning during the preview - things that seemed off initially just blend into the game and stop bothering people and work within itself. Will it be a perspective shared by most? Hard to tell. But it's not unlikely.

I seriously don't get how anyone can look at this game and think it doesn't look gorgeous. Bad is not a word I would ever use to describe this game's looks. "Not right" is the more appropriate term in my opinion, at least as far as the character models are concerned. People actually looked like people in the last game, wrinkles, pores, proportions and all. Now everyone looks fresh out the womb and airbrushed like a mother fucker with off ass proportions. I've sort of gotten used to it as time has gone on, and it's by no means a deal breaker. That being said, this is definitely my most hated design and art choice across all four games. I really wish Bioware would stop fucking around with this whole "new interpretation" bullshit and just nail down a consistent look for this series.

Yes, I think art design of characters and creatures will be the most negatively received. Not sure for most positively received. Maybe return to single player, mission-based format.

The proportions in DAVe are closer to realistic than in e.g. DAI. People are too used to comic hero and anime proportions (smaller heads, wider hips in women, broader shouders in men, tiny waist, long legs) and thus they view proportions that are actually closer to normal rather than comick-ish as 'not right', which is just pure LOL to me

I think the lack of connectivity with the previous games would turn many loyalists from wholly receiving the game with full support. It's still a bit premature. The game's Act 3 may blow us away so much that we'd forget about the issue. As much as I'd like to see references and callbacks, it makes sense for me that we are going to be in the Northern nations. Did we hear much about these nations when we were in the South? In Origins, Orlais sounded a very foreign place. Even for Inquisition with its huge influence, what we heard of the North was just little tidbits. I don't consider the Divine to be that influential honestly, especially when even the Anderfels is being assaulted by a heightened Blight. I agree with people not liking the new demons and darkspawn designs but they aren't that horrible for me to get distracted from my immersion. Facial animations however will definitely be the one that sticks the most to me. I do prefer Horizon Forbidden West's overacting than dead faces we have seen for Veilguard's NPCs. As for the companion's contribution in the combat, we don't know until we get to play the whole game.

And when you put 'em on lithe and stumpy frames, it just looks weird. when you couple that with eh art style, a lot of these characters look like they were made by Pixar. Tat's not an inherently bad thing, but it just doesn't fit the world they're in. Then again, this game seems to be the final violent shove from dark to high fantasy that started a long time ago. So, I guess for those that accepted that notion long ago, it probably isn't that much a jarring big deal

So, I guess for those that accepted that notion long ago, it probably isn't that much a jarring big deal A lot of the heads may look too big to you because you're used to smaller heads on broader shoulders in games, and 8-9 heads (that's how artists measure human proportions) compared to more regular 7-7.5. Basically, I think you may need some refresher on how both real people and Pixar look. Because no, DAVe doesn't look like Pixar - it is rather mildly stylized, and it's quite funny to see people being like 'it's Pixar!" over that mild stylization, when they can't even tell that majority of humanoid models in other 'more realistic' games aren't actually that realistic. Also - is it really that violent of a shove when it started a long time ago? I was there 10 years ago when people were calling DAI "Disney" for the silliest of reasons, including a more vivid color palette (an argument I thought has died when Witcher 3 also used a lot of "Disney" colors). Also, DAO isn't that dark, and next chapters aren't that whimsy - and neither is DAVe from what we've seen. DA creators know that the dark moments look well when they're contrasted with lighter and more whimsical ones, which is why some of the most memorable bits of DAO today are actually the funny and lighthearted ones; it's not just broodmothers all the way down.

I'm going to start drinking every time I see phrase 'from dark to high fantasy.' If I die of alcohol poisoning I hope BSN attends the funeral.
Darkspawn are my biggest issue so far in terms of monster designs, I actually think demon designs are fine for the most part. (Other than most of them having their faces stolen for some reason.) Maybe not amazing as past games, but I dig the idea they're exposed nerves about to unravel and undergo a major transformation. Even regeneration?

The story being a rehash of Inquisition.
