To be a fly on the wall at the BioWare office right now with only a couple of days to go. Hopefully our Phantom dev friend can give us some insight on the mood after reviews? I am curious about how our boy Luke is doing, though I imagine he's probably waiting for the remaining bulk of reviews to come through post launch.

After watching more Boomstick Gaming, I feel confident posting this meme about Veilguard combat: <snip> I hope so. It looks great, but the complaints weren't really about the powers and gameplay mechanics directly. The gripes were about stale enemies. The reviews I watched said that the gameplay feels great at first; but you gradually realize that every enemy (excepting dragons) has essentially the same gameplay loop. Rook becomes so powerful, and the enemies so boring, that it's easiest to just pick a loadout and power through everything, not bothering to use the cool but unnecessary allies and features. I don't know if this will be my feeling, but it makes a lot of sense. I hope to enjoy it, and I'm still excited to play.

Daily Mage skill ovulation post, part deux: TEMPESTYeah, this one's broken for me too. Though I noticed you're using Postimages to host them. I think that may be the problem. I used to use them all the time, years ago, but I find that they're a terrible hosting site now. I can't even view half the images I have on there now.

And most game have a combo that can trivialize combat. Souls is often gold standard and people often caution against playing magic users first time, because it makes game much easier.

I don't know if this will be my feeling, but it makes a lot of sense. I hope to enjoy it, and I'm still excited to play. I'll be honest, one of the things I'm most looking forward to is buildcrafting, and I know that's not typical of the Bioware fandom. I do feel that one reason they made the options for combat settings so customizable is so that people can pick and choose how they want combat to feel. If you're the kind of player who isn't feeling engaged by the combat, just pop on god mode or turn down the difficulty so you can get that sweet, sweet story. If you love action game combat, you can twiddle with settings and builds to tailor the experience to what you want. The ones who might have the worst time are those who never particularly engage with the systems in games to customize their experience. I know a couple of people who bounced hard off of DAO because they couldn't be bothered to learn how to set tactics, for example. It may be the same here, but skewed towards not wanting to bother with respeccing and tinkering with equipment between missions. I, for one, am so happy about the free respec that I'm not even planning my Rooks around their specialization, only their lineage, faction, and class. I want to figure out both the most efficient build and the most 'fun' build, because rarely are those the same. And knowing that the 'best builds' will vary based on the major missions and enemies sounds cool to me. I can see how some might find that more annoying, though.

Fairly positive assuming you're asking relative to reviews dropping and what not? Enough people have been through multiple launches that we're quite used to how tumultuous it can be. Thanks for asking 🙂

I used to use them all the time, years ago, but I find that they're a terrible hosting site now. I can't even view half the images I have on there now. Weird. It's working fine for me (tested on multiple devices). These are quite hefty gifs, Postimages is the only hosting site I found that accomodates that. Others like Imgur have a much lower size limit, which impacts the gif quality...

As the person who did all the balance, I will say that if you are comprehending how to make a cohesive build and understand the combat mechanics, you should play on Underdog. One of the downsides to having a lot of power growth vectors is the difference between people who engage vs those that don't becomes a chasm quite quickly. If you start blowing enemies up rapidly, turn up the difficulty (or play on nightmare where that will not be the case) - basically if it ever feels super easy or like enemies are health sponges you're probably on the wrong setting for your skill level. The custom difficulty settings are there to make the gameplay enjoyable (for whatever that means to you).

Bioware started off doing literal DnD games where there's a ton of build possibilities available, then as time went on they prioritized other things although you could still theorycraft in KOTOR. The part of the Bioware fandom that love BG3 for example love to buildcraft

Depends what PART of the Bioware fandom you're talking about. Bioware started off doing literal DnD games where there's a ton of build possibilities available, then as time went on they prioritized other things although you could still theorycraft in KOTOR. The part of the Bioware fandom that love BG3 for example love to buildcraft Fair point about the fandom. There are definite groups within the whole of fandom with different preferences. I should have specified more 'Dragon Age', since respeccing has been limited in previous DA games. Also to be more specific, when I say buildcrafting, I mean the ability to change them within a single playthrough, not between playthroughs, since of course there are ways to develop characters and tactics to achieve different outcomes even in DAO. For me, it's the ability to freely modify your skill tree throughout a playthrough that feels incredibly enticing.
