I'm very happy I got Andromeda and Inquisition pre ordered at full price. Dumped over 700 hours and 7 playthroughs into DAI and probably 400 hours and 5 playthroughs into Andromeda. May even get a sixth and certainly gonna try for an eighth with Inquisition before Dreadwolf.
The reason I bring this up though is Sandetiegers comments on the games state at launch and the patching honestly made the experience worse. Sure the graphics improved but the game actually got buggier later in its life cycle. Still not bad enough to ruin things but if one does not care about graphics then the game launched in a pretty solid state.

Patrick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social Me writing new elven words: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!
Me getting recorded so actors know how to pronounce the words: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
Andrew Baker @abakern7.bsky.social How many unnecessary apostrophes are in those names Patrick?
Patrick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social Listen, I don't always add apostrophes. A lot of the apostrophes people blame me for were put in by DAVE, who actually came up with these words in the first place.
...
Two.

DarkGoddessEris @darkgoddesseris.bsky.social @trickweekes.bsky.social I have a question that you may or may not be willing to answer. But in terms of the Evanuris of Dragon Age... the codex states that Mythal is the mother lf at least 4 of the Evanuris. Is this in terms of in the biological sense or is this more figure of speech?
Patrick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social You've got what codex entries say as Dalish legend and then what Solas says. It's meant to be uncertain until we explicitly explain more.

So they're voicing the game now? That's good news Once the game is out, I'll be fascinated to hear how much of the early voice work they did made it into the final version - they've been doing some voice recording since at least 2020, since we saw a couple of voice actors in the behind the scenes teaser trailer they did then.

I don't know how I feel about hearing they are doing recordings at this point - scared because "wait, this isn't done yet?" or relieved because at least we know it's kind of on the way lol.

Could be last minute edits/rewrites or small/ambient/filler lines. We know Patrick and John were still writing as of last week or two weeks ago. At least I hope that's it. Another (extremely low, admittedly) possibility could be that they're not referring to the main game but potential DLC? Maybe the writing and VO is done for the main game and, while it's being finaled, the lead writer and narrative director have started on potential DLC. /end cope I don't believe that myself but it's not a complete 0% chance.

Not neccessarily. All that could have been stuff specifically for the trailers since they probably had at least some idea of what they wanted to do in some regards especially in regards to Gareth David Lloyd as Solas. Its not that likely that they were doing a lot of voice recording way back in 2020 per se just very limited stuff here and there based on where they had a need. Although I guess in this regard I will be fascinated to see the timeline of all this because the Thedas Calls trailer did have a lot more voice acting lines in it. I don't know how I feel about hearing they are doing recordings at this point - scared because "wait, this isn't done yet?" or relieved because at least we know it's kind of on the way lol. I had a similar joking thought on my own and remembering the Behind the scenes features of what Peter Jackson was putting his team through to finish Return of the King came to mind. However we really don't have a lot of industry insider information on just how this process works and when this process works and when things are added. Though I think the biggest potential problem with adding VA work late to a process is that there would be potential for bugs to not get properly caught...but then that is a risk with no matter what you are doing in video game dev. And voice recording is honestly something I think makes a lot of sense to add fairly late in the process given the nature of video games in the first place. As my comment above would indicate it might be something that they could do here and there throughout game dev as the need arises however given comments I have heard and read on the nature of such things for one to do voice acting you basically need to be pretty sure of your A. writing and B. cut scene construction before adding the actual recordings because if you notice problems then you will need to rehire these voice actors...outside contractors...to come in and fix the problem you just noticed. Besides the fairly conservative estimate that this game is coming out in November means there will be roughly 5840 hours between now and then. Given that you probably can have multiple recording sessions going on at the same time and given BioWare's techniques where you don't need multiple actors in the same room at the same time and given that these days you can even do recordings in your home its a lot of time for this voice work to be recorded, added, debugged, and changed. have multiple takes run if they notice problems. Though if you do want to look for things to be concerned abotu far more concerned about the insinuation that they are still doing writing in the game I have seen in these posts. But again even then we're largely missing context and don't really have insider info.

For a game this size, VAs for major characters will have dozens of sessions. They aren’t the last thing done, since the characters need to be animated to fit the performance, but as mentioned this could be one of the final sessions.

An important thing to consider with MEA, DA2, or any particularly derided game is that a lot of people are going to be buying these games for like a dollar, or two, on a sale. It's not really a suprise that people can find value in these games now when the investment is so low. Dragon Age 2 is good though. I have the luck that my father bought the DA games. He bought DAO for me and the whole family has so much fun, that he bought DA2 as well.
In the end only my father played DA2 once. I don't remember when and why my father bought DAI. But we have fun with it.
DAO was worth the full price. In my eyes.
DA2 was worth the price my father payed in his eyes. For me it is like Greedfall not worth full price. DAI is a difficult thing. I don't know what i would pay for it.
The thing is my father don't buy DLCs and don't buy on day one.
But i think it isn't only the money. It is also a question of which new games are coming onto the market. If you don't have new games in this styl, you will play the older games. So younger people buying them because someone recommend them the game.

Hm... Audio engineers have their work cut for them, when doing audio recordings. There is the cinematics and animation sequences that need lip syncing and background audio (ie: environment and/or music). This requires access to the current game state and additional resources. I'm sure there is competing groups that need access to it. So, scheduling is a must and that means the groups are in a queue. Change management is also a must. I've seen concurrent access to project programs and they overwrote each others changes.... so No-News-Bio must deal with cost, time, resource access, user/group change requests, delays if piecemeal work is done by outside studios and managing the whole thing is crucial (ie: change management)..
No-News-Bio made the right decision with the Summer Reveal announcement. It provides them with time flexibility. Having said this, I still believe that crunch is inevitable and those players pre-ordering or buying this very expensive game ( my opinion) at launch will feel the "Crunch Effect".

Would retakes also take place during this time, or do you think those are handled on the onset of the lines being spoken? I ask because we know they've been doing full playthroughs of the game, and I'm wondering if the voice acting being described here is them bringing someone back in to voice new lines for additional context, or to restate them because they don't accurately capture what the Writer/Director were going for.

Retakes can take place either later during the session or during a different session, including being called in for one just to do the retakes. And wouldn’t necessarily say it’s because it wasn’t properly captured. That’s why they do multiple takes for most lines after all, either to have options or to get it just right. Could be any number of reasons, like how earlier one of the devs said some lines they wrote didn’t fit the scene they were written for but they found other places to put them. Or simply after recording the writer had a “Wait, I just had an idea for that line/scene that would be so much better!”

it looks like bioware now have a new or revamped/reopened tumblr social media account? - bioware.tumblr.com/"Official Tumblr account for BioWare, creators of Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Anthem. [ESRB Rating Pending to Mature]" The banner image is the same one as on twitter, with the DA4/next mass effect images. dev whose bio reads "I do social media stuff for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and EA Originals": "promise I'll keep work stuff to a minimum on here, but I'm helping bioware run their new tumblr account yippee for now, expect a lot of reblogs and simple posts while we turn the lights on and set up the furniture. things should kick off in earnest this summer" same dev on the community manager jay being laid off: "Let it be known that when it's time to share more about Dragon Age, BioWare will be ready to knock it out of the park. You can thank Jay for laying the foundation for connecting us with our community 💜"

I vaguely remember reading that the BioWare tumblr was operated by a fan, and I think BW may have acquired (bought?) the domain from them. But don't hold me to that, I am very much out of date with my tumblr information these days.

No-News-Bio is connected? Really? I'm shocked & awed. The studio must be cooking an electrifying game.
Phase I of the studio marketing strategy may be at work here = devs slowly starting to chirp.

The timing of this is kind of interesting. Similarly Doctor Who socials put out fan art of Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson AKA the Doctor and Ruby before they could release trailers for their episodes (the David Tennant + Catherine Tate return trilogy was to air first), so it's a nice and fun thing to do before the marketing push of the new stuff, promoting fan work and engaging with the community - they've been going it on Twitter a while of course but actually re-opening the tumblr and posting the fan art there? Definitely feels like it's potentially a pre-cursor to the gameplay stuff in the coming (hopefully 3, like June!) months
