Oh, John wrote Davrin? I loved Garrus in ME3, so now I feel like the competition to be my canon romance has potentially gotten more interesting!

Sucks to hear about Ike Amadi. Hopefully it turns out to be a misunderstanding.
At least going off the gameplay trailer, it's hard to argue the game will be bad. There was nothing there that screamed poorly made, to me. It could just be mediocre, however. Then again, the Internet will also randomly decide to forgive games even if they are buggy, so who knows. *thousand yard stare at BG3*
I've never been a big Garrus fan, so not sure how I'll feel about the writing for Davrin. Still excited for the character, though.

I admit, i found Garrus to be very boring in ME1, but he grew on me in ME2 and i liked him in ME3. Not my favorite ME companion by any means, but i'd say John Dombrow did a good job with Garrus. Plus he wrote Javik.
Anyway, now i'm even more torn between Davrin and Taash

Well good feelings can never last for too long, can they? I came across this video and read the comments and... This hurts both my head and heart. Why does it seem some people thrive on negativity? Yeah, I've found that I can't read the comments on even a positive/optimistic DAV video, unless it's Kala Elizabeth's channel, because it will be full of people who just KNOW that DAV is going to FLOP and Bioware is DEAD because they've gone DISNEY WOKE and abandoned good writing in favor of DEI blah blah fucking blah. Because apparently it's impossible for a game with colorful graphics and a diverse cast to have a good story. Even rational skepticism and criticism gets drowned out by that crap. Oh, John wrote Davrin? I loved Garrus in ME3, so now I feel like the competition to be my canon romance has potentially gotten more interesting! Saaaame I can't decide until I'm in the game with my first Rook and actually interact with all the characters, but based on voices and what I've read so far in Tevinter Nights, I had been thinking either Lucanis or Emmrich. But now? The list is expanding. Also, my current pet delusion is that Bianca getting destroyed means that Varric will finally get over Bianca-the-dwarf so we can romance him. It's totally foreshadowing! And it would even out the number of male and female romantic interests! Anyone else lying to themselves this way? -------------------------- As far as Davrin's voice actor goes, I think what he says and does is far more important than who he follows. Plenty of people follow those they disagree with, and he was obviously ok with voicing a pansexual character alongside LGBTQ+ cast members, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Thank you for your reply! A good read and food for thought. The thing with the faction-pilgrimages in Dragon Age usually is that you do with four people what the entire faction, so far, could not accomplish. Something comparatively small (since it can be done with four people) that just takes some time to get done - so it can be the main content of the game. It worked well enough for me in Origins, mostly because it also served as an introduction to the world of Thedas itself and the cultures of men, dwarves and elves. So overall that wasn't a bad thing at all. Always good to talk (game) turkey even where I disagree. Part of that whole 'what four people can do' is just an old Bioware (though not exclusive to Bioware) RPG trope of putting the Player character at the center of the action. I think I remember David Gaider once commenting on this that they had tried making a PC who was just a contributor and the focus groups of gamers largely hated it because they wanted to be at the center of the action. It was at its worst in Neverwinter Nights where you and your trusty (one) companion went out and outdid a paladin of Tyr, cleric of Tyr, and all the other agents of Neverwinter all by yourselves. Not even a glowing hand thing or darkspawn blood or piece of a murder god to power your rise to greatness. Back to Dragon Age, Exodus is still the odd-game-out but Origins is at least somewhat better (except for the timing, of course). In the Tower, I would rationalize that the templars are just following the book and would be ill-equipped anyway as the traps higher up (the Desire Demon and the Sloth Demon) are built to defeat them since they are built out of the very mages they were there to protect. Zathrian's tribe is in no state to go deep in the woods (and damn! who thought it was a good idea to put three ogres and all those Sylvans up there?) The Dalish army at Denerim I imagine coming from several clans that can be gathered later. Redcliffe, as I noted earlier is hamstrung by the illness but not death of Aemon and the scattering of the knights. Tegan might have led the few knights available through the secret passage but that would leave the town defenses greatly weakened. The election of King in Orzamar lies on such a balance that you wind up having to rediscover a paragon just to move the needle enough. To me, its actually pretty well done without depending on the more metastory aspects but everyone does or doesn't grab on to what they want. Case in point... DAI had turned into some sort of caricature of the whole concept. Several major factions embark onto completely harebrained schemes and have to be stopped for the good of everyone. Mages essentially sign up for slavery, a huge number of templars think it's a good idea to gulp down that red shiny stuff that turns you into a red spiked monstrosity and the wardens start summoning demons on an industrial scale if I remember correctly. To me this felt less like gaining allies more powerful than the Inquisition and more like hammering some sense into large groups of people who really should know better. I'm more sympathetic to the faction setups in Inquisition but I'll try to explain my reasoning though I'm not expecting to change anyone's mind. One thread that rolls through Inquisition is the power of fear, particularly fear infecting groups of people from their leaders on down. Fear that infects a group can make illogical things quite palatable in groups of people driven by a common bond, something borne out by history time and again usually to sorrow. Further, there is a single force behind most of the issues faced by those factions working on and stroking that fear (with some demonic help no doubt) so there is a coordination missing in Origins which could have made Corypheus one of the greater villans in the Bioware pantheon except for the fact that we don't really get to 'experience' that plotting and his underlings are ill-defined at best. One other thing to remember before I get into applying this to the individual cases is that some of these come from seeing certain scenes or conversations that are only heard in certain situations which, if you didn't have that combination, you never knew which was another weakness of Inquisition. Now, on with it. The Chantry, of course, is scared of the stunning loss in power between the Templars leaving, the mages no longer under their thumb, and the loss of most of the major hierarchy at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. The Mages are scared of a Templar army at the gates of Redcliffe village which is a rational fear. Alexius offers a instant protection to a Fiona who hasn't yet thought to reach out to the Inquisition. She has young mages, even children to protect which she mentions when Alexius informs her of the terms and indenture later. To me, it was obvious she didn't know what she was getting into exactly which is a common mistake scared people with a load of responsibility will make. The Templar situation is a bit more tricky because is you don't see enough of how their resentments have been stroked and played by Corypheus (or more likely, Samson) until late in the game. The fear here is the fear of being cast off and forgotten while dealing with debilitating lyrium withdrawal (which was, ironically supposed to be modelled in Origins for mages using lyrium pots. That was dropped as being detrimental to gameplay), something Samson would be uniquely positioned to sell to other templars. Also, the monstrosities didn't appear until later, with long term corruption. At first, the Red just made the templars stronger, faster, and gave them a psychological kick as you read from a couple of notes in Therenfal Redoubt. You also read in one note that the templars are used to being 'experimented' on by the Chantry using other types of lyrium. Finally, the red templars start with the leadership, likely helped through Lord Seeker Lucius (or the Envy demon doppleganger) like any good takeover of a hierarchical militant organization. Orlais is easy to manipulate because they are so self-centered. Celine fears showing any weakness. Gaspard fears being laughed at as he is shown up by a woman. Briala fears for the future of the elves in Orlais. It a perfect stew that Corypheus manipulates by manipulating the fears of the 'forgotten' heir, Florianne. I guess that leaves us the Wardens...(sigh) To me, the Warden situation is not as crazy through the lens of fear but is undercut by more than a few poor decisions. First is Livius Erimond. I have to think someone must have spilled a pound of Stupid in the Writer Room coffee the day they were coming up with Erimond and the end of Florianne's plot. He's got a freakin, twirly moustache for Maker's sake! Still he does deliver the goods even if he sneers them out: the Warden motto (In Peace, Vigilance. In War, Victory. In Death, Sacrifice) explains a fair bit of their frantic reaction to what appears to be the Calling. They are indoctrinated from the beginning in a fatalistic, militaristic cult and that allows the fear to overcome reason and make a bad plan seem plausible. I thought I had more here but I'm getting tired and fading so I will wrap for now. Good getting a chance to talk this out with you (and I saw you again too devil cat )

Wicked Italian💜 @wickeditalian.bsky.social Oh no. Mary Kirby gave us Lucanis and John Dombrow is giving us Davrin. I'm so in trouble. 😅 Can I please romance everyone in one playthrough? This is gonna be so difficult to choose who's first playthrough.
Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social I thought I knew who I was romancing in DAI until the first time I heard Sera giggle. I suggest pinballing wildly between whoever strikes your fancy as you learn more about the characters until the game comes out and then seeing who wins your heart!

I'm so confused. Am I supposed to be open minded about Nazism? Because I believe most of the world is okay with excluding those people from the "good people" category. I'm not sure if discussing politics is a proper topic here. Yeah, it isn't. I was just barely ok with it while the discussion was around the VA and his social media. This is well outside the limits of the exception in our rules provided for political discussion relating to video games and gaming issues. No further posts about this (including the VA and their social media follows) thanks.

So, anyone think there's any hope we get to see something from the CC at SDCC? Or will we have to wait until just before launch (whenever that is)?

Don't think we’ll see the Character Creator at SDCC. That I expect will be a video they release on its own with a blog update or something. If we get anything big, I could see a release date.

I need to remember that not everyone reads the forum the same way I do…
A number of posts have been moved that relate to a potential issue with Davrin’s voice actor. While the conversation was initially within the bounds of permitted topics, it quickly went off track in to very generic political conversation that, from past experiences, was only ever going to end in a bad place.
I had made a post calling for that conversation to end, but of course, many people read the oldest unread post first, and comment as they catch up, meaning they rightly felt comfortable replying to the conversation because they hadn’t seen my post. Removing the posts hopefully rectifies that issue.

Still excited for the character, though. I think I missed something here... But me neither have been fan of Garrus much, I do not think there was enough writing for him (or anyone to be honest, compared to Andromeda) in trilogy though. Still going open minded into DAV too Btw, great avatar picture, is there a large one somewhere, would like to steal it into my collections

Those 4 Rook voices will make it hard to pick one. You'll just be doing 4 simultaneous playthroughs.

I'm hoping we get a release date soon as SDCC is this week. In fact, I'm low-key manifesting it. This date makes most sense if Bioware is still planning Fall release. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but it’s hard, you know. I think the relase day will come next month with the gamescom and a november relase.

Those 4 Rook voices will make it hard to pick one. You'll just be doing 4 simultaneous playthroughs.
What, like BG3 wasn't like that...
Yeah I se emyself using all 4 a tone poin tor another though. My firs t characters wil lbe voiced by Bryony but with some pitch variations as I'm thinking I might give my elven Veil Jumper a higher pitched voice than my human mage that I'll be playing.

This date makes most sense if Bioware is still planning Fall release. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but it’s hard, you know. I think the relase day will come next month with the gamescom and a november relase. Yeah, that’s the other option, but I’m still hoping for late September/early October release, so this week would work ideally for this date.

Yeah I thin kthat's one of the fun parts o fdoing multipl eplaythrough's .I don' tknow wh owil lbe the bes tcharacters yet. I'm just basing things atm based of fof wha tm character and Rook I pl;an t opla yas for m yromances atm. As I think with my first characte rbeing a Grey Warden Davin wil llikely feel like th eright match up fo rexample. Becaus e being a grey warden is a tough job fighting darkspawn an demons all day. No tsomething I' d enjoy doing if it was a real life occupation.

T. P. Barnum, an American Showman in the mid-19th century is closely associated with the phrase "there's a sucker born every minute". I'm not one of them as I don't swallow every word that comes from Bio. I have observed, like many politicians, that people have a short memory and Bio is banking on that. Fandom have convinced themselves that DA4 is now the greatest game since slice bread was invented. Me? I'll make that decision when I play the game.
I haven't seen really anyone convinced that DA4 is going to be the greatest game of all time. I've seen much more people convinced the game is going to be utter garbage. Both aren't really true. The most people are in the middle slightly optimistic or slightly pessimistic. They all wait to see more of the game.

So, anyone think there's any hope we get to see something from the CC at SDCC? Or will we have to wait until just before launch (whenever that is)? Thereis always a chanc eas we don' tkno wwha torder the yplan to release info bu tiot's a wait and se eI think. I'd lik et oeithe rsee some of the CC or at the very least some female Rook gameplay maybe as a mage. I think I'd be happy to go find a quiet corner to avoid spoilers after seeing at leas ton eo fthose 2 things an dconcentrate on prepping my first world state. Obviously I'd like to see both but one would be enough. The good news is we do know they are showing off some gameplay during the panel as one of Hrungr 's post finds seems to indicate that but what it contains i ssomething else entirely
