It's somewhat bizarre. I wasn't expecting that one bit of gameplay, and the trailer, to be our lot for so long. By comparison, we've seen lots of Ass Creed. My theory is that it's related to the release date, which AC:Shadows has but Veilguard still hasn't.
If we don't get the release date before late August, I'll start to suspect they're leaving the doors open for a potential delay in winter 2024\early 2025. Even though the game is Steam deck-ready apparently which should signal it's relatively ready for release.

Although, the other bizarre thing is that these videos with the voice actors etc, feel somewhat like a victory lap. These are the videos you release as like the cherry on top of everything else. Not when the reality of how the game looks, and plays, is still largely a mystery. Not to say I don't appreciate voice actors getting spotlight which they do certainly deserve, but...yeah.

Sooo...can somebody explain to me what the devs are doing? I watched the video for Romance, Banish, Befriend and it was mostly about old DA characters? It's somewhat bizarre. I wasn't expecting that one bit of gameplay, and the trailer, to be our lot for so long. By comparison, we've seen lots of Ass Creed. Yeah, the gameplay trailer was 11 June and since then few things of substance (imo). I hope they are simply waiting for Game Informer's exclusivity to end and maybe for the EA's quarterly call.

I would have preferred the gameplay reveal be more like Hogwarts Legacy or Starfield where they showed bits and pieces of pretty much every aspect of the game (hint at the story, a couple companions, combat of different types, dialogue options, skill trees, a peek at the CC, etc). What BioWare showed wasn't bad but I would've liked to experience the story when I booted up the game and seeing level 1 combat was somewhat useful but left as many questions as answers.

Josephine was written by Sylvia Feketekuty, Emmrich’s writer, and also isn’t a very quantum character. I would be surprised if she didn’t make an appearance.
But yes, I too am puzzled by the marketing strategy. Maybe the negative reaction to the initial trailer has them re-thinking their plans. According to Shinobi a release date will be announced soon, although I don’t know why I have to hear about it from a Twitter account or why, if they know the date, they refuse to announce it.

Maybe the negative reaction to the initial trailer has them re-thinking their plans. Maybe. There was that one article saying they were going to show companion conversation system at SDCC and then later it was said that was outdated info. Who knows when things changed though - personally I was excited to see more on the dialogue side of the game so would've liked to see that.

Agreed, the marketing strategy is puzzling me too. From the trailer to the drip feed of minimal information, to the romanticism of the most basic of features, I just don't get it. The first word that comes to mind when I think about the marketing campaign is "insecure". I went on a bit of a rant about them on my Youtube video.

I can't believe that they're going to abandon that plotline, ESPECIALLY when the potential victim is your character. I hope we do find out what happened to Hawke or whoever you left behind in the fade in the future. the plot line has been resolved unless Bioware decides to reopen it. The consequences of the choice were clear. If it's my character sacrificing themselves, I would like to know if they're dead or not.

Even without the ginormous spider-demon.

I don't know it is canon that the group splits up, I can see Fenris being a bit bitter. Why if it was his choice? That's what gets me about the epilogue to DA2 and the assumptions made in the comic series. There was Hawke with this apparent group of devoted friends who always seem to stick together (at least they did in my game) and yet after we flee Kirkwall (which is usually the case with me since in the majority of runs I side with the mages) they abandon me. Okay, I can see why Averline might return to the city because she now has roots there and even Merrill as she now feels an affinity with the city elves but Fenris in particular was a free agent. I can only assume he secretly didn't approve of my actions, which is fair enough. Why should he be bitter though? I stuck by him for 6 years and saved him from Danarius three times. If anyone had reason to be bitter at his desertion it was me. Yet the comic series had him being so derisive and cynical about Hawke and the team back in Kirkwall as though we never did anything for him and had let him down. So, I was not happy with that view of our relationship and will be very aggrieved if that is the one they use in game. However, since he can be dead in some world states, I think it highly unlikely we will be seeing him since the recent panel did say there is no such thing as a canon world state, so they can't just opt for that one and say it is.

Not to say I don't appreciate voice actors getting spotlight which they do certainly deserve, but...yeah. is it though? The twenty minute game play video and the GI article is more then enough for us to make an informed purchasing decision. We already know basic companion information, how dialogue works, how combat works, and significant plot teases. Anything else we could get would just be expanding on those themes except for perhaps a CC vid. But given the nature of this game there is very little they can show off. As far as AC Shadows is concerned, since VG is coming out first and is higher on my priority list anyway I'm not really following the marketing campaign as closely. But the marketing campaign for it has pretty much been the same as VG. A trailer, a demo, a few articles, fair or not damage control over Yakuse. But it's the same thing, as are most marketing campaigns tend to follow this formula.

Maybe I've been spoilt by the years of early access and dev interaction with BG3, but I personally feel like we're getting eff all in terms of marketing for DAV. At least give us some random facts about the companions, artwork, memes, some cryptic hints ffs. It's supposed to come out in a few months and there's barely anything.

The fact that they haven't Watchdog'd/Anthem'd themselves is already a win in my book. More is on it's way ofc, and my hope is they won't reveal too much. IMO, they showed off more than they should have of DAI, and too early. Hype fatigue is a real thing, and then the letdown when game isn't quite up to those early vertical slices.

It's supposed to come out in a few months and there's barely anything. now the BG 3 early access is something to consider but we've determined that won't work for DA though that is probably more for corporate reasons then anything 'real' per se. Thing is though we're getting that. They have shared (and a promise has been recently made to contuine to share) artwork. Not so much memes...yet. But we've gotten a lot of random facts about the companions from the SDCC stuff mainly. Lucanis is a cook. (As an aside do wonder if they'll give Rook options to be a cook. Would love him and Oliver to get into a cook off. ) And that's the thing to. The game is a few MONTHS away from release. I think people are really underestimating what they can show off. Afterall a lot of games marketing tends to be very back loaded, tending to happen closer to release with launch trailers, streams, and the lifting of the review embargo. Like a couple weeks before release. And to note this will be primarily iterations of what they have shown us.

I get your point about the nature of this game, although it's something every RPG has to face during the marketing campaign, and I'd say most, if not all of them, showcases a deeper dive on the combat then the one showcased in the gameplay reveal for Veilguard. Considering the shift towards a semi-open world to a more streamlined experience, I'd also showcase one of the areas of the game, personally. I fear that, given Bioware's struggles and issues post-Inquisition, that what they shown isn't really going to help attracting enough attention from old players, and I'm not sure if it was really enough for newcomers, so far. I could very well be wrong, and hopefully so.

Gameplay is a separate thing and I'm fine with that coming late. I just want crumbs that would get me more invested in the story and characters, even if they have little to do with the final product. Just tidbits! I may just be very bored right now though. At least I have a holiday trip planned for September.

That since they are bug quashing/ QA passes these future areas might not be fully ready. They can but they want to make sure that it's fully represented...and the beginning of the game logically is the most ready and we still have minor bugs showed up. 2. Given how tight they are promising this game is with us already getting significant spoilers both within the early game and early marketing...well they may have to be very careful in what they show to avoid spoilers.

LOL... I guess it's coming "soon".

Okay, so I was re-watching the game play video and, call me stupid if you wish, but I only just realised that Rook changed their outfit during their trek across Minrathous. He starts out with a generic ragged travelling outfit and then just after meeting up with Harding asks if she has his gear. She points to a backpack and sword by the path but it must be like Mary Poppins carpetbag because apparently there was an entire outfit in there, not just a customised Veilguard cloak but the underclothes too. Then I realised that he must have stripped off and changed gear in the middle of all that upheaval. Weird but also how come Rook's gear included the Veilguard outfit? Oh well, I guess it couldn't wait until later because it is really important we get brand recognition with the Venatori.

And just like that, they updated their slides. So, no surprise, Veilguard's launching Q3 (Oct 1 - Dec 31)

So, no surprise, Veilguard's launching Q3 (Oct 1 - Dec 31) On the plus side, at least they have definitely committed to Q3 with their investors.
