I hope today's the day for the bloody roadmap. Reddit folk suggest that Monday and Tuesday are Bioware's typical days for announcements. Not sure if that's really the case but if not today then maybe tomorrow we'll hear something official.

Hmm... on the topic of recruiting the team.
I would much prefer to have the team taking part of the story and mattering to the story than just having (guy/gal)A or (guy/gal)B running with me or being left in a ditch and it doesn't matter at all.
If one disliked member of the team hangs around the camp and you can largely avoid each other. You go together for a specific mission because they are essential ,for story reasons in this case and not just mechanics, and then return to ignoring each other then I would prefer it if they matter to the story. Hmm... it could even be good for roleplaying if you could argue about why they are shunned, their opinions or actions not jiving with that of your character.
For me it comes down to how the team in used storywise by the game. Being able to dump someone but having all the companions that I did keep largely unimportant would not make me happier. So I cannot say in advance of playing the game how I feel about this decision. It might be a really good decision, it might not, depends on how they use the team in the story.

Someone like Javik was an optional character in ME3, and really should have been more important to the plot.
I think we should be able to be dicks to these companions though, and kick them out if it boils over.
And yes, by lack of powers in MEA I was referring to lack of power wheel. That was quite lame.

Fun fact, his removal led to a reshuffling of story missions that affected Thessia and the Cerberus Citadel mission the hardest, out of the existing ones.

Specs please! PC system requirement specs?
The minimum would probably be around Ryzen 2600x or i5-8600 for CPU and RX5700 and GTX 1070 for GPU.
Yeah, req specs. I just want to know if I'll be able to play on my laptop, or if I'll have to find an alternative solution. It has Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3070, so hopefully...

To me, it seems curious you would want to play a game called Dragon Age: The Veilguard without the Veilguard i.e. the companions. The lack of CHOICE of not playing a companion is the issue. Being critical toward Veilguard does not preclude wanting to play it (based on story & character development) despite its glaring faults

Being critical toward Veilguard does not preclude wanting to play it (based on story & character development) despite its glaring faults Maybe I need to have this explained to me in simple English because it does not compute. The companions make up the Veilguard and it's not much of a Veilguard if you leave out one or more of the seven companions available to you. But I really don't want to argue about this. Let us just agree to disagree.

Busche mentioned that there will be another "trailer" showing the mage, before game launch. My preference is for Bio to show the mage as a long range fighter. But, that won't be the case as this game's combat mechanics is melee fighting "to show off Rook" ( I believe this is a poor ass excuse. There's more to it). Regardless, I expect disappointment.
August has another 19 days to go, plenty of time for Bio to make an announcement. Nothing is written in stone.... Hell, the announcement could be "will make the REAL announcement real soon now".
Turning to the companion discussion, I'm fuzzy about how I can level up my Rook. My understanding is that if I level up my relationship with a char, I unlock a skill level. Hm.. Rook's progress levels is then dependent on my relationship levels. And, with one, two or all of them? And, if my relationship level , say with Taash, is at four, does this mean that the rest of the team is automatically set at four? Or, must I grind my way up the ladder with each one of them? Was this question asked somewhere?

The word "roadmap" has made me think hard about word usage and hunt down the original tweet. This is very weird, roadmaps are usually live service features and gives the community timeline for content drops. But that's not Dragon Age. It could be used a tool to outline goals and things in strategy meetings, so I suppose as a leadup to release, but the community doesn't really need that information and using it as a way to map out marketing events is really weird usage in the gaming world.
DLC? Expansions? Huh. Whatever, I guess we'll know shortly. A little weird terminology for a single player release though

I do see people's point on being to 'pass' on recruiting companions, however, I would say the positives outweigh the negatives. Companions can be more integral to the plot. Depends. Look at ME2. In order to have all squadmates survive, the player has to recruit Tali because she has the shield upgrade for the SR2. I found that to be lame. Look at DA2. Anders and Merrill are mandatory yet both are complete ****up's. Look how different the end of Act 2 is if Isabela isn't recruited. Imagine if Anders was optional? Could have the nutjob show up at the end of Act 3 to do his stupid crap. With the maps, change a couple lines of dialogue by having Varric was able to obtain maps of the deep roads. Click on the link in the post above. I agree with this. So many missed opportunities in DA and ME The game was lame.

Companions are a lot of work and if some are optional, or some can only be recruited if certain conditions are met, that's a whole lot of money people spent for things not everyone will experience. To me though this goes back again to player agency. If people don't want some companions around, there should be an option to not have them around. If people want to have two people in the party of opposite alignments for the lulz and the inevitable fight resulting in the murder of 1 or 2 companions, that's their choice. But this is AAA unfortunately :S

And from what I saw, Rook wasn't able to choose a talent for the companions to use against any of the baddies. That was because at the level their where at the start, they have no talent to use. They need to level up to get those talents. So what happened to all the talents Varric had in DAI? Why couldn't he use any of those? In DA2, before leveling up. Bethany has the fireball talent. Carver has the pummel strike talent In DAI, before leveling up, Cassandra has the shield wall talent, payback strike talent and challenge talent. Solas has barrier and winter grasp talent. Varric has long shot and caltrops. If the companions have no talents to start off with in this game, then what caused Bioware to change that?

All of what you describe is possible in Veilguard it does not matter how you get there structurally it's the same. Companions are super important to Bioware's success and they've teased this goes double for Veilguard. It makes zero sense for Bioware just to cut off those options entirely. We won't know how they will relate to your character 'allignment' unless you try. If you don't like them Bioware isn't forcing you to use them and they've already announced that the companions can leave the party.

If there are interactions with the character then obviously it isn't the same. Companions have ALWAYS been important to Bioware's success. They have also largely been optional

To me this feels like how big companies these days don't want to create content that some people will miss out on. But this is AAA unfortunately :S Games that have choices embedded into their DNA will always have some kind of content that not everyone will see. Otherwise, why have choices if you don't want players to possibly miss content? RPGs especially are rife with this and it's not a lost practice in the genre, BG3 has so many easily missed things and I've seen people be very enthusiastic when they find something they missed previously. Bioware themselves have always had this philosophy, even if they outright voiced it only with DAI. I remember, I think it was Mike Laidlaw, who said during DAI's marketing that they're not shy of making a game where players might not experience all the content on the first go because that fuels replayability. Sure, most normies will play the game only once (many won't even finish a first go, if Bioware's own statistics are to be believed) but Bioware has always made games that try to make people consider at least a second playthrough. In DAI, if you choose the templars you miss out on the mage content and vice versa, in DAO if you choose one origin, you miss out on the others and the references to them, if you make certain choices the end game consequences are different and you have access to different troops during the final fight, in DA2 if you don't recruit a companion or don't take a companion somewhere with you (Anders to the Deep Roads, for example), the main quests they'd be involved in play out slightly differently. I don't think this aversion is a AAA thing, mostly because if it's dictated by the money people, they care about initial sales, not about the long running ones or about the content of the game. This is something dictated by the studio's philosophy and, if things haven't changed after Laidlaw left, this should still be alive with Bioware. Although, if Laidlaw was the one pushing more for this, I can see things changing after he left, but at this point it's all speculation. What I've seen of the marketing for DAV, has been underwhelming and confusing for me, sometimes I get flashbacks of MEA's marketing. I think the only time where we can truly judge something like this at this point is when the game comes out, unless they decide to not be as vague and confusing between now and the game's launch.

perhaps one can exercise some of that player agency and just not bring them into the field or talk to them? All of what you describe is possible in Veilguard it does not matter how you get there structurally it's the same. Companions are super important to Bioware's success and they've teased this goes double for Veilguard. It makes zero sense for Bioware just to cut off those options entirely. We won't know how they will relate to your character 'allignment' unless you try. If you don't like them Bioware isn't forcing you to use them and they've already announced that the companions can leave the party. So there'll be zero interactions with companions you don't want around with the player in the game then? I'm going to hold you to that. If there are interactions with the character then obviously it isn't the same. Companions have ALWAYS been important to Bioware's success. They have also largely been optional Bit extreme no? 'I hate the look your character so much that I am not even going to give you a chance and if I have to interact with you at all it will be a negative on the game'. In most professional setting you often have to interact with people you disagree with in order to achieve your organizations objectives or people who might occasionally rub you the wrong way. A 'you can save the world but I hate your guts so eff you' mindset. Something that just didn't make sense in previous BioWare games where if you didn't recruit them or even disliked them later they would just dissapear from the plot instead of trying to do an important thing like saving the world on their own. And no not really. Especially if we take it as extremly as the above example very few of BioWare's companions have been optional to this point in any of their games to where you can ignore interacting with them entirely.

The main purpose of marketing is to tease and to offer previews of what we can expect in a game or movie or book. If they gave us all the information beforehand there would be nothing left for us to discover when we get to the game ourselves. Which is what they have been doing. We have seen a massive tease on combat, dialogue wheel, crafting, character creator, role playing, companion content, story focus, etc. ANd with likely two months to go there is plenty of time for them to continue to do so and we have seen them say more is coming and naturally more WILL be coming especially as the game hits Gold and in the weeks immedeitly proceeding launch as the review Embargo ends.
