I swear, some people need to get a bit more variety into the gaming appetite. I see so many people assuming that a shop upgrade system is therefore equivalent to a Microtranscation store or mobile game. I've even some state the same thing because they see a '+1' next to your weapon. Just really silly. ... What? The shop upgrade system is definitely an old feature present in many games. At least from the PS3 time. I remember Cleary it being a feature in Tales of Xillia, and probably in older games as well. I've seen a fair number of comments criticizing the system because they think it's tied to the Live-Service concept the game had been restarted into. My understanding is that the Live-Service aspect never even made it past the concept phase.

I think if he survives the prologue likely he departs to fetch the Inquisitor or something like that. May be we have to collect items for him to mend Bianca before he will take to the field again. May be he goes off to find the real Bianca to repair the crossbow.
I suspect he may survive because he featured on the promo poster. Would they really have included him if they were going to kill him off? Bear in mind he is in a prominent position, closer than either Lucanis or Taash to Rook. If he is only part of the Veilguard for a short time, why not put him on the edge?
On the other hand, when he departs the party to speak with Solas, it is almost as though he was handing over leadership to Rook, as though he thought he was going to die. Yeah he was likel yhedgin ghis bets as h ehad hoped he might be able t otalk Solas down but if not hre was likely not goin gt osurviv eknowin gSolas's powers an dth efact he is the Dreadwolf. Especiall ygiven now he's a tfull power h ewasn't fo rhte mos tpart in Inquisition he had t owai tfo rhis god batteries to fully charg ebac up again. Which they had by Trespasser given what he did to the Qunari .
Luckil yfo rVarric though Solas isn't crue lenough t okill him as he knew Varric meant well even if he didn' tquite understand what exactly Solas was attempting as a ttheen do fthe day he just went far enough to disarm Varric knowing that he'd be helpless without Bianca.

As per the Devs, Specializations being associated with Factions, it only means that at a certain point you’ve been around that Faction and seen how they fight, so that’s what you rely upon when choosing your Spec. But it could be any combination: a Grey Warden Death Caller, a Veil Jumper Spellblade… they’re not locked to your Faction of choice nor is there any other correlation. I know what they said and I can also read the general assertion about them. My point is that when you take your specialism the descriptor says this: Specialisation: Spellblade - Weaving magic and melee together the Crow Spellblade wields both dagger and orb to deal death to their foes. Specialisation: Duelist - Swift as the wind, the Antivan Crow Duelist specialises in dancing between blades and punishing enemies with devastating melee blows. So is that just trivia in the descriptor or is everyone going to assume that since you are a Spellblade you are in some way connected with the Crows? Ditto if you are a Duelist. The latter was what made me particularly start to question it because I have played a duelist in previous games. In DAO I was taught by Isabella, who didn't really belong to any faction and wherever she learnt her skills the only thing that mattered was that she taught you it. Then in DA2 you didn't have to belong to any faction or go to anyone for instruction, although I suppose you could head cannon that Isabella taught you if you wished. Strangely enough the specialism associated with the Crows and taught by Zevran was Assassin. Not strange at all actually but I was still an Assassin, not a Crow Assassin. Now they have specifically linked the specialism to a faction. Perhaps that is meant to account for why the Antivan Crow Duelist is different from the Duelist that we played in previous games. If it is no more than that, just intended to placate lore nerds like me, then fine. So long as it doesn't impact on how people in the world view me. However, I am wary that there must be a reason why they chose to link Spellblade to the Crows because I still think it is weird linking a magical specialisation to this faction. We have encountered just one mage associated with the Crows and that was in the novel the Last Flight. So far as I can recall we have never encountered a mage as part of a group of Crows in game, so they must be a rarity, possibly the odd child they train up turning out to have magic. It would make more sense if they had linked it to the Lords of Fortune. Rivain has magical traditions that are separate from the Chantry and elsewhere in Thedas, so it would make sense that the Lords of Fortune would have developed their own martial magical specialism. Alternatively, link it to the Veil Jumpers because they have an interest in lost magic and could have drawn on the old arcane warrior techniques. What about the Grey Wardens, who do have a history of recruiting mages and would likely develop martial techniques associated with the demands of their calling? So, if they deliberately linked a mage specialism to the least logical faction, I must assume they had narrative reasons for doing this and thus the fact you are described as a Crow Spellblade may prove significant. The guy in this video have the answer you are looking for. 1:35

I think you mix something up. The crow spellblade with the surename is a rook crow that choose mage and go into the spellblade. It could be anyone as they show with the warden rogue going dualist. And i don't read them calling that PC a crow duellist. Please read my post above yours on p.1525 where I specifically quote from EA/Bioware's own website on the matter and what I read from the rogue game play trailer also featured there. Whilst initially I was asking about surnames, that query was solved when I realised that Thorne was the name given to the Grey Warden character whether she was a Champion or a Duelist. So clearly, whatever faction Ingellvar belongs to, that is their surname. What I am now questioning is why the entry they give when you first take the specialism describes the person as a Crow Spellblade or an Antivan Crow Duelist despite the fact that, at least in the case of Thorne, quite clearly they are not. So, going by the blurb, Thorne is technically an Antivan Crow Duelist Grey Warden. Now they didn't have to describe it that way. For a start off, the Crows did not invent the duelist specialism. We have been a duelist in previous games and it was never suggested it was a style invented by the Crows. On the contrary, according to the codex in DA2 it is more commonly associated with Orlais. So, they could have simply had the entry read: Swift as the wind, the Duelist specialises in dancing between blades and punishing enemies with devastating melee blows. Antivan Crows particularly favour this style of fighting. Do you see the difference? You are a duelist that just happens to have been trained by the Crows (out of convenience because they happened to be available), you are not an Antivan Crow Duelist. So, why have any faction associated with the specialisms at all? There has to be some reason they linked them to the specialisms and I assume it is because we have to perform some task in order for us acquire the ability. Effectively that would be our "training". However, it should still be simply training as a Duelist or a Spellblade not an Antivan Crow Duelist or Crow Spellblade. Yeah and the video i post above will give you the answere and i am not sure if you will like it.

DA4 is curated to "death" according to Corrine. Not quite true, if we go by lip syncing issues. Shows why I don't swallow that hook & sinker coming out of Bio. Mage fighting distance still got the Rook in the middle of it. Still haven't seen a mage or ranger fight at and maintain distance... I saw Harding getting close. I guess she's a poor shot.
Not impressed with the mage fighting. Hope the Ranger class will do better but at this point I doubt it.
I think the game is not designed for semi peaceful distance fighting. There's no actual tank like before. I don't think you can build a companion to generate threat and keep ennemies on them for a long time. Effective crowd control seems limited as well. So imho mage/rogue/warrior rook will max DPS and dodge mitigate ennemies damage. Even the warrior Sword and Shield we saw wasn't build to sustain big damage over time. There's going to be a lot of running around like a headless chicken. Ugh

Well I watched the original one by the Bioware Dev and it didn't really enlighten me but I'll try that one and see if I am any more informed at the end of it. Okay, I'm still no wiser really. It seems that it may be just they decided to go full on Crow when it came to the description and labeling of abilities. There was a node on the basic tree that was marked Antivan Crow, so I don't know what significance that has. Perhaps it gives access to certain abilities that you only acquire if that is your faction, even though it just seemed to relate to general rogue skills. The trouble is they only revealed selective information and so we are going to be in the dark until they decide to reveal more. However, I also noted some other interesting information relating to companions. The podcast pointed out that some abilities were marked with a red X on Lucanis skill tree, suggesting those paths were no longer open to him, presumably because of either some choice we had made or the time limit on a quest that allowed them had run out.
I also noted that there is a category that seems to differ according to each companion where there is a meter recording jobs done. So Lucanis has Contract Killer, Davrin has Monster Hunter and Neve had Minrathous Contacts. Presumably this relates to their private activities that may or may not relate directly to the Veilguard but we can help them with. I'm guessing here but there is a locked path with a big V above it. Either that unlocks at a certain point for everyone simultaneously having completed the requisite number of missions or it relates back to their personal meter and once it is full it unlocks just for them. Presumably at some point they are going to explain this.

Whelp. Moment of truth isnt too far from us now. Redemption stories are fun, but they need to be earned as well. I know a lot of people wanted this game to be similar to the original (or 2 at least). Still, I think it's important to judge the game based on what the devs WANT it to be. If it's still not good, then they deserve the criticism for making such huge pivots with nothing to show for it. If they succeed and make a game that's good, then it at least points that the studio can coalesce around making a coherent gaming experience again. I'm going to hold off and wait for reviews before making a decision. BTW, does anyone know if this IGN exclusive coverage is also supposed to include the CC?

I'm glad they have plenty of time to try the game out. It was a little lame BG3 only gave reviewers three days to play the game before release.

My understanding is that the Live-Service aspect never even made it past the concept phase. I get where such assumptions are coming from, but... I think some folks may just have to accept that sometimes the game is like that because the devs want it to be that way, or they planned it that way for a long time

I'm glad they have plenty of time to try the game out. It was a little lame BG3 only gave reviewers three days to play the game before release.
I do appreciate it when developers are willing to give their review codes several weeks in advance of launch (for better or worse for the studio). It allows reviewers to give a more complete picture of the overall package. I didnt know BG3 only had three days for review codes. I know it got a lot of critical acclaim, but I did hear some sentiments that ACT 3 in that game could be a mess at times. Not sure if such an experience would have significantly impacted its overall scoring, but I think that game would have been a masterpiece for a lot of people regardless.

BTW, does anyone know if this IGN exclusive coverage is also supposed to include the CC?I believe the ywil a tsome poin tas the yusuall yd obut w edon' tkno wwhen that's the problem.
