Most people are going to be playing on console so why do steam numbers really matter that much? I think 90% of inquisitions numbers were on console and right now its number 2 on PS5 behind COD which is an absolute juggernaut of a game. I am guessing that most PC sales will be on the EA APP rather than Steam, given that most hardcore DA and ME players might have already purchased the earlier games using the EA APP. Also, I recall EA games were not available on Steam for a while prior to 2020 (dispute about DLC?). www.ign.com/articles/ea-games-added-to-steam-ea-accessI would have ordered on the EA APP, but I had money left over on Steam, and I had have a bug up my ass regarding how EA handled the Bioware layoffs.

So, since the game doesn't have any third party DRM, that means that somebody potentially could smuggle a PC copy of the game from a retailer's warehouse and just play the game, correct?
You still need a valid key which must be validated via an online connection . The game can be played offline after it's validated. In other words, no matter where you go, home, office, country cottage, yatch... you still need an internet connection for the game key validation.
DENUVO is also an anti-tampering tool, to prevent cheating in multiplayer mode.... like modifying damage values in memory or increasing your shield numbers or reduce your cooldown time.

I did buy previous games on EA app, but I bought Veilguard on Steam, also because shortly after DAVe announcement all 3 DA games were sold in bundle on Steam for, like, 10$

David Gaider @davidgaider.bsky.social A question I've received frequently, as of late: "Will you be playing the new Dragon Age?" Asked with a degree of, I don't know, anticipation? Like this is something I'd do covertly, to spite the current team. Or out of interest in hearing my True and Honest Thoughts.
My answer: "It's complicated."
Honestly, I don't think I can play and enjoy the game like other fans play and enjoy the game. Not ever. On one hand, it'd be fun to play my 1st DA game post-release without seeing all the compromises and cuts and disappointments from years of development. On the other, it's my baby. It's moved on.
Do I like everything I see? Not really. The art style leaves me a bit cold, but then the art style has changed with every DA and, as before, I'm sure I'll warm to it eventually. The gameplay has changed. The news on choices from previous games gives me pause. None of this would stop me, however.
That's because there's a lot I see which I do love. To go to these places I once dreamed of and finally see them there in all their glory? How cool is that? I have every confidence in Patrick and their writers to enthrall the fans and provide a worthy next chapter. Not a single doubt on that front.
So what'd stop me? Ego, probably. If I love it, I know a selfish part of me will ache that I wasn't part of it. And if there are parts I don't love, a part of me will wonder how it Might Have Been... so completely unfair to the team, not to mention ludicrous considering I've been away 8 years now.
If I get it on release, it'd probably be so I'd have something to distract me while the US inevitably self-immolates in November. 🫠
Chances are I won't. That's no slight to the team, who I wish every success and kudo possible. I know the road to now was paved with horrors, so they deserve it all. ❤️

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Matt Rhodes and his team decided to go with the artistic depiction of the game they went with. Not out of spite. But out of what ultimately went into the justification, and how other members in the team felt about the decision. Whether you love it, hate it, or are indifferent (like I am), no doubt there had to be some who thought it would be quite polarizing.

Gaider even mentions the artistic decisions on other games had to grow on him too. If anything, I am happy that Bioware does its own thing, instead of pointlessly chasing realism and straining our gaming machines.

My best guess is they went in this direction because they felt it more closely resembled Matt Rhodes actual concept art.

Truly though, in my moistest of fantasies, Dark Squall would have been like a frigid gust of wind (or an ice sphere/icicle impaling and knocking back), with the same punch of our good ol’ Stonefist. And Entropic Sphere, a freezing blizzard-like vortex. I don’t love all the singularity/planet-y stuff, it’s a little too Mass Effect for me (I get it, void/entropy, but still). I’m excited to play mage and love pretty much all of these abilities, but I’m missing more Dragon Age-ness in that mage skill tree, though, if I’m being totally honest.

Yeah, the choice of art style is what’s most jarring and really hard to swallow, of all things. I’m low-key trying to de-program my eyeballs and mind, doing some major mental gymnastics to like lean into it, try to accept and embrace it, to be able to enjoy the game, like, real talk. Because, it is what it is… 🤷♀️ The best CC they’ve ever given us, the best hair tech and options I’ve ever seen, and this is the style they decide to go with… kinda boggles the mind. Actually a little heartbreaking, tbh.

Mana clash where? Crushing Prison to. Hell even Rezaren did that one. There’s not a lot of spells to choose from (lots of traits and passives though, which I like). Inquisition did it best with the skill trees, IMO. They should’ve put all the elemental, plus healing (and more spells!) in the general tree, that every mage can do. Then Spellblade for close-quarters combat, Death Caller = Necromancy, and gone full Force Mage for Evoker.

David Gaider @davidgaider.bsky.social-snip- Yeah, the choice of art style is what’s most jarring and really hard to swallow, of all things. It's fine to say that you don't jive with the style they chose. That was true to any DA chapter, or any piece of creative work, really. Eye of the beholder, and all that. But I'd appreciate if people talked about how DAVe art direction is not for them, individually, and not make it seem like everyone disapproves of it. I, for one, quite enjoy it. And I know I'm not the only one.

Here I am thinking the character models look better than ever. XD and I don’t see a real difference in style in the environments. I can still see the distinct architectural styles for elven vs dwarven vs Tevinter. Trees are trees. lol
Darkspawn have apparently gotten a redesign and I haven’t looked close enough at one to see if, but aside from that, i like it. Just feels like Inquisition, but with less jagged edges in the models to me.
