I enjoyed the post on reddit that talked about the Steam tags for this game  Good. Make it the gayest DA ever. Between that and the two episode Agatha drop I shall eat well this week I now need to go dark before the reviews drop. Because I know me, and I will end up going down a rabbit hole of the most toxic and angry ones for some reason. It's like when I go into the comment section of particular news articles. That's never a smart move and yet I can't seem to stop myself. Like I just want to ruin my whole day even though I am on the side of the dead internet theory so it shouldn't matter. I think I am anticipating around a 6-7 average in these reviews. With the the ones who got more exclusives like IGN giving it 8's. The games that have been reviewing well lately I haven't been loving so maybe the worse it does the happier I'll be!? I am still hyped but I am, day by day absolutely living the 'We are so back/It's so over' meme. Right. I can do this. I'm about to hand in my notice at work so I will actually have to do my job and not just browse everything but for the next few days. Then, as I bought the physical game - on Thursday I shall stand by my front door, heavy breathing, looking through my peep hole, waiting. Good luck everybody. |

To kill time until the release, I watched a bunch of videos of DAI: The Dawn Will Come. I had forgotten how much of an impact that scene had on me.
So, it raised the bar a bit. But just a bit and my gut is telling me that Veilguard is going to destroy that bar. Four days...
Oh, and Rook's Coffer is also scheduled for delivery on the 31st.

Moments like these def make me long for Larian's approach with early access. Since I could just experience moments myself instead of having to wait for embargo to lift and dodge twitter until that point... le sigh. Oh well. Well you say that, but it comes with its own set of problems. I didn't experience EA, but I've noticed it results with a subset of fans who either complain excessively that something was removed, or think that things that were in EA - but were later cut out - are still a part of canon, as if completely misunderstanding how creative process works.

My only gripe regarding potential spoilers is if they come with a strong flavor of "it's woke garbage, Bioware failed their fans, the game sucks". I honestly just want to play the game and form my own opinions. But, because I'm me, there's a very good chance I'll find something I like about Veilguard even if the rest of the world hates it.
That's why I'm not worried so far.
All the criticism I hear is either reasonable (imho) and something I might agree with, yet can look past - or it's reminisicent of most other instances of "the popular opinion" we've been through many times before, and something I usually love.
I don't care about "pandering" to anyone, because I'm old enough to understand that the off chance of just one single human being more enabled to forget about the woes of their life and be as immersed as possible, by default beats any half-assed pseudo scientific follow up argument ("because it's just bad writing/not realistic/cultural apropriation!") as if that wasn't what games are all the fuck about.
We all love to pick things apart, cause it's fun to get a likemind's take on something. But here's my confession:
I want entertaining gameplay and that ol' BioWare drill - Find companions, find favourites, make everyone awesome, have interesting talks between missions. The plot, any plot, is usually dumb if you just distill it dry enough like the critics do. I honestly was never that concerned with the danger of Saren, but I did get excited like a sheepdog when Ashley or Kaidan had 3 new random thoughts they told me about. They earned my trust well enough to write something that doesn't make me groan like early 2000s arcade light gun shooter dialogue, so...
I'm not worried.

It happens so often in storytelling that there's a meme for that.

It happens so often in storytelling that there's a meme for that. Some of it, sure. I can see why they would cut the halfling werewolf character that was datamined, or why they changed Daisy. I still find Wyll inexcusable though, and they kept softening Shadowheart as well. Plus much of Act 3 on initial release was a mess anyway. Actually I still find act 3 very messy from a structural standpoint, but at least it's no longer insulting.

Boomstick Gaming appears to be teasing a Veilguard vid tomorrow (I assume it's Veilguard, he mentions it's embargoed to someone he replies to). Whatever game he's talking about, he was addicted! *staying away from the Launch Trailer as I don't want to spoil anything. I've watched a bit of the Character Creation video, maybe 5 minutes...and I've listened to Vows & Vengeance which I enjoyed. But I really want to be completely blown away and surprised by what I see when I finally get to download and play the game myself on Friday or Saturday. So after today I am going dark.
