That's more map border than you can see in the end product, so that's cool. There a link to a larger pic?
Right now that's all we have (click to make larger). Twitter's compression does tend to do a number on them...
Perchance to dream of my new map wallpaper and Tevinter Nights ...
I need nor expect nothing from EA Play ...

I don’t think Patrick or Brianne are in any position of power to show us something about the game. Darrah might have some influence, but I guess the last decision would be in Casey Hudson’s hands.
I’m probably being too harsh on the writers; it was likely a directive from higher up and they didn’t have any choice in the matter. Still, I dislike how the change was made, and I can’t help but feel that Ventus was probably the least imaginative replacement name they could come up with.
I'm still waiting for the explanation of exactly who was so confused they felt they had to do make the change in the first place. I can almost guarantee it isn't anyone who ever played the games.

Everyone: But where is the sound of people intermittently yelling "F**K!!" at the tools?
Even if it was someone who had played the games, surely it wouldn't take long to eventually figure out the difference. Maybe give it a few days? Anyway...what's done is done.

Nah. Could be easily changed back, plus some in-game lore/fluff for justification. Certain (in)famous cities in the ex-eastern bloc have been renamed several times in a few decades.

I've mentioned this on a another thread, but ever since I heard about the change from Qarinus to Ventus, I've been wondering if the next game intends to give us more information about the founding of the Grey Wardens and the first Blight. More than qunari and Qarinus, I could see people mixing up names and spellings if the next DA game decided to shine more light on the founder of the Order: Carinus.
I don't know as a writer who has recently had not one but TWO editors come to me and tell me that my names were too similar to each other in one case I do have a bit more sympathy on the matter. Some people really are that...undescerning.
Though as a matter of personal taste this does annoy me rather tremendously since I want to go with GRRMs logic on the matter. Trust your audience to know the difference in the characters.

It says something about a creator's opinion of their target audience if they don't trust them to know the difference between somewhat similar names.
Readers of A Song of Ice and Fire didn't seem to have any trouble to distinguish between Osha the wilding and Asha Greyjoy, but the makers of the Game of Thrones TV show didn't trust their viewers, so Asha Greyjoy became Yara Greyjoy. Both were fierce women, so people might actually be excused for the occasional mixup. But to be thought unfit to tell the difference between a city and an entire culture feels somewhat insulting.
But then again, this is the company that had three different spellings for the Heleus/Helius/Helios cluster in MEA's pre-release marketing materials.

...I fail to see what one has to do with the other?
If my many years of gaming has demonstrated anything is that things tend to change pre release all the time.

?
It was in the material released one or two weeks before release, after the game had gone gold. You'd think they would have figured out the cluster's name by then.

"Trust your audience to know the difference..."
Hm...
Seems to me that the Witcher TV series (season 1) did just that. Many were confused and could not follow what was going on because Geralt's weekly adventure jumped in time... backwards and to the present. Trusting your audience is fine as long as clear directions are given. .. ie: "3 years ago....". Unfortunately, the writers/director forgot to give that clarity.

I can understand the change, especially if it's a place we'll wind up going to. Qarinus, which is currently under the control of the Qunari, but in Tevinter... yeah, I get it.
The change isn't for the hardcore like us, but for the millions of other players that make up the majority of sales. Sure, they could have tried to explain it in game, but this way they wouldn't have to. (Hell, even I didn't know Dorian was from Qarinus until it became "a thing". )

Wow, I'd forgotten about him. Now that actually does make sense and explains why they couldn't just change Qarinus to Carinus. I still feel that someone should have noticed the problem about Qarinus and the Qun long before now considering both have been around from the beginning and the former is not just any old name but the ancient tribe that occupied the eastern kingdom and was incorporated into the Imperium. That was why I felt that a civilisation that so values their past would not just change it so easily and then to something so uninspiring with no obvious connection. It would have made more sense to change it to Ventosus as the battle presumably took place in the Ventosus Straits. Instead we have a city called "Wind". I suppose it does lend itself to some jokey references, for example "I was just passing Ventus".
I see what she's saying, but I don't know if blaming the toxicity in the fandom on the reddit is really meaningful. This kind of thing has been going on waaaaaaay longer than there's been a reddit for the games - never mind Discord, there's plenty of it on Tumblr and Twitter and message boards like this one. I actually find the Dragon Age subreddit pretty OK by the standards of video game subreddits. (Which I guess is not saying much, but there it is.)
But yeah, maybe if we're going to have an actual conversation about this a dedicated thread would be better.
Jos Hendriks @sjosz Getting a thing I helped build do the rounds for internal team playtesting to see what folks think of it and I'm just lurking in the internal discussion thread to see all the feedback. Exciting.
