Hard to have a bigger bad than someone who wants to genocide all life.
Something good about the subtitle, is that it’s sort of clear that Solas will be central to the game, and not a bait and switch for another hidden villain.
I do hope, given how they’re hyping him up in his role, that he wouldn’t end up as a lackluster antagonist after a certain point, like Corypheus.
To me that’s terrible news, since at least if his plot was a minor side one it being a mere shadow of what it could have been would have been more tolerable. Front and center though just makes it all the more insufferable. And he’s absolutely going to be another Corypheus. If only we were to play a character who saw him as something other than a genocidal old mage who wants to destroy the world to restore his own.

Look, while it's not much I'm decently content. We have a title now at least, I guess the short will be DA: DWR? I would have preferred one word again like the previous two, but I'll take it. While Solas will undoubtedly be a major antagonist I think we can expect, like with previous games, for them to have other big "side antagonists" for us to dig our teeth into. I'd rather they keep quiet about the game and make a huge drop of info once things are settled than get hyped for things that are later removed (Crestwood demo anyone?).
So all in all I'm okay with this.
Edit* Well, it seems people settled for DAD lol.

I am wondering when this subforum will be renamed "DAD"?

DA2 seemed to be all about the Qunari and the Harishok, instead it was just one part. I expect Dreadwolf to have more than one antagonists and factions.

The original title Exodus for DA 2 was a pretty fine & fitting name.

DA2 wasn’t named Dragon Age: Arishok though
DA 2 didin't have a title at all, tho. And its title should have been exodus, a title that endend its sense after 10/max 14 minutes of game.

Yeah, I can see why that’s a problem for you. For me, having him as a bait and switch would be an issue, but I was also one that would’ve been perfectly fine with the Inquisitor back as a protagonist.
I get your point on Cory-2, although I don’t think it’s necessarily out of the question for him to be nuanced…but we can only wait and see at this point. It’d have definitely be easier to do that with the Inquisitor.
My point was more about him being actually a dangerous antagonist, which Corypheus kind of stopped being after Haven.

True, but the blog posts and informations on the game focused on Hawke and his path to greatness/relevance. From previous teasers and the blog post we got today, Solas seems to have a central them.
Of course we’re going to have more antagonist/s. We had several of different relevance, for example, in Origins. It doesn’t mean that the Blight was the core theme of the game, and Solas will likely be a core character/antagonist.
Dragon Age @dragonage May the Dread Wolf take you.
Your newest adventure begins in Dragon Age: #Dreadwolf.
Gotta say, not a fan of the title. It ain't punchy enough and it hones the story in a very specific, singular point, which may be detrimental to the other themes and plot elements that we'll get to explore in the game. Not to mention it makes Solas out to be the protagonist of the game. I mean, yeah, we know he's the main big bad but the title makes me think the game is going to be about him a lot.

Ash Sevilla @nerdappropriate Cool. Can the #Dreadwolf bring back all the gear he stole from me in the last game when he decided to go a bald walkabout?
Scylla Costa @scyllacosta Hey Ash, I sent him a DM with your request. He might be busy atm.

I don't see how. There's no way the new protagonist will have an entire game's worth, or a year and a half in-universe time, of developing a bond with him as either a comrade, friend, or lover. And Solas has seemingly sworn off that persona now that his plan is underway. So the only Solas the new protagonist will experience is the one of a man who plans to genocide millions. Not much room for nuance there.
I also don't expect Solas to be better than Corypheus in that regard, considering how he's almost always operating behind the scenes or being sneaky.
I really hope that's not the title...that's very boring and easily could have been revealed back in 2020. Also would give us nothing new to speculate about.

An important milestone: I just went into my spreadsheet and updated the Hypothetical Dragon Age 4 column where I keep ideas about the race/gender/class of future protagonists so it's titled Dreadwolf Plans instead.
(Look, the Keep doesn't have enough room to store all of my world states at the same time; how else am I meant to keep track?)

I’m still waiting for the day they announce leggy as a romance option.

If he truly sworn off that side of him, I’d agree, although I’m not sure on that. The teaser about his elven form and the wolf form could hint or tie to a possible struggle of the two sides. I don’t have an issue in him being sneaky (although considering how powerful he is, they should have some scenes showcasing his powers), my issue is about him being competent. Plotting and being sneaky, if done correctly, could very well showcase how dangerous he is as an antagonist.
