There's almost no traffic in this sub forum. Nobody wants to talk about RDR2 for some reason.
Buuuut I thought I'd create a thread solely dedicated to the best part of the game. HORSES!!!
Maybe some people will feel encouraged to share pictures of their favorite horse(s). I'd love to read about the adventures you had with them, what names they were given. What happened to them. Did you guys stick with one horse throughout the entire game? Did one of your horses ever die when you had no reviver at hand. Did one get stolen? (I am aware of the scripted horse event, I mean during free roaming.)
I switch my horse every 10 hours or so. The more horses I encounter, the harder it becomes to decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell.
Every horse has their own saddle, colors picked to go with the horse's coat in an appealing way.
I've been playing the game for weeks now, dozens of hours but barely more than half of the story is done. I spend most of my time just riding around, hunting, fishing... and of course looking for every horse breed and color variation there is. The prettiest wild horses I find get to be my temporary secondary horse for a while.
I never named the very first horse you're given. I sold it at some point.
Most of my horses have a mohawk, by far the best look to me, so maybe this is going to be a boring list but please indulge me!
My ramblings will contain vague STORY SPOILERS!
OK, so here is the current picture album of my horses so far:
My second horse, the one you buy for $15 I still have.
Breed: Morgan
Mane: reddish light brown mohawk
Name: Hotshot
(This also happens to be one of my favorite pictures.)
Hotshot and Arthur went on many adventures together. Visited the famous gunslinger lady in the swamps. Hotshot watched Arthur chase his first alligator through the mud. Watched him get stabbed in an ambush not much later. They broke Mica out of prison, helped Arthur's old flame out. Little Jack rode on Hotshot's back. Together they even climbed a very tall mountain.
Eventually Arthur longed for a faster horse for the endless journeys from one meeting spot to the other. So he bought himself a fine horse in Valentine.
Breed: American Standardbred
Mane: dark brown to light brown mohawk
Name: Sugar Rush
Sugar Rush was a much bigger horse than the tiny stallion Shotshot. And finally it no longer looked like animal abuse when strapping Arthur rode his horse.
Sugar Rush, or simply "Sugar", accompanied Arthur and Charles on some business. She lived through the first camp change. Watched Arthur catch his first legendary fish. Laughed at the nature photographer. Made friends with a dog in the swamps.
Then Arthur tamed his first wild horse...
Breed: Tennessee Walker
Mane: Black to gray mohawk
Name: Gunpowder
This little black/gray lady was neither fast nor the prettiest but Arthur loved her. She was involved in the majority of business in Rhodes. Helped two young lovers exchange letters. Tagged along as Arthur helped a bunch of feminists. Gunpowder witnessed Arthur talk to a deranged crazy person at the river. She carried Arthur to his first photoshoot in Saint Denis.
Then one fateful day, Arthur stopped for a stranger on the road asking for help. The stranger stole Gunpowder and Arthur was too shocked to intervene. He chased the bandit for miles on foot but to no avail. Arthur found the saddle on the road. Gunpowder was gone...
Heartbroken, Arthur returned to camp, saddled up Sugar Rush and went adventuring again. A while later he fell in love with another wild horse.
Breed: Kentucky Saddler
Mane: black to white mohawk
Name: Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt was a big girl and together they did a lot of hunting and fishing.
Thunderbolt was also involved in a lot of shootouts. And on her back Arthur rode out to rob a bank...
After all that action, Thunderbolt was given a nice long rest at the stables.
For some reason, Arthur tamed another Morgan...
Breed: Morgan
Mane: black mohawk
Name: Whiskey
This glossy brown horse did not get to stay with Arthur all that long. The competition was just too pretty. Nevertheless, Whiskey watched Hosea masterfully distract a carriage full of rich women while Arthur robbed them quietly. Arthur rode out with Charles on a bison hunt. And afterwards Arthur had one of his favorite moments watching a thunderstorm roll in after resting at the campfire. Later that night a curious deer walked up close to Arthur and Whiskey.
When Arthur finally managed to tame an Appaloosa, poor Whiskey was sold for a few bucks...
Breed: Appaloosa
Mane: black and brown dreadlocks
Name: Mudcake
Mudcake became Arthur's horse in the Strawberry stables. She was there for the big showdown in Rhodes, together they rode through burning fields. After that highlight, she spent some time with Arthur in Saint Denis. Rode out with Arthur to help Tilly... and then she was sold fairly quickly for an expensive race horse. That wild look did not suit Arthur's new gentlemen attire he acquired to blend in with the high society in Saint Denis...
But before that, Arthur felt like taking Thunderbolt for a ride again. Together they FINALLY took down the legendary bear who mauled Arthur the first time. And visited Frankenstein's laboratory. Good time!
Breed: Turkoman
Mane: natural
Name: Gold Nugget
Arthur tamed his first dark gray Nokota and together the three of them went salmon hunting in the snowy north. Later, Gold Nugget would drop Arthur off at a fancy garden party.
So in love with the small Nokota, Arthur had to make the agonizing decision, which horse to sell for the fastest race horse in Saint Denis. Looking at the similar coloring, Arthur felt compelled to sell one of his favorite horses: Thunderbolt...
Breed: Nokota
Mane: white to black mohawk
Name: Dynamite
Putting two adults on such a tiny horse might count as abuse buuuut in any case, this fiery stallion helped Arthur and Mary have a good time. Dynamite also witnessed the unfortunate incident at Shady Belle. But mostly Arthur took him beaver and bird hunting, fishing. Riding up and down mountains is what this horse does best.
Since then, Arthur has switched to Gold Nugget again and has tamed an American Paint as a pelt mule. Together they checked out the most western part of the current map.
So in love with the new secondary horse, Arthur has resisted taming the remaining horse breeds. Just the other day he saw a mustang for the first time. Oh well...
Looking forward to other player's screenshots and stories of their horse adventures!
If not, I'll just continue posting of any new horses I might acquire. Next one to go would probably sadly be Hotshot But I reeeeeally hate selling horses. But I doubt Rockstar will increase the stable limit...
