Years ago Gaider made comments about the Fex - "a primitive, yet sapient" race native to Par Vollen - and I have no idea if that's still a thing or if him being gone means it's not. Sapience implies a human-like intelligence, but hey, mabari seem pretty sapient to me so maybe the Fex aren't humanoid at all. There are the Scaled Ones who appear in codex entries/murals in DAI, and while I've heard people say that this is just an in-joke about krogan, this doesn't look precisely like a krogan to me. It looks more like one of D&D's lizardfolk. They've got some creepy blood magic shit. I'll be honest, I am DOWN for some lizardpeople in DA. There are the kossith, or whatever "qunari" were before they were... manufactured... what did the qunari look like before dragon blood entered the picture? Were they elves? Were they another race from far away, considered easy pickings for experimentation..? We know that spirits have their own sort of personhood, and can take on a human form as Cole does. It's likely that the ancient elves were some kind of spirit-people at one point. The Lady of the Forest looked vaguely human-ish when she wasn't a werewolf or a floaty spirit light. And there are werewolves, but the ones we saw in DAO were just cursed humans. They weren't raising werewolf babies afaik..... but wait. They had to have been, because they couldn't revert to human form unless the curse was broken, and the ones we met were descendents of the ones who earned Zathrian's ire. WEREWOLF BABIES CONFIRMED??!! There are darkspawn, who're basically Tainted versions of the four core races, but they can't maintain a population (or can they..??) without the others so I'm not sure if they count. Given what lies beyond "known" Thedas - those from beyond the sea, the rest of the Voshai, the mysterious inhabitants of Par Ladi, whatever's east of the Amaranthine sea that makes people go crazy, whatever drove the Qunari from their original homeland to Par Vollen, how the human inhabitants of Par Vollen "knew" the Qunari were coming, where the hell did humans even come from anyway? There's so much in the lore and I think there's room for new races in DA. Years ago I didn't like this idea at all because I felt like DA had a better-than-average grasp of their core races and I didn't need the setting to become a fantasy kitchen sink like, say, the Forgotten Realms. But as we learn more about what's off the map, I really think there is room to grow and add whole new intelligent species to the mix. Here's a useful video if you want to get caught up on what we know about the mysterious world outside of Thedas proper:

I actually think that introducing new species from beyond the known map would be okay, provided it was properly explained why their existence was not known about. I'd rather it not be like the Titans, where the entire population of world has apparently suffered massive amnesia to not remember anything about their existence.
I also found the ghasts and giants rather incongruous in DA2 and DAI respectively. I can just about cope with a species like the ghasts having become confined to one small area of the Vimmark Mountains due to pressure from other dominant species but giants suddenly started cropping up all over the place, not just in remote mountainous regions, which made me wonder why we had never encountered them in previous games, particularly DAO. Also why were there no darkspawn based off these humanoid species?
At present, I'd rather them not spend too many resources introducing new species/races whilst the current Solas plot is still active. Where they might be interesting would be in future instalments of the series. So whatever the outcome of the current plot, there would still be plenty of room for developing the world, for example by having the PC be part of a party of explorers who specifically set out to discover what lies in those areas previously unexplored.

First off, we don’t know that mural is of a Scaled One. It’s not far from the Greater Mistral; maybe it’s just a warning sign indicating “Dragons like to nest here.” If you were trying to warn future people who didn’t speak the same language, you’d use images, not words. Secondly, the mural is similar in shape to a krogan. If you were an Theodosian artist working off a rough description, you’d borrow draconic features to fill in the blanks.

I want bioware to END the current problem: mage-templar war and then focus on Darkspawn that is the core conflict of THEDAS.

Also why were there no darkspawn based off these humanoid species? I forgot about giants. They kind of bothered me, because it's not like they appeared on the fringes of the map... they're just roaming around Southern Thedas. They look sort of humanoid, but are they supposed to be that or are they more like monstrous animals? First, we don’t know that mural is of a Scaled One. True... but I still like the idea of lizardpeople. Maybe the mural was a krogan shoutout, but the description from the "Forgotten War" codex entry has their jaws being able to open up and wrap around a face, them being scaly, attacking in the dark, etc. So I think there's still something there, even if the mural's unrelated.

I'll note that the basis of my "Scaled Ones are krogan" theory is based on the fact that there's a krogan head with a dwarven axe in it right next to the last Forgotten Ones codex. If I hadn't discovered that, I probably would have thought there were lizardmen in the Deep Roads as well.
I’m personally willing to bet coin that werewolves will come back in a big way for DA4. Solas obviously needs some muscle for whatever he’s doing, or the elven army would be unnecessary. But an untrained elf isn’t much use as a fighter. Turn him into a werewolf, however, and you’ve got a deadly warrior who needs no weapons aside from his claws, and who can convert others into soldiers for the Dread Wolf.
And if we get werewolf enemies, we might get a werewolf party member. Or maaaaaaybe a werewolf romance?
(Don't look at me like that. If you can have sex with a turian, you can have sex with a werewolf. Especially if they're the kind that go from human/elf to wolf and back and again.)

Ooh, I like this. I'd bet money bald elf wizard Zathrian delved deep into ancient elven magic for that werewolf spirit binding transformation curse. Maybe it's been used before. Maybe it will be used again. 👀

I really like the idea of lizard folk or yaun-ti like people. I always liked the marilith as well, but instead of just being women maybe a race of multi-armed-half-snake-people. There's always mere people too, GDT made it cool to romance fish persons. 😁🧜♂️🧜♀️

Other than more half human/half elf/half dwarf/half Qunari, so basically half breeds? Probably not. But I would like to see more of the human once werewolf folk make an appearance and maybe be recruitable. Shapeshifters could also make an interesting addition

I'm not so much for more races. I'm more for Cultural exploration:
Definitely need more Qunari Culture would like more Dwarven Culture (less titans please, more Kal Sharok) Tevinter Culture for sure Rivaini Fog Warriors What are the Antivans like when they arent crows? Would like to hear about those Guerilla blood magic red eyed using Dalish-that-aren't-Dalish groups Still don't get what was going on with the Chasind, exactly, in DAO Those mysterious folk over the sea
If they fill in the current world they've got, then I'll be ready for them to ADD entire races.

I've been super curious about the Fex ever since they were first name-dropped.
What about introducing one as a potential companion? Make them completely unintelligible to us, but able to understand our language (to a degree) due to having spent time in a Tevinter circus as a "curiosity". Maybe they join us in gratitude from freeing them from there?
And I'd love to see how a Fex would react to a Qunari protagonist.

Although lizardpeople are almost as much of a cliche, at this point. Lol.
