Pete Hines @dcdeacon It’s after Starfield, which you pretty much know nothing about. So if you’re coming at me for details now and not years from now, I’m failing to properly manage your expectations.
Skyrym to TES VI will have a larger time gap than DAI to DA4 will have.
And that is without Bethesda having hellish game development production stealing devs in-between like BioWare. They just choose to not to work on the sequel to their most popular game for near an entire decade.

Kinda amazing.
No kidding...
So Pete, what are we looking at here... 2025?
Well, Skyrim was pretty much an evergreen game for them (like GTA V is for Rockstar), so there probably wasn't a huge incentive to dive into the next one. And adding a brand new franchise to the mix (Starfield) would have pushed things back as well.
I have a feeling they also took the time to build a new engine for for ES6, or greatly revamp the exiting one. A few years back they were talking about not having the technology yet to do what they wanted with the next game.

Nah, they are just waiting to re-release Skyrim for the PS5 and Series X which they have been doing instead of working on other games for awhile for it never sounded like they outsourced that development to third parties and did it all in house. Not exactly sure what you are meaning with "stealing devs" the reason why they aren't working on Elder Scrolls is because their entire team is working on Starfield (and probably another Skyrim port). That sounds like those developers were "stolen" because nobody really knows where Dragon Age was in the development window when everything else was happening and it was never reported either so it could be developers were re-assigned because there wasn't work to be done on Dragon Age yet.
[edit] Wouldn't those developers then be also classified as "stolen" from the development of Elder Scrolls because they will be working on Starfield. Just like when the developers were moved from BioWare Edmonton to work on Anthem or Andromeda we really don't know where in development Dragon Age 4 was for it could have seen been in the concept phase of development. [/edit - I think that reads better]

DA4 started full development around MEA release, the devs didn't hide it even if it was never officially announced (it's something that is never officially announced anyway). Six months later they were pulled to work on Anthem, including DA executive producer Mark Darrah (the head of the Dragon Age team) and DA was "announced" (I can't remember if it was official or Kotaku) to go back into pre-production.
As for TES, like I said, Bethesda choose to not work on it. Their main team has been on Starfield for like 8 years now and it's not coming out this year and probably not in 2021 either going by Todd's comments. Their other teams are working on mobile games, ports and Fallout 76. I remember people being pissed Zenimax was doing a TES MMO because they were sure wouldn't make SP games again...and they were probably right.

Maybe EA should try using this engine for Mass Effect Remastered.
And pay Tim Sweeney royalty fees? Never!
As far as I know, margins from Bioware titles have been slim and royalties to EPIC would, potentially, kill the revenue stream. On the other hand, a better produced game in UE5 could bring enough sales to compensate for it. Or it could be a marginal increase that only covers the UE5 royalties. At least Bioware would have a better face in the industry and that's a good price to pay for it. At least, in my opinion.
When I die, I want Bioware to carry my casket, so they can let me down, one last time.
My understanding is there are problems just going from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4, going to Unreal 5 might mean they would just as easily go to Frostbite.
Not only that, but certain versions of the same engine conflict with each other, breaking the game. So, while it is possible to go back and fix those conflicts ... it may not be that effective. It would still be more friendly than porting it over to Frostbite, but it would still be a daunting task.

Yeah, we'd be entering remake territory, but it could be worth it. Although Andromeda was already a remake of the original Mass Effect, sorta, so I doubt they'd want to actually go there.
Of all the things I've seen on the battlefields of the Frontier, the Pilot is the true dominant force.

I was out this morning, so I didn't get a chance to see it until now. It's a nice tech demo for sure, but... all tech demos are nice.
Rock and metal don't impress me that much, because we've able to do a good job with those for a long time.
Render dense, realistic forests, foliage, grass, believably animated, with abundant wildlife/npcs, ray-traced lighting, and realistic water behavior out the horizon, then I'll be impressed.
Have characters believably move through tall grass, foliage, muck, water, etc., then I'll be impressed.
Have realistic destruction/manipulation of every element in the environment, then I'll be impressed.

Pretty much all of this. Jedi Fallen Order was a very nice looking game - in the 'tech' environments. In the wilderness environments it left a LOT to be desired.
Edit: Disclaimer - I hadn't watched the whole thing when I initially posted this (got interrupted by one of the kids ). I've just finished the whole video and I remain largely unimpressed by 90% of it. It looked good, don't get me wrong. But it was barely better than Shadow of the Tomb Raider on my PC. At least, until the very end when she lights up the yelllow/gold orby thing and starts flying and wall running. Now, the speed/blur can probably obfuscate shortcuts and deficiencies but that looked cool. No two ways about it.

The one thing about Fallen Order as well is that Respawn hit a technical bug with the game when doing a large zone transition. So its not a flawless engine either, so it really becomes what the studio wants to go in their choice for graphical direction and just because the demo looks like this it doesn't mean that BioWare made the game look like something from the 90's either if that is what they want to do.
If you can commit the resources to photogrammetry in Frostbite, it looks amazing even in current gen.
The first thought I had was "imagine what BioWare could do with that?" just like all the Unreal engine comments, but I think the level of snark was a little too high.
What I do think it represents what Frostbite capable of if the development team has enough time to get it ready for everything they want it to do. That is what I think the problem BioWare encountered they didn't have enough time or expertise in house to get everything they needed done and miscalculated how much time they needed to get that accomplished. The other stance I have is that unlike going from Dragon Age: Inquisition to Anthem building upon one another, I don't think Mass Effect: Andromeda build on what they learned from Dragon Age: Inquisition just based on the reports I have read. I just think BioWare needed at least another year learning the engine and building what they needed before going to a new game, but that is also expensive when I have read the estimated average cost for a game developer is $10,000 a month.
I think I will end that here, for otherwise this will become a longer conversation that doesn't belong in the "News".

Yeah it does for all it's flaws in terms of animating people and faces as I think it does struggle a little with that. It's great at making great looking locations on it heck even footbal staduims in Fifa look pretty decent. For example I've been to Tottenham's old White Hart Lane ground and it looks awesome in Fifa 17 in the Frostbite engine when I go to play a match there on it.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I don't fall for those tech demos anymore, show me ingame footage with the engine if you want me to be impressed with anything.
