Activision's mark of shame 'branding' for not buying DLC appears to have been caused by a display bug:

I like the idea of 'Let people know what they are buying' and I would go one further than the article. If your game has gambling mechanics, then it should be regulated by gambling laws. I am NOT against microtransactions. I am not even against the microtransactions that are clearly not just cosmetic. I AM against random chance gambling mechanics.
Show people what they are getting for the money you are asking. It's common courtesy to do so. Gambling is segregated from normal commerce in society for many reasons and the same should hold for gaming.
I don't even advocate for zero gambling in games. If the developers want gambling, then fine have gambling. At that point it needs to be regulated as gambling though. No sliming around regulations by playing loose with the fact that the law hasn't caught up to the digital age. That is just dishonest.
I would also advocate for a resurgence of games offering 'demos'. Or in cases where demos are not available every digital storefront should have a return policy like Steam. If you don't play for more than 2 hours and are not satisfied, return the product for full refund.

If you don't play for more than 2 hours and are not satisfied, return the product for full refund. While I'd love to get free demo periods or at least a return-period like Steam has, I'd actually be willing to even pay some amount for demo-time where the demo-cost could be applied to the final purchase but not otherwise be able to 'refund' it. Just to throw a number out there, something like $5 for 2-hrs of hands-on for a $60 game. I'd rather try out 12 different games for $60 than buy one and it turns out I don't like it but not be able to have my purchase refunded. I can't say I've thought this out very well, so there are probably lots of flaws, it just occurred to me as I was reading your post.

Doesn't matter to me, I save my money for other games / devs. You are probably aware of this since an official response was made but just saying it for others reading, It was just one dev/staff having an unprofessional reaction. otherwise 4A is bunch of PC devs and Metro is more of a PC series which is part of the reason for such a backlash. What he said is still wrong though so i understand even though the rest of the dev team aren't necessarily to blame. platform decision is made by Deep Silver that is owned by THQ and THQ even have a deal for Xbox games on PC let alone their own things. overall whole thing seems to be heading toward tragedy as a result of Deep Silver's deal with EG which is a shame cause the game seems to be solid as expected.

Yes, I'm aware of the official response to the rant. I understand the dev's frustration. My stance hasn't change on Epic Games however. I'm not supporting their games platform until they make improvements / address user concerns and knock off the exclusivity BS. Sticking to Steam and GOG. There could be games I'd be interested in and not able to get to. It doesn't bother me, I can enjoy the story of the games on YT or on Twitch Stream.

Oboy...connecting violent games to school shootings again eh?.... ....these idiots simply do not realize violent video games have nothing to do with school shootings.....people who do those things have had something wrong with them waaaay before they implemented the shooting...might as well tax violent movies an tv shows as well. And lol in using the extra cash for a good cause....they are currently saying that about social security that will be bankrupt in the foreseeable future from those clowns dipping into it for decades now....

Based on the online reaction it seems Exdous won't have good sales so that may make Epic second guess their store exclusive deal but we will see or it can make developers second guess it too. its kinda like Mixer vs Twitch were you get paid short term but in the long run may damage yourself.

New Oxford University study finds no link between violence in video games and teenage aggression.
"The idea that violent video games drive real-world aggression is a popular one, but it hasn't tested very well over time,"
"Despite interest in the topic by parents and policy-makers, the research has not demonstrated that there is cause for concern."
"A cherry-picked result can add undue weight to the moral panic surrounding video games. The registered study approach is a safeguard against this,"
Lead researcher Professor Andrew Przybylski, director of research at the Oxford Internet Institute.

Personally, I find doing battles in video games to be more relaxing than aggression building and they help maintain focus. If they're gonna be blaming aggression on anything, they should first be looking at home life and community. Many of these kids are getting bullied, either at home or at school. It's easier to point fingers than it is to accept the causes may be homegrown.

Well, they can build my aggression when the boss kills me for the ninth time even though I was totally behind cover so they shouldn’t have been able to hit me the cheating bastar- *sounds of incoherent rage go on for some time* But that’s why I don’t play Dark Souls or similar games.

I found the worst part of Dark Souls was the limited movement. Jumping sucked. But I hear the game was meant to test your patience? I love that you get a skill point the first time you die..."Welcome to Dark Souls"

well despite there assurances otherwise when lootboxes are generally some from of RNG that often turns out useless white items when you already have a dozen of the exact same thing there not "enhancing game play" if all loot boxes were done in a similar way to me3's loot crates I wouldn't see them as problematic (other than the price) but when virtually nobody else does things this way I cant say the same thing what you need is for a rule that states you must not be given lesser quality items than those already held, (so if they want to add 30 versions of the same gun each one a progression of the previous one like MEA had then fine, becasue your always getting something better to fill out your inventory) and that of course slims down the margins for profit so unless the FTC makes it happen it probably wont, and lets face it they probably wont do anything about it so long as the items are non transferable since the "no real world value" hold true only when you cant sell or trade them.... I made good money in one game from selling cash shop items, of course its also the game I made money selling alt accounts in since I had a power levelling system that worked really well and a lot of people didnt want to spend a month or more levelling up their toon when I could sell them one I created 4 days earlier (most of them were unaware you could generate your skills afk overnight faster the higher level you were) now that game had a real casino style cash shop loot box, you could literally waste hundreds of bucks on a $2 item before you got the one you wanted
