Your Last Solo in Whatever

Decided to attempt a U/U/Gold with my trusty Havoc since no one was joining my lobby. To this day I've never successfully completed a Gold solo, either because it was a pug and someone joined 30 seconds from extraction or because I died/got sync killed horribly. That Lone Wolf banner is mighty tempting though...



Oh ffuuuuuu---

First couple of waves aren't too bad. Then I get this.



By some miracle (by which I mean copious stim packs) I finish the upload only 1 medigel/missile down.

Wave 4 pretty easy. Ravagers go down in 3-4 shots and Brutes aren't much tougher. The only real annoyance is Cannibal spam.

Time for Wave 5...



Ugh. After meticulously picking off all the other mobs I finally manage to down the dreaded Banshee duo in relative peace.

Wave 6. By some stroke of luck I get pizza delivery.



Not too hard, though with the second object the sticky terrain kept me from running it through the last third of of the distance. Many Ravager shots were fired into my poor Havoc's exposed posterior before I made it to the safety of the extraction area.

For Wave 7 I repeated my strategy of running around like a headless chicken spraying Wraith fire into everything that moves while desperately avoiding any possibility of contact with the dreaded Banshee magnet fingers.

Wave 8 is much the same. Finally, I'm down to what looks like a Brute, a Ravager, and of course a pair of Banshees. Let me just pick up some ammo and---

Well, there's always next time I guess.......

I feel for both of you. One of my silver solos ended with a broken keyboard  when I got disconnected on the extraction wave... 

Allow me to commend you for authoring such a heartfelt post despite the hideous sabotage the servers have wrought on you. I would give you 10 likes if possible!

Long story short:

Overconfidence

Sometimes this game reminds me of real life.

I'll start by saying I've played by now with good players, I've played with very good players, some of them I'd even call experts. I know now enough to say I am what I'd call a decent player. I will not let down my team and in a pinch I might be able to carry through gold, perhaps through platinum. But do not expect me to do wonders.

Now back to my title. I decided to complete again my solo challenge on PS3, so I start by trying my latest beloved: the Hinf/Claymore. I fire up bronze U/U. What can the game throw at me that I cannot do? I am a big boy. I know to reload cancel, I know where to expect the spawns to appear or to reappear (especially on solos), I know wave composition etc. What's the worst that can happen?

Well it's London/Reapers. OK, not too bad. I've 10 headshots by the end of w2, everything is going fine; but it's devices on w3 (on London it is a nightmare) and I end up with less a Gel and one missile. OK, I can live through that.

Comes w6, it's devices again. I get three of them in the intersection (the middle) where you're mostly unprotected and the ennemy can get to you very quick. So I finish up with only one missile left. But I still don't get the message...

W7 - 20 headshots, nice; w8 and w9 - no problem. Comes w10 and you've probably already guessed, it's again devices. The first two aren't so bad, I finish them after I kite them around,  but the third is in the middle, so there goes my last missile; comes the fourth it's near the shop and I'm left with 30s. I run to it and start it, but a Ravager on the far stairs calmly downs me... I gel, but it's already late as the last brute is near me and I am out of time...

The morals of the story? In this game (as in real life) do not take anything for granted; you never know what shit it may throw at you.

P.S. Useles to say, next one was Dagger/Reapers and I did it flawlessly...

Carries, many waves by me and one wave by the two pugs. Dagger/Derperus/Silver; I was AIU specced for melee as usual. I bailed the pugs out of many bad situations until wave 10 escort across the courtyard - somehow I got synched from behind by an Atlas of all things (and I wasn't karate kicking this one).

Well, good for these two pugs (an okay Valkyrie and a very inexperienced HFSol); they completed the escort and managed to kill the remaining two Atlases.

Unfortunately, my mic wasn't hooked up and I had not booted the console, so I couldn't tell them not to camp the LZ. So they did exactly that.

I was able to sneak into the back porch LZ under cloak and revive one of them before retreating off to the far corner with the ammo box, hoping they would follow me. They did not. So when 15 seconds came rolling around, I slapped on noob matrix, cloaked, and found an LZ that looked like an Atlas truck stop with lots of Phantoms hanging out waiting for them to get off shift. At 0:04 my cloak ran out, they all started shooting, I leapt into the LZ, fired off an ops pack, and we extracted.

I gotta tell you all I am still not all that comfortable carrying, even on Silver. I guess it's the knowledge that players who are below my level - or FAR above it - are watching me and evaluating my performance. I feel like I'm gonna get a ticket in the mail from a red light camera

A couple of Silver solos trying to farm Guardians. Defeated by aggro from Mrs. Saikyo

I had some ridiculous fun this evening doing a lolbronze solo as Spitfire volus, purely for the lulz. White/Reapers; escort, hack (which I failed to glitch because he moves so slowly, so had to do in bits), escort. Took about half an hour (which I'd like to say was due to the ridiculous setup, but is in fact about normal for me...)

It's a pretty funny setup, though I wouldn't take it anywhere near a public game.

So silver with Geth juggernaut to finish off hex shield points, got bugs on Giant, so was in the entry of the building and just spamming it, those guys just kept on walking in it or i kept respawning it and getting those pesky bugs staggered. Finished with 10 waves survived (but with half of my op packs used)

ME3 = Long live space magic...

I was going for flawless, but wave 10 got targets. Anyhow that was another Solo Mastery on the road to 100.
