Update on Alliance System and Guildswww.reddit.com/r/AnthemTheGame/comments/am7wx2/update_on_alliance_system_and_guilds/Hey! Some of you have been asking about more details when it comes to our Alliance System, Guilds and general awards for playing together. We believe Anthem is a game best played with friends and to make that experience awesome, we need to have social systems to make playing with friends easier. With that in mind, I figured I would drop in here and offer up some extra details on what that experience will look like at launch and beyond. The Alliance System – “What is That & How Does it Work?”The Alliance system is a way for you and your friends to be rewarded for playing the game. Anytime you complete an expedition (Mission, Contract, Freeplay, Stronghold) you earn experience. That experience also goes into the Alliance system. Even better, the experience from the OTHER people in your group also goes into the alliance system. Even better STILL, players on your friends list who play without you - THEIR experience also goes into the Alliance System. At the end of every week, you are awarded Coin (our in-game earned currency, used to purchase various items throughout the game) based on how much experience was contributed to the Alliance System. There are several tiers you can work through each week as well as a weekly cap. We want to encourage players to form friendships and play together and we’ve created the Alliance System to do just that! Guilds – “What About Those?”The short answer is, Guilds will not be available at launch. While we believe the Alliance System is a great way to encourage social interaction with Anthem, we also understand Guilds play a critical role in helping players form organized groups with people of similar interests and play styles. Our goal is to release guilds as soon after launch as we can. Details on timing will come as soon as we have our plan locked in. We want this to be awesome. Thank you all for being a part of this awesome community. I hope you’re all enjoying our Open Demo. More soon! Ben @benirvo

The amount of "Not at launch" statements on things that would be essential to a online-only game like this (text chat, clans/guilds, etc) kinda shows it wasn't ready for prime time. Though the fundamentals are there for a fun game (assuming you like the genre), it likely needed another 6-9 months before release; and not just for QoL updates. I'll still check it out, since I am having fun in the demo.

Rumors suggest it was supposed to release during the Fall of last year, but it got delayed till now. A lot of the reasons for why most AAA games (especially in the west) aren't given more time, is due to earnings calls being on a seasonal basis (every 3-4 months). Since Anthem is the only game EA has coming out during this season, it's imperative on them to release the game; otherwise it looks bad for investors.

It was probably scheduled for fall release before they rebooted it into an online-only looter shooter.
Anyway this is yet again pointlessly confusing nonsense from this game. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Just have guilds/clans! Also in a way it's pretty much another ripoff of Destiny's clans, with D2 awarding you loot when people in your clan accomplish things.

I don't play MMO's, but I always thought being in a clan gave rewards and benefits. Doesn't Warframe have benefits to clan systems? I remember the Dojo system, but I never joined a clan and I stopped playing once I got to Saturn.

There are always benefits to guilds like extra storage and areas to do things like trading but D2 is the only game I know of that awards (awarded? I haven't played since Warmind) loot drops just by being in a clan. Assuming people in the clan actually do shit of course. In Warframe you use the clan to get certain item schematics, but the only real material award I can think of is getting a bunch of free Endo when you do an ascension ceremony.

Or, more than likely, I'd say: a.) they want to have a busy live service schedule and add things between significant content updates. b.) things like guilds and some other systems are probably best developed and tested AFTER launch, when they'll make sure that the base game is stable before they start adding stuff.

I don't necessarily think it's bad that they're giving you a material (though in this case - monetary) bonus for playing with others. Considering that people are concerned that grinding for cosmetics will take too long, any system that increases the amount of coin we earn is useful. I'm not only curious about how much coin will be reward on an activity vs difficulty scale, but also how much we could get from the weekly alliance system, and the daily/weekly/monthly assignments.

Yep...it's a bunch of nonsense cooked up by some disgruntled posters here. Basically, the logic is "we think it happened so therefore it happened". Pretty flawless...

Pretty flawless... I'm not even sure how it could be claimed. Because Anthem has and will have some growing pains, as many multiplayer games of that scope usually have? Nothing really suggests that Anthem's concept has significantly changed, I mean... what it was supposed to be before it got rebooted into co-op looter-shooter? Is it really that unbelievable to think that Bioware would like to do something different for a change and that they always liked multiplayer and people playing together and tried to cram multiplayer/co-op mode where they could - and may have wanted to make such games for a while now and they got their chance after ME trilogy got wrapped?

It's not the first time they attempted something like this either. "Shadow Realms", initially being developed at Austin, was a CO-OP game that eventually had to be cancelled due to other developmental needs.

And it appears that a large chunk of Austin is working on Anthem now.

Hm... The Alliance System sounds like a Community Pool. The Weekly Cap, unfortunately, penalizes the group/individuals. Internal testing must have shown it's very successful at generating COIN. Hence the Cap to limit a player's gains.
This Alliance System works like a Clan/Guild, imo. ... as far as generating extra COIN. Unfortunately the solo player is left out on a limb. This game is skewed towards herding the players away from the solo adventures.

You can already benefit by having people in your friends list, you don't even have to play together to benefit. I guess most BSN members that play will add each other to their friend list and can benefit, even if they prefer to play solo.

Had to wade through a lot of salt to get to this essential point. The headline isn't NO GUILDs, the headline is FREE COIN FOR ZERO EFFORT! Calling all mods, SofaJockey , DragonRacer , @grinch : can we get permathreads, or maybe whole subs, made for Alliance formation? We'll need one each for PC, PS4 and Xbox. Might consider combining with LFG, but on the other hand, people may already have a group, but want to pad out their Alliances with BSN members. As currently formulated, there's no downside to padding out, so maybe all we need is a single thread per platform with people posting their Origin/EA account name (or whatever is required to be added to an Alliance), and we can just have one big one.

I can see a case for including the current LFG threads as they are essentially 'friend finders' not 'live' Looking For Group threads. Thoughts?

"Friend Finder" general threads, where one benefit is adding to Alliances, sounds good to me. Trying to confirm is once in an Alliance, you can't be in another. Might not be the case, since they explicitly mention "friends lists", which are not exclusive. Also note that playing with pubs fills your Alliance bucket too. It's basically an incentive to not solo, lol.

SofaJockey , I okay, I reviewed the LFG PC OP in Anthem Coop. I'd suggest adding a bullet like this: - NEW! Add friends to your friends list, and help out other BSNers, to earn Alliance COIN. Details here.
Similar bullet for Xbox and PS4 threads.
