I prefer SP because thats how I started out playing video game, and I am acclimatized to view game is a solo activity, like reading. I do play MP from time to time, but thats just to catch up with friends from school, so we only ever play games that we used to play years ago, like CoH. I also view game is purely an entertainment medium, where feeling entitlement is fully justified, and i feel no need to compromise on my preference. I have tons of option to spent my time and its the job of developers to lure me away from better use of my time.

I haven't really tried multiplayer except for maybe a 1/2 hour of Diablo. I also tried it for 2 seconds with DA3 and one of the Uncharted games and - to be honest - I didn't really get it.
I agree with most of the comments here about figuring things out on my own and not having to interact with others.

Let's be honest though this is not Bioware's first multiplayer focused game, and the big one folks liked was neverwinter nights. It's a terrible game but brilliant toolset with multiplayer capabilities that were unique in 2002s landscape. That game thrived on online communities and dungeon modules. I feel people are severely underestimating the appeal for online play, and how much it does overlap with offline single player minded folks. Don't forget basically inventing the DLC business model with the NWN Premium Modules. In retrospect, it's like gaming finally caught up with where Bioware always wanted to be.

Bioware have always had a smug attitude of "they'll enjoy it if they try it!" when it comes to multiplayer. Never forget ME3 and EMS. Indeed i can never forget one of the best multiplayer mode that a have played up to the date or that one of Bioware's first patches contained the bugfix for the EMS system. The EMS system fix was months later for something that could easily have been patched right away. I played the game on release and so had finished the game by the time they released the fix. If they want people to buy games in the month they release, it is not good enough to patch major problems months later.

Emily (aka Domino) Taylor pentapodDear computer game players who prefer to play solo, not co-op/multiplayer ... why do you prefer to play alone? What prevents you from trying multiplayer games? (As someone who's gameplay has been very MMO-focused, I'm curious!) Sometimes I don't want to do this... Instead I want to be Bilbo wandering off the path and getting into trouble.

The only online games i play are Chess or similar games.
When they start making online games that are single player story games or a group of people story player games i will start playing them but i do not think this will be possible for quite a few years for technology to catch up.

That wasn't a major problem, a game breaking bug is a major problem, and they spent the first 3 months creating the first DLC to the game (EC). Also you can't simply expect them to decide to create a patch and then by magic the thing is ready to launch in the next day, that is not realistic.

Bio keeps harping about future stories. Perhaps, as some up posters have said, the case can be made to EA to add a SP DLC down the line, for another 40-60 bucks.
Story DLC will be free and you can play all story content solo, so not sure where you want to go here. I tried playing the freeplay solo and it was bloody hard to do. It's not solo-friendly at all.

I'm sure has already been stated to death but the single player story invests me into the world. I've never been opposed to MP but few have any substantive story that compels me to delve deeper...which is why I remain a 95% SP only player. Having a solid SP story is a good way to entice traditionals to try out the MP side...and it serves as a good training ground to get comfortable with the gameplay mechanics (it's no fun jumping into an online game having no clue what you're doing and then get your ass handed to you). Anthem has the potential to change some minds but it hinges on delivering solid story. The more "wow" moments they can craft the more that will come over.

Apart from learning game mechnics, such as how to prime and detonate and enemies weak spots, I had no trouble completing Mathias quests alone. The same also applied to freeplay events, I was even able to defeat that legendary titan alone once. Bioware didn't make Anthem a game that is impossible to complete alone apart from the stronghold.

But all the EA hatecrowd hears is: "omg what a great coverup, this isn't true, they have to do this because of EA mtx blah blah."
Even if Anthem is successful, they continue to give free updates, and never charge for anything but cosmetics, STILL you will get the same comments that bioware doesn't want to make Anthem and are working forced slave labor by EA. If you actually think about it, it just doesn't make sense. You can't motivate hundreds of people to work towards a good product against their wil or vision. It just doesn't work that way. Everyone that works on a project needs to have a common goal and vision. Otherwise the end product will suffer.

Same. Solo you have to fight differently (i.e. rethink your build) than with other people, but it's perfectly possible. Also, I think normal is a good solo difficulty. Hard doesn't give that much extra bonuses compared to normal that it's worth it.

Bioware have iterated time and again that this is the type of game they WANTED to make (and what their Original root is). This: BioWare believes that “Anthem really represents that next evolutionary step” for the studioQuote: "What stands out above all else is that this is BioWare’s vision and every facet of its experience is being brought to bear, not so that it can keep making the games of the past, but so that it can lead the charge into a new future. Anthem is different from what has come before, but it carries with it the core values of BioWare."
And another: "This in turn, according to Warner, was born from how the game itself was originally conceived, as a small group within BioWare began to concept the new IP after wrapping work on Mass Effect 3. “Broadly thinking about it, we knew we wanted to do something that’s open world, we knew we wanted to do something that was more social, and so as we started thinking of ideas, we let that be our guiding principle, and arrived at this interest in this,” he explains. “We knew that we wanted to create a world environment that was proportionally very large, compared to humans. And we started thinking about how are we gonna traverse it, and what kind of tools we were gonna give to players. It was a really natural kind of thing, ‘man, we should allow players to fly’. So our team put together a really quick prototype, and as soon as you tried it, you were like, ‘Oh, yeah, this is fun.’ Then it was just refinement, endless refinement and iteration to get it to just feel so good.”"

Emily (aka Domino) Taylor pentapodIn case you're curious, I took 800 of the 1,800+ replies (because limited time in the day!) and categorized the responses. Overwhelmingly, most folks who prefer to play solo, do so because of other players. A sad statement about online toxicity that games need to better address.
