Why would you use anything other than magazine/barrel unless you need power or melee amps? Ditch the piercing mod, it’s not needed. And the Talon’s just not that great for priming combos, it’s for killing stuff. Especially bitch-ass mooks. It’s also a great placeholder for those pistol power/melee amps. It’s pretty tits on the human Soldier, two Talon mags in a row can shred a sub-boss. Also any Infiltrator. Some of the Engineers can be handy with it if they already have good anti-armour in the kit, too, like the QFE. The Talon has that bonus damage to shields, right? Only it’s also good against everything else too, unlike the Acolyte. As I said earlier it’s also a good placeholder for power/melee mods. A character like the Cabal makes good use of it. You could use it on the Slayer as well but in this one rare situation, the Acolyte is kinda better for him. The Acolyte would also be good on the Cabal but not as useful as the Talon, y’see. I’ll shut up now.

yeah, the optimal build for slayer is alquins'one in my book. but power mag and or piercing mod shouldn't be far behind.
as far as i know, talon is a great primer, very reliable if most pellet hits, but i you loose a lot of those on a bended gal...
